Default Spambots: Has it come to this?

These spambots are getting really annoying, and at this stage, I think the only solution is to close registration. I haven't seen many new regular users for a while, but I'm sure there are some in the MF. We won't see a huge increase in real users anymore now that Lost has finished. It has its cons, but how do mods feel about closing registration?

    You shouldn't have done that...

Here is the system used on a Golden Age of Cartoons forum I lurk on...

As of October 6, 2008 we have had to suspend the new user registrations link due to an onslaught of spammers.

If you are a new user (ie - NOT a spammer) who wishes to join the GAC Forums, please send an e-mail to the following address:

    gacforums ----AT---- gmail.comNOSPAM

(Remove the spaces, NOSPAM and other nonsense, of course)

Be sure to include the following information:

1.) What you'd like your user name (screen name) to be on the forums.

    2.) Your e-mail address.

3.) A sentence or two about why you'd like to post here (or at least a sign you are an actual human).

4.) Please be aware: you must be 13 years old or older to join this forum.

I will personally set up your account and send a reply when it is ready. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Perhaps a system like this would be helpful, and not prevent legitimate forumers from registering.

You have told him that you are not interested but he does not seem to have got the message. Perhaps you need to tell him clearly and unequivocally that you don't know him and do not want to get to know him. Then just ignore him.

You said that you are not interested but does not seem to have gotten the message. Perhaps you need to say clearly and unequivocally that they do not know and do not want to know. Then just ignore it.
