Thread: Former voting poll

    Default Former voting poll

For this vote, I've decided to open up a totally new thread, as in addition to a January book, we should discuss the plan to halt the book club while Lost Season 5 airs.

The plan was always to run the LLL just until Season 5, with the possibility of picking it up again after the finale. However, some people have expressed interest in continuing even during the new season. So, I open up the floor to comments.

    Brief book explanations:
    1) A Brief History of Time - the Stephen Hawking book aims to make physics accessible to the layman, explaining major concepts. Referenced in Lost - Aldo read it, also on Ben's bookshelf.
    2) Catch-22 - A recurring option in our polls. The Joseph Heller book was one of the items from Naomi's helicopter. A satirical novel examining the stupidity of war.
    3) The Stand. A Stephen King work, referenced by the writers as a major influence on Lost. As a possible end novel, interesting to have started with King (Carrie) and also end with him.
    4) The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand. Read by Sawyer, this book is an interesting examination of one man standing on his principles and refusing to "sell out."
    5) Watchmen - by Alan Moore. What is there to say about Watchmen other than its surprise entry on the nominees list. There was demand for it, so here it is. A graphic novel indeed, but arguably the greatest ever written, and the only one to have appeared in TIME magazine's list of 100 greatest BOOKS of all time.

I voted Watchmen, always been on my "To Read" list.

As for the fate of the LLL, I say continue through Season 5, but perhaps expand the read time from one month to say two or one and a half.

I have voted for Catch 22 as i have been trying to read it for the last two months (not really getting in to it) and would like to get it done and out of the way.

I also started reading Catch 22 and couldn't get into it. I don't think I'd like it.
I voted for Watchmen as I've never read a graphic novel but I'd also like to read The Stand.

As for suspending the book club, I don't see any reason to if people still want to read. It's not like watching an episode of Lost each week uses up much spare time. Shouldn't we have a poll?

    Default don't suspend the reading!

I voted 4 watchmen just cause the others didn't really stand out to me
And I don't want to read catch 22

But don't suspend the reading!! I highly look 4ward to readin a certain book every month even if lost was still being aired on tv. So when s5 starts I hope the book club is still going on

I'll say Watchmen. I've already read it, but I'd love to discuss it.

The Doomsday Clock inches closer to twelve.

You might think I'm nuts for saying this, but the ending to Watchmen sucked. It was a good read, but very disappointing at the end. I've always wanted the Hawking book. It's pretty short too, no?

PS- I had to stop reading 3rd Policeman. It drove me crazy with it's drivel. Even my girl who is an avid reader, I made her read like 2-3 pages and she's like "OK I have to stop. This is horrible." To each his own, but I don't know if I can give it a second chance.

The Stand would also be good.
