It is obvious that the writers were just making stuff up as the show progressed. The finale should have been an opportunity to answer (or at least try to) some of the show's biggest mysteries.
The meaning and origin of the numbers, magic island, smoke monsters, people that could talk to the dead, the "importance" (people actually died cause of them) of Walt, Aaron, and Richard, mind washing rooms, the "others," the other "others," The Dharma Initiative, animal experiments, the ridiculous notion of imputing "the numbers" or the island explodes (why would someone rig something like that?), the time travel paradoxes, Widmore's intentions after he came back to the island, Jacob's plan, magic lighthouses that can see throughout the world, the "light", etc... just to name a few.
This show is ridiculously stupid as it is, and one would think they had enough writers, money, time, resources to write something satisfying to the fans, seems like we have more common sense, memory, and cognitive ability than their whole writing staff.
I could write a whole article on every single one of my before mentioned points, but let's start with the most recent ones.
It made no sense whatsoever that after the hydrogen bomb explosion they were "teleported" back to the future (silly, I know) than rather changing the time-line as we previously thought those side-flashes were. As stupid as it sounds, the side-flashes would have made more sense as an alternative universe than their so called purgatory where their souls could meet again.
Then what the hell happened after the explosion? If we assume that everything that happened on the island was real and we stick to the assumption (which they made) that the side-flashes were just a place that they created (don't ask me how) so they could meet again after death. Then would it make sense they would have DIED after a HYDROGEN BOMB detonated on them?! So the stuff we saw on the island in the final season was what? It makes NO SENSE whatsoever. If you argued that they were teleported unharmed because of the explosion, then why didn't Juliet joined them? Is it that time traveling paradox shifting explosions only happen if you're above ground?
Edit: After finally getting some reasonable postings it's been called to my attention that Juliet did survive the teleport. I had forgotten about that, but doesn't explain why she said "it worked." Again back to the original statement that the whole alternate world scenario would have made more sense than this purgatoryesque situation.
Bah, even Back to the Future handles time traveling paradoxes better, sad.
And why is it that Shannon (some piece on the island) turned out to be Sayid's true love instead of Nadia HIS WIFE and childhood friend?
Why was Walt so important? FFS, they spent a whole season focusing on this kid and suddenly forgot about him, "lost" forever in the projects. And to a lesser extent Aaron, on the whole "no children" can be born on the island so they're special. As it turns out apparently not so much.
I really don't care about closure on things such as "Did they have a good life after leaving the island?" Who married/lived with whom, who loved who, and so on. What I wanted answered were basic plot questions that they chose to ignore and sweep under the rug. For shame, that's some lazy, sloppy work. I am horribly disappointed, they made an emotional ending rather than one that made sense to even the dumbest of you people that for some reason liked a sappy, nonsensical ending rather than something that answer the shows main plot points.
For shame on all of you that liked this ridiculous tearjerker ending.
