Alright, noone liked my idea it was Christian's shoes and all you needed to do was steal them and Smokie will lose his ability to take on Locke's form...

I will add I did finally see the real John Locke was wearing Christian's shoes when he was finally buried. I had been looking to see that for a few episodes, and it was only shown when he was lying in the ground. But also the last thing I saw going into that bag was the shoes that the JLokie was wearing when he "materialized" into Locke's form. He had his shoes off and had pushed them hard down into the bag. And to repeat, that's the last thing I saw go in; and never noticed anything come-out either.

... So Locke was buried with the real pair of Christian's shoes ... Does that mean/mandate the replicas JLokie took off soon after materializing is devoid of magic pixiedust?

And if it's not the shoes, then WTF is in that bag now?
AND WHY IS HE ALWAYS WALKING AROUND A BLACK BACKPACK?
And why does noone else find that he always has that black backpack odd?

Maybe it's kind of like in the movie, "The Matrix". They say that when they enter the matrix, they are a projection of how one see's themselves. Maybe John Locke had seen himself as how he was on the island, with the same clothes and backpack on. Maybe that's why Smokie is appearing like that. It would also make sense that Smoke would use that same projection because that is what everyone else on the island is used to him looking like, anyway.

I'm sure someone can explain this better, this is just the first thing that popped into my head when reading this post.

He's in smoke form traveling around, then goes into human form again in the jungle. He picks up his trademark John Locke machete/knife implying he can't carry it when he's a pillar of smoke, but appears to have kept the backpack with him as said pillar of smoke. I found that weird.

Good observations. I was watching Smoke Monster [former Locke] climb down the ladder to the cave with a back pack, You'd think it would have left it on the ground above. Where did he get it in the first place?

The shoes. The real Locke had the shoes on when he was buried, so that's that.
