Bugs and Pests

[Clueless]

I apologize if this has already been observed.

Is it wierd that there are no signs of insect or pest life? I mean I would imagine a jungle would have all sorts of different types of giant bugs or spiders etc.

The only sign I've seen is when Sayid and Jack are exploring beneath the floor of the swan, you can see webs and junk, but I don't know if they are just cob webs or what.

All the other creatures seem to be oddly placed as well. Polar Bears are there, horses, boar, tree frogs make sense.

What I'm getting at is can this be evidence of an entirely artificial habitat or are bug problems or fears of just not interesting enough to write in a script?
