I don't think it's a good idea really, just screams of elitism to me.

I don't think so. It's not saying "New members don't have good ideas" it's say "new members have to become a part of the community and learn the rules before they can present their possibly very good ideas".

The problem with using post counts is that quantity does not equal quality. This is my second user name since season one, having forgot the password and changed email addresses....but neither account had a high post count, and I'm not sure I ever started a thread. There has never been a need, because there are 20 or more relating to any given topic on any given day.

A huge problem on this forum (and not tolerated on a couple other forums I frequent) is that old or new posters can create threads at will, and they DO. I've really never seen this issue be such a problem before, and I sympathize with the overwhelming task it must be to moderate such a forum that has new members flocking to it daily. Other forums (admittedly not nearly as popular as this one) just delete those offending threads with no explanation. They just disappear, and the majority gets the rules and the reasoning behind it. The sheer magnitude of trying to keep up with it on this board would be a full time job for a few people, twenty-four hours a day.

Since that's obviously not feasible, maybe limit the number of threads a person can open per day?

I wouldn't expect many new members to see it that way. You can see why I think it'd be elitist though, right?

That's actually a very good point. There are many people with low post counts that have really good points to make. Just because you have over a certain amount of posts does not make you really qualified to have the privelge to be able to make threads. It should really be the opposite, IMO.

But how can you become part of a community when you're being excluded from it?

Im sorry, but when you have duplicate threads being created practically every 10 minutes. And new members posting spoilers as theories or just flat out theories because they don't know the rules. Deserves restrictions. Why should we( And by we i mean current existing members) suffer because new users dont know the rules? I mean has history taught us nothing?

Then those members should be banned. Remember, it's just as easy to be spoiled in a post then a thread. If a thread containing a spoiler is created, it may be pretty obvious that a spoiler is in it. If you're reading through a thread, you can all of a sudden come across a spoiler in a post. I've had both done to me unfortuantely, but think the later of the two is much worse.

So new members that dont know the rules should instantly be banned? Thats really not fair to them. As much as i hate to say it its the truth. I would think new users would rather have restrictions and possibly a better chance at learning the rules and why there is restrictions in the first place. Instead of the alternative.

If a new user posts a major spoiler, then yes they will be banned...either temp or perma depending how major it is. But if someone drops a minor one (casting, episode title, etc) then we'd likely just warn them if its a first offense and innocent mistake.

The bottom line is that before you post, you should read the rules and spoiler policy.

On one hand, I completely agree that new users have every right to post and I respect and welcome their ideas. On the other, it is most frustrating trying to moderate the forum in the hours after an episode airs when several dozen new (AND VETERAN) users think every thought they have deserves its own thread. Post count restrictions will help with that, but it's not the only answer.
