Thread: Spoiler Theories: Those who can't be Amy's baby

Post Spoiler Theories: Those who can't be Amy's baby

    Ethan
    ----------------------
I have read theories that Amy's baby is Ethan and I have also read a post that says it has been confirmed. I would like to know how it has been confirmed? I find it hard to believe the baby can be Ethan. The reasons are as follows:

The baby was born in 1977 and in 2004 he would be around 27 years old. Ethan didn't look 27! He looked in his mid or late 30's. And also Ethan was a doctor. He couldn't have attended medical school on the Island unless he was sent away. At the moment there is no reason to believe the baby will be sent off the island. Another reason is that this baby is born to a member of the Dharma Initiative and not to the others. Ethan was a member of the others.

Edit: You might argue Ethan could have changed sides like Ben had. Like I said earlier, Ethan was a doctor. To become a doctor it would take around 22 years. Even if you assume Ethan had left the island at an early age as a member of the Dharma Initiative. To change sides, he should have been present before the Purge. The Purge itself took place in around 1992 and Ethan probably graduated in 1999 and must have returned or had been brought back to the Island in 2000 or 2001, give or take. So again this goes to show it's very unlikely Ethan is the baby.

    Jacob
    ----------------------
I have also read theories that the baby is Jacob. I again don't see how? Jacob clearly has a special status in the show and seems to be the ultimate thing. The island has been inhabited from a very long time (we know people were there in the 50's). Also not just status but his form seems to be unnatural too. So let's assume the island was inhabited in the 1950's and has been inhabited for over 50 years now. So it's unlikely Jacob would be born in the middle of this time period. That would make him a lot like Ben. And what we have learn't about Jacob so far tells us that Ben isn't even close to who or what Jacob is. So it's not possible it's Jacob either.

I thought I would share this in this thread itself instead of creating a new one. This is what I think about who the baby is. I think it's Boone.

I'm getting really sick of people saying Ethan doesn't look 27. The actor who played Karl was 25. If they had made Karl's character 25 instead of 16, people could argue, "but he doesn't look 25". That doesn't change the fact that he is 25 in real life. Ethan may not look 27, the actor playing him may not be 27, but Ethan is 27. Deal with it.

    Here's a character who really can't be Amy's baby:

    Karl
    ---------------
Ignoring the fact that Karl is dressed up to look like a cheeky teenager on the show, there is one piece of evidence that precludes him from being born in 1977- he said that when he and Alex were kids they used to name constellations together. That means both of them were children at the same time for some period of their lives, and having a 10 year age difference wouldn't make that possible (unless Alex was 8 years old and Karl was 18 when they did this stuff together...>_>).

I also agree with Naif that Ethan's appearance doesn't support his age if he's Amy's baby. Sloth, even if you mention real acting ages and the like, the fact of the matter is that actors on Lost are dressed up/made up to look the age they're supposed to be in those scenes. Karl's actor was dressed up to look like a teen even if he was really in his mid-20's; Ethan's character was made to look old before Charlie killed him. Also, Ethan was old enough to have had a wife who died from a pregnancy (this was shown in a mobisode) while he was with the survivors. It's a little hard to buy that he was born on the island, left it to become a surgeon, came back, and somewhere during that sequence got married and lost his wife and baby in childbirth. But hey, the possibility still exists.

What makes you think it could be Boone?

I have no evidence or spoiler evidence or anything...but I was thinking it would be really interesting if Jack was the kid. Maybe Christian Shepard was a friend Horace's, and when the battling began becoming crazy on the island, Horace gave Jack to Christian watch over. When Jack was old enough to learn the truth (around 15 in 1992) the Purge occurred and after a long, long, silence, Christian began to suspect something had happened to Horace, and so he decided to not tell Jack and just raise him as his own.

Problems with my theory: For the purposes of the story, this only works if the Shepard family line is unimportant to the mythology of the show, which is looking less and less likely.

Still, I think it'd be a real shocker. The one man who was trying harder than anyone to get off the island was actually born there. Locke would be soooo jealous.

Jack is too old to be the kid. Remember, Jack was a doctor for years prior to landing on the island. When he aw Desmond in 2000 or 2001 he was an experienced and talented doctor, but if he was born in 1977 he would have been 23 or 24 at this time. Just not possible.

I just don't think the baby is important, it was only there to show that she got pregnant and carried to term and survived in 1977, so somehow the island turned on pregnant women sometime after this point in time.

Boone seemed to be in his mid 20's. He had become a close friend of John and looked up to him. Also it is not known who his biological father was. His mother too could have been an adopted mother (Sabrina Carlyle). We don't know Amy's surname so it's possible she might be related to Sabrina Carlyle.

The age of the actor is irrelevant. What is important is how old he looks. If Ethan was 27, they would hire an actor who looked 27. Not someone who looked 35 or 40. Just like how the origin of the actor who portrays Sayed is irrelevant. Naveen Andrews is of Indian origin but was made to portray Sayed because he looks Iraqi/Arab or at least pulls it off.

Maybe Ethan is Richard's Picture of Dorian Gray, and for every year Richard doesn't age, Ethan ages two.
