true, i suppose it could just be they used maxwell as a basis for jacob, there is no reason they couldn't have...
but jacob doesnt like technology (locke has to turn of his flashlight...) and maxwell was a man of science, so it doesnt match. but it could be, that maxwell changed his opinion about science, as he saw how the world was changed by it.

Personally I think their choice of the propmaster was their way of telling us he was used as a prop, a placeholder. I don't think he's actually playing Jacob or will have further airtime. I suspect Jacob's someone we know but they couldn't risk using that actor at that time, knowing the frames would be dissected. But I could be wrong, definately!
