I love the conversation between Jack and Locke in this episode. The beginnings of a complicated relationship that starts here with a mutual respect for one another and slowly evolves into a rivalry, then resentment and eventually hatred (Jack puts a gun to Locke's head and pulls the trigger) before Locke dies and Jack falls deep into depression because of it and then finally takes Locke's place as the man of faith. It all begins in the jungle when they sit down together here in this episode.

I agree, it has more significance now. This was the first time John Locke tries to explain the island to Jack. I think its safe to say at this point Locke knows something about the island. I wonder if Locke knew what his "destiny" was..all this time.

Throughout the episode, I noticed that all of these people were wearing "white" shirts..

    John
    Jack
    Kate
    Sayid
    Hurley
    Jin/Sun(light colored shirts)

Sawyer and Clarie where wearing "black" shirts..

he's not really going after Jack, he going to find water
That scene also made me "turn my head sideways"..

Kind of like Locke knows where the Temple is....hmm..or like he has done this before..the question is..

    Dark Locke or real Locke?

I agree that the convo between Jack and Locke gets the ball rolling on the epic conflict. Given that Jack was dealing with seeing undead Christian walking around on the island, having to listen to Locke who had the creepy cornered before Ben arrived, might have been more than a bit irksome given Locke's smarmy attitude and Jack's sensitivity to appearing to be inadequate.

The ep was full of scary moments, like undead Christian and the hand coming over the cliff. The first time I saw that, I had to pause my iPod. LOL.

In some other details that slipped notice earlier.

The cave might be the source of Danielle's dolls she used to set her traps. I always wondered where she got those things. She didn't look like the type to sit around make dolls.

I like how the story starts out with Jack trying to save someone and he can't. In the flashback, it's another kid at school and on the island it's one of the crash survivors, Joanna.

Also, it appears Jack's mom knew about Christian's other life. How else would she knew he ran off to Australia.

And in the whole idea of "Christian," in effect, showing Jack a source of water is another instance of Jack getting a key assist from his father and not acknowledging it to anyone.

And this is the ep where the survivors begin to transition from waiting for rescue to settling in.

    Locke is not Esau yet!

Maybe you people forgot, but he crashes lands on an island, he is miraculously healed of his paralysis. Of course he's gonna think anything unexplainable on the island is the most beautiful thing he has ever seen.

I still wanna know the story behind the dolls. It's the biggest unimportant mystery in my opinion.

Default Two things about the Rabbit

I believe Locke was Locke until S5. But after viewing this episode, I also believe the Smoke Monster was much more active in helping Locke than I first thought. He was helping and leading him.

    I also have two questions:
    1. Who was the girl in the ocean? Will we ever find out?
    2. What is the significance of the title, "White Rabbit?"

Finally, it makes sense to me that if Christian is also Anti-Jacob (hence the strange sounds...), he is attempting to sway Jack now that he has enlisted Locke. Finally, he offers him an olive branch by leading him to water.

We know her name, Joanna Miller; other than that, I don't think we'll find out anything else about her.

Jack sees his father, which could be a dream, much like the main character in Alice in Wonderland sees a white rabbit. Both Jack and Alice follow their "rabbits."

This below and Kate's line in the same episode:

KATE: Her name was Joanna, she wasn't supposed to be on the plane. She was scuba diving off the barrier reef and got an ear infection so the doctor grounded her for two days. She bumped her flight. That's how she ended up with us.

It is fascinating. The only thing I could surmise that it looked like a shipment of dolls in a case of some sort, and I had the sense it was from a previous flight or shipped by sea.

You guys make a good point that suddenly Locke seems a lot more enlightened.

I wonder if he a) knew exactly where Jack was going to be, b) used his skills to track Jack and was never really looking for water, c) knew Jack would find the water if he followed Christian...
