Not a huge fan of this episode. I find the flashbacks of Kate to be a little... boring, and the on-island stuff to be a set-up for the finale, which I think makes up for it.

This part really stuck out to me..

When Walt & Locke are in the caves. When Locke grabs Walt's arm, Walt suddenly stops, telling John not to “open that thing,”.

Is Locke Jacob?...... touching Walt made him special and from then on we start seeing Walt appear in places on the island.. interesting...

And then after that, Walt suddenly wanted to go on the raft? Why was he so adamant that the hatch not be opened? Is Walt on the side of the island? Is he on the side of Jacob or on the side of the guy in black? But Walt couldn't feel the danger of being kidnapped?

I liked this episode... Kate's flashbacks were sad but I liked her with the best friend. It was nice to see Walt telling the truth and Michael be willing to stay on the island for him.

With regards to the flashback, one thing that always has annoyed me is how Tom refused to get out of the car. Was he really that devoted to Kate? Or did he really think by sitting in the car she would just give up? He died for a stupid reason and that bugs me.

While watching this episode I started thinking about the hatch alot. The hatch is such a huge paradox, and is the central driving force behind everything that has happened. Follow this if you can...If the losties never found the hatch, they would never have opened it, therefore the failsafe never would have been turned, therefore the island would not have become visible to widmore, therefore daniel faraday and the freighter would not have arrived on the island, therefore faraday never would have traveled back to the 1970's, therefore he never would be able to convince jack to detonate the bomb. But the kicker is that the plane never would have crashed if they had not set of the bomb, because (if you beleive the bomb was the incident, as I do) the bomb caused the button to have to be pushed, and when desmond failed to push the button, the plane crash resulted, thus setting in motion the events that led to the plane crash in the first place. Wow.

But that's why they HAVE to find the hatch. The course correction idea demands it.

It's funny how upset Kate looks at the prospect of being famous, only to become a celebrity as a member of the O6.

They really better revisit Walt in some capacity, even if he's not onscreen. It's hard to understand why the writers would have him seem so special and then just dismiss him as "not what we were looking for."

That Walt thing was creepy. He probably had one of his "dreams" warning him about the implosion or something else. I really do hope he's in the final season... if he was a regular, or even in a little arc with an episode devoted to him, that would be awesome. I hope "Life and Death of JB" wasn't the last of him

Kate's flashbacks were heartbreaking here. It's awful when her mom starts yelling for help... and how Tom dies. I completely forgot that Sun was behind the water thing so that was a shocker...again, haha.

Even though nothing happens on the island front, I still think it's a good character episode, and sets up the finale nicely.

Edit: Oh yeah, and what's up with the letter at the beginning? Was it ever explained, or are we just meant to assume it's something about her mom having cancer?

Well all of the "discretion" business between John and Jack set up there season 2 relationship issues nicely.

Not a huge fan of this episode, I never really bought the way Sawyer treated the way Kate at the end of this episode, but whatever, I don't really understand anything Sawyer does.
