Knowing what we know now, I love the irony of this scene/dialogue between Locke & Sawyer, considering the answer to John’s question regarding where Sawyer got his name…(Dialogue from Lostpedia transcripts)Plus, we get the first mention of Geronimo Jackson
LOCKE: No, your name. Why'd you pick Sawyer?
SAWYER: What do you mean, pick?
LOCKE: After the census Hurley gave me the flight manifest. Your name is James, right? James Ford.
SAWYER: What's it to you?
LOCKE: Just an interesting name to choose, is all. Who'd you get it from?![]()
LOL, stupid Kate
awww ... good ol' oldschool Others, creepy, totally terrifying people, who don't seem to care too much whether the LOSTies live of die. Tom's little speech was pretty great
it was what started my disklike for the LOSTies and my appreciation for the Others: he was pretty damn right ... it is THEIR Island
also, I really liked how James was about to go into one of those lame "if you tocuh a hair on her head" rants and Tom just shut him up out of nowhere
wow! what a surprise, who would have thought that kate would f things up!? hahaha
but seriously, i feel bad for her in this episode...it really made me understand what she was going through on the island...she has possibly the two best looking guys in the universe in love with her....its a hard knock life.
ok but this episode actually kind of bored me. i liked the flashbacks better than the on island stuff....because i somehow feel invested in jack/sarah. i think sarah is an idiot... i realize jack is not the best husband, but he saved her from a life of being paralyzed, hes a hot doctor, and when he comes home after a horrible surgery gone wrong, he rolls up his sleeves and washes the dishes with her.... and admits his wrong doings, which i dont really think was that bad...i blame gabriella for 98% of it.
christians advice always seems so sound and logical. i think he would make a good politician...hes so easy to believe... when hes telling jack not to cross the line, and jack says hes one to talk, is he implying that christian is a cheater, or that in general he doesnt know when to stop.....ie. drinking..?
on island, i really love the scene with charlie and hurley chilling in the hatch living room listening to records and talking about girls...then...awkward...the guy whos girlfriend just died walks in.... but this scene seems so normal, which is why i love it. hurley thinks he has a chance with libby, charlie wonders if claire misses him....its cute.
"you know....everybody..." haha
i also loved to get more information on the others...even if it is sort of misleading...
I love the forshadowing there. I know by this point, some fans were already suspecting that Locke's dad was the real Sawyer.
I also find Sarah to be cruel in this episode. 99.99% of guys would have never told their wives that they kissed someone else, especially right after it happens. I realize there's some background to this episode (Jack working too much) that we really didn't get to see, but I still think Sarah's in the wrong. Marriage is a commitment. Jack was willing to try to fix things. Sarah wasn't.
I always found this episode to be a bit... meh... It was less so this time around, but still not one of my favourites. That's not to say it didn't have its moments, though. Tom's speech to Jack will always be one of the best scenes in the show, and the Charlie/Hurley/Sayid bit in the hatch was so funny. I love how blunt depressed-Sayid is, "this music is quite depressing."
As for the flashbacks, always hated them. I don't know if it's just because I don't like Gabriella at all, probably that and the fact that Jack is a total idiot and ignores Christians multiple warnings. I agree with the people that say Sarah is in the wrong though. If she loved Jack, she would have tried to fix things. I guess she definitely did marry him just because he fixed her.
Two things from this episode are a big part of why I love this show.
For one, the way they present Kate following the party.
We see Jack tell her she has to man the button, then we see her talk to Hurley, who we later see manning the button. And then when Hurley describes the "everybody" that went he just adds in the Kate and we're thinking, "wtf she didn't go." and then we get the "curiosity" scene with Tom. So cool.
And two, Jack's divorce.
Of course we all know he gets divorced so it seems so obvious that Gabriella is gonna be the home-wrecker, and you begin to not like Jack because you presume he was the one that ruined his marriage. But then Jack is his usual classy self and comes clean to Sarah only to realize she was the one who went too far. I don't see how you can't feel sorry for Jack.
I also loved how Sayid is so depressed that he's no 'everybody' anymore. xD
The boys talkin' 'bout their ladies was great too.

all in all I found this episode pretty boring. Except for the scene with the others of course. I loved it that they captured Kate; showed her what she gets for being so stubborn. I also think its great how Kate keeps following Jack around trying to get his forgiveness.
I haven't rewatched these episodes since their initial airing. I'm quite pleased that this experience has been so entertaining and informative!
I have one question, do we find out who Sarah left Jack for? I remember there was a divorce flashback at some point...but I don't want to jump around in the rewatch order. The thought went through my mind that during the episode when Sawyer was incoherent and asking "Where is she?...I love her" that we (Jack) assume he is talking about Kate. Jack gets all pissy after this and makes his comment to Sawyer to go back and see if he hurt Kate's feelings and that he knows that Sawyer "loves her". Wouldn't it be a trip if Sawyer was the 'other man' in the Jack/Sarah divorce? It's the kind of twist I've come to expect from lost, dangle a clue, show a flashback, misdirection... of course I could be 100% wrong if they did establish Sarah left Jack for someone else. Still...interesting thought.
They never say for sure, but the end of 'A Tale of Two Cities' shows her getting into a car with some dude (who we've never seen before or since) and it is strongly implies that he's the one, but the Sawyer connection would be pretty crazy (and very LOST) !
