Default Type O Negative singer dead at 48

Not sure if anyone in lost land likes Type O Negative but,Lead singer Peter Steele died late last night early this morning so far all I can find is it was heart failure not much more info than that.I was never a big Type O fan but they had a few songs I liked and 48 is too young for anyone to die in my opinion so thoughts and prayers and all that other stuff.

There have been a lot of musicians who died this year, but 48 is enough to live a full life. Look at Jay Reatard for example.

I just found out. It's some shit. I used to listen to them all the time in high school, went to a show or two. I'm pretty sure that's how I got together with a long time girlfriend.

    Later days, Pete.

48 is long enough? You must be very young to say that. 48 is the prime of your life, not nearly a full life.

Please feel free to read my blog about me getting LOST in Hawaii.

I was an avid fan in high school, I had gotten into Bloody Kisses just a little before October Rust had come out.

Pete’s contribution is a one of a kind, well at least this side of Glen Danzig. Aside from his black-hole voice and lyrics that “go there”, his bass playing had a feel unto itself. Nothing challenging, but very melodic and when it was time to have a tempo change, the bass riffs drove it home under roaring vocals. Lots of neat tempo changes with little synth lines to tie harmonies together. They could make a 10 minute song that was worth listening to again.

I think what I can still appreciate them most was the total package they put into the album. Looking back, they had a shtick about their persona…but they knew it and delivered every time.
And they had cool little liner quotes like:

Functionless art is simply tolerated vandalism…we are the vandals.

I still consider the first part of that quote when thinking about what “art” is.

The schtick was hilarious. If they were from anywhere else but New York it probably wouldn't have worked.

Come to think about it, a lot of the low end guitar riffs I do are based on TON/Steele bass licks. Subliminal theft/inspiration, I guess.

Ever listen to Carnivore? They were pretty cool.

Nice There was a smooth rolling bass sound there, like it was one fluid sound. Christian Woman, Bloody Kisses, and Black No. 1 come to mind as some highlights.

Oh, yea---I remember trying to seek out an album of theirs, I don't think I was able to track much down at the time. ...back in those days, the internet was still in the womb.

For some reason, I thought Roadrunner had bought up the Carnivore tapes and re-released them. I could be wrong.

    ...or was it Obituary?

Maybe it's not a full life, but it's certainly better than 29.
