Sometimes I think people overreact when it comes to video games, shows, and movies. On one thread, someone was asking if people thought Lost was suitable for people under 14. Most said it was too intense and scary for people under that! I'm 12, and Lost is my favorite show. Halo 3 is my favorite game. Braveheart is my favorite movie. Catch-22 is my favorite book. Well, I guess I'm a bit different from other people my age because my Dad always took me to violent movies, and I was reading Lord of the Rings when I was 9, so I'm more mature than others. I don't mean to brag, but I've heard numerous times that I have the maturity of a 16 year old. Sorry for the long rant, but I think anyone who says Bioshock (which I've played) is too intense for 12 year olds should take a look at 12 year olds today. Or at least mature ones. Damn. (Yes, I can to curse.)

I got Bioshock the day it came out.

I'd been following the development of it for quite a while, and I must say, I wasn't let down in the slightest.

It's creepy and extremely tense at times. I've gotten both endings, and much preferred the good ending.

Whereas with Via Domus, I was following it from day one, got it the day it was released, and finished it later that night. [I also got Turok the same day, which was untouched til the day after, which was also finished that day]

As much as I loved having my very own little LOST adventure, I feel LOST pales in comparison to Bioshock.

Though it's not unlikely (obviously) it's still pretty uncommon that a twelve year old would be mentally developed enough to handle mature games and television/movies as well as books. I think a lot of it comes down to what your parents allow as well. This is also evident in your case if your dad took you to such movies. I always like to think that I was one of these people. I mean, I watched The X-Files when it first aired and I was four then. Now it's my favorite show. I always loved extremely mature things at a young age and I think it's helped a lot since now I don't have a warped view of things. Personally, I think early exposure can be a good thing. Most people don't. That's their decision.

And from my experience, I don't think most twelve year olds today should be playing BioShock. BioShock is one of the most mature games on the market. Of course, if I knew a twelve year old that I felt was mentally mature enough to handle and appreciate the game then I'd probably let them play it. Unfortunately, I don't know any like that. Not saying they don't exist, just that I haven't come across any in my experience.

I have a little advice as well. Obviously, you don't like the misconception of people thinking that a young person can't be mature. I can understand this. It's easy to get upset. But from your post I feel as if you're a bit defensive and flare up at something that people can't just know. It's not exactly common for someone so young to be so mentally mature. You have to exude this physically and emotionally. So my advice, don't get so upset and defensive. Instead if someone tells you you're young and you get upset don't let it show. Just calmly tell them that it's a misconception and that it is possible for someone of your age to be so mature. It'll definitely help convey the image that you are mature for your age. Please don't take this as an insult, I only mean it as constructive criticism.

And I have to question your maturity and taste if Halo 3 is your favorite game...

...just kidding of course.

I would completely agree with you, however there have just been some incidents with people I've met who think the way some might, so I just kinda overreact when a situation like that might occur.

lol, well, it's just Science fiction, and I normally am not a big fan of that, but it's got good gameplay (I've played better games since my last post too)

BioShock was really cool. It definetly seemed to be mature, but not for it's violent content, but for the story itself. There was a lot going on you didn't really have to pay attention to in that game, but if you took the time to appreciate the story, you really got treated to a great, complex story.

I'm a proud 360 owner, but I'd have to say I get bored with the games. Sure the graphics are good, and the games are challenging sometimes... but I'm a lost fan... and Lost fans are obviosly fans of being confused and perplexed by developing plotlines and multi-layered stories.

Bioshock gives you that.

If you want a REALLY Lost-esque game, and you havent played through puzzle games like Myst or Riven, or all the sequals... what are you waiting for?? Get on that train! The gameplay is deeply mental, the Darlton says it's an influence of Lost, and the story is great.

I'd also reccomend Half-Life 2.

PLEASE PLEASE reccomend other games if you know of any!

My little sister started watching LOST when she was nine. She's ten now and her friend Megan has been watching since season 2.

yeah Bioshock is one of the greats. Simply AMAZING atmosphere. Anyone should buy it.

As for other games to recommend. The Half-Life series. Call of Duty 4. Grand Theft Auto 4 was fantastic. Halo 3. All great.

I'm hoping DEAD SPACE turns out to be as equally surprising and enjoyable as BIOSHOCK proved to be.
