My humble opinion;
The finale was extremely emotional and I was devastated when Jack came to the realisation in the ALT that he was dead. ANY remaining question can be answered if one applies logic.
By the way incase you don't get it : The island was their life. The ALT was purgatory that they were all waiting in until they all got there. Live together, Die Together.
