Gluing Chairs equals Rehairing Violin Bows
Thirty years ago I was doing all the musical instrument repairs for 7 music stores in the Chicago area. In the instrument repair business re-hairing violin bows is the bread and butter, I used to do several every week. It seems that many of the young student violinists like to sword fight with their bows which creates a continuous stream of work for the repairmen. In the furniture repair business gluing chairs is the bread and butter. Chairs are submitted to the same level of abuse, people rock back on the legs, use them for ladders and all sorts of other unintended uses resulting in the need to re-glue the joints. Hardly a week goes by when I don’t glue at least one chair and usually several.
