    Default KINGS (on NBC)

IF anyone is unfamiliar with the show, it's basically about a modern-day monarchy, which looks like they've set it in an alternate universe of New York City. The show revolves around the Benjamin family, headed by King Silas (Ian McShane). When young soldier David Shepherd (played by Eragon's Chris Egan) saves the king's son, Jack (Sebastian Stan) during a deadly war between the two kingdoms of Gilboa (King Silas' kingdom) and Gath, he is thrust into the world of royalty, in which politics is the new game and conspiracy is the choice method of going about things.

The show is like a cross between Rome, The West Wing, The Tudors, and Band of Brothers. Created by Michael Green (who was a producer on Heroes), the show's pilot was directed by Francis Lawrence, who directed movies like Constantine and I Am Legend, so the show has a really unique, cinematic visual style.

Anyone a fan of this show? With only four episodes in, this is by far the most exciting show I've seen in a while, and I'm so happy that Ian McShane is back. We all know how awesome he was in Deadwood, and in Kings he is just incredible as King Silas. I also think that this show has a lot of potential. I'm hoping that it picks up in viewership so that it gets renewed for another season. Although of course, considering it's only been on the air for about a month, it's really too early to tell, but what with Yahoo! posting news that there's a possibility the show might be cancelled, one can only hope, you know?

Here are some pictures from the show:

I had it written up as a cheesy show by the looks of the ads. I will check it out on your recommendation.

I watched a little, and it did seem like a decent show. By what I saw, it seems like there's a slight mystical/don't-mistake-coincidence-for-fate thing going on which does come off slightly cheesy, but moving also. And as much as they can help it, the show still seems it is set in America, in NYC, with Americans being American. The made-up names are also kind of goofy to me. All in all, it does have potential.

I've been taping them regularly, but I have yet to actually sit down and watch them. It should also be noted that this is basically a modern retelling of the biblical story of David and Saul.

    Same with me!

I have been tivo-ing them and I'm too lazy to cancel the series. I might give it a chance, but for now, I'm terribly confused. Unlike Lost, the show has a large amount of small talk, smalltalk that doesn't contribute to the plot. Lost is direct, which is why I love it so much.

I watch the show, sorta, cause Simpsons is on at the same time. I think its good, but remember its made by Tim Kring, the guy from Heroes. Probably only has one decent season in it any way.

    Legen... wait for it

Actually, it's done by Michael Green, one of the co-executive producers of HEROES, and he only did 3 eps. of that show. Kring doesn't have anything to do with KINGS.

Oh, believe me, I actually thought it was cheesy to begin with. Especially after I saw that the guy who starred in Eragon plays one of the main characters [read: Eragon is a horrible movie]. But it's really good!

No, I don't think it dwells very much on the mystical. It's basically applying religious philosophy to their government, which is essentially what old monarchies did - there was no separation of church and state. It's a good sort of hypothetical situation that you can think about if the United States never did separate Church and State.

It's on every Saturday night at 8pm on NBC. But Hulu usually has episodes up pretty quickly, so you can watch it there as well. And I believe the official NBC site has full episodes as well.

I disagree. There's no small talk at all. In fact, the pace has picked up pretty quickly; I feel like I've been watching for ages, even though it's only been 4 episodes. The thing about the show is that it's almost written like a Shakespearean play, and so the language is very formal, but the setting is modern. Think Baz Luhrmann's Romeo & Juliet; like a modern retelling of a Shakespearean tragedy like Julius Caesar, but keeping the old language.

Yeah, dig is right, it's not by Tim Kring. If it was, I would be terribly surprised, considering Kring has been a complete and utter failure on Heroes these past few seasons.
