On Horizons

The episode opens to a man’s eye. The man is in a car. He pulls into someone’s driveway very quickly. The man is younger, probably in his mid-20s. He has brown curly hair and glasses. He runs up to the door of the house and knocks. A blond woman answers his knock.

YOUNG MAN: I think I found it again.

The woman rolls her eyes.

YOUNG MAN: No, no listen. Last night, I was researching the location again and I really think I found it, I mean, I’m really certain that this is whe—

YOUNG WOMAN: Listen, I’m married, and I’m pregnant. Can this wait a few years?

The man is angered by her lack of seriousness.

YOUNG MAN: Do you remember? Do you remember what you said when we were on the boat? You said that you may have just made the biggest mistake in your life, and you said you would do anything, anything to go ba—

YOUNG WOMAN: I have to go; he’s waiting for me…

She starts to close the door.

YOUNG MAN: No, wait…we need to go back, we need to go back!

As the woman closes the door, an older man with graying hair comes up and puts his arm around her.

OLDER MAN: Who was that, babe?

YOUNG WOMAN: It was him; he thinks he found it again…probably just another protruding reef…

They both laugh and walk into the other room. Outside, the young man has given up and runs back to his car. He drives home. At his house, he runs in and writes down some numbers. They look like coordinates, but it’s hard to tell. He gets a phone call and hurriedly answers it.

YOUNG MAN: Hello?

It is the same older man that was with the blond woman.

OLDER MAN (other side of line): It’s me. Do you think you’ve found it?

YOUNG MAN: I do. Would you like to meet?

OLDER MAN (other side of line): I would.

YOUNG MAN: See you there, then.

They both hang up. We see the older man smile as the young man quickly picks up some papers and stuffs them into a bag. As he runs out the door, a paper goes flying out of his bag and lands on the floor. There is a crude hand-drawn octagon with the word “DHARMA” in it.

ISLAND: Jack and the rest of the survivors are still at the radio tower. They cover Naomi’s body as Jack goes up towards Ben. Ben looks at him with anger.

BEN: Jack, I may be tied up, but you can still be stopped from leaving this island.

JACK: No Ben, I’m done being stopped. It’s time for us to go.

BEN: John can stop you. He knows more than you think he does, Jack.

Jack turns and walks quickly behind the radio tower in the direction that Locke walked away.

BEN: John! John, he’s coming!

Locke turns around as Jack tackles him. He punches him in the face and gets him on his stomach. Jack ties up his hands and drags him over to the tree. Locke is struggling to get loose.

KATE: Jack! Jack what are you doing!

Jack grabs some rope and ties Locke around the tree, right next to Ben.

JACK: Let’s go, we’re leaving.

ROSE: What, where are we going, don’t we need to wait for the heli—

JACK: We can meet them on the beach. They’re not going to land here; the mountains are too tall.

Two men pick up Naomi’s body as everyone walks away. Suddenly the phone starts to beep.

JACK: I’m here.

MINKOWSKI (other side of line): Jack? We’ve locked in your coordinates and we are north of your location. About 110 clicks from you now. So take your people and travel to the north most beach, we’ll be there on four tan boats.
Jack runs back and grabs Locke’s compass out of his pocket. He looks at the compass and points north to all the survivors. He then looks back down at the satellite phone.

FLASHBACK: The two men are now on a fairly small boat out in the open ocean.

OLDER MAN: Are you sure we’re going the right way?

YOUNG MAN: Absolutely. Hey, why don’t you get some rest and if I see anything I’ll let you know.

The older man nods and lies down to sleep. We see a brief POV from him as his eyes close. They open and it is light out. He leaves the cabin to see the young man sleeping on the wheel.

OLDER MAN: Hey, hey, wake up.

The young man wakes and looks quite surprised. He points and the older man turns his head to the front of the boat. They have interestingly run aground on a beach on a large island.

OLDER MAN: I would assume this is it.

YOUNG MAN: That would be a safe assumption.

OLDER MAN: You think we can find our old boat?

The men laugh and get out of the boat. As they round the corner of the beach, they see a large statue of a four-toed right foot. The left foot is crumbling and partially fallen into the water.

YOUNG MAN: Whoa, you think that’s theirs?

OLDER MAN: That’s my guess. Let’s go take a look at it.

YOUNG MAN: Wait, get down!

The young man points across the bay to a group of ragged-looking people that are swiftly walking over a large rock.

OLDER MAN: [whispering] who are they?

YOUNG MAN: [whispering] just the hostiles…

ISLAND: Back on the beach, Hurley is being called on the walkie by Jack. Jack tells them to go to the north most beach and meet them there.

HURLEY: Wait, dude, where’s north?

JACK (other side of line): Ask Juliet.

HURLEY: Got it, dude.

Hurley puts the walkie in his pocket.

HURLEY: Hey, dudes! Jack wants us to like meet him at some beach up north. [to Juliet] he told me to ask you where north was, ‘cause, you know, I’m not so good with directions, and stuff.

They start walking.

SAWYER: So what was Blackbeard’s deal?

JULIET: Who?

SAWYER: The bearded guy, the come-to-your-raft-and-steal-the-boy guy.

JULIET: Tom. He was here before men…

Juliet looks over at where they buried Tom and a tear comes from her eye.

In the woods, Kate is talking to Jack. She asks him why he still loves her even after she’s caused so much trouble for him.

JACK: Kate, you were the first one I really talked to here, here on the island. You’re all I’ve got. For me to not love you, to just forget about you because of Juliet, that would be foolish.

Kate smiles and everyone continues to walk as Jack looks down at the phone again.

FLASHBACK: We see Marvin Candle in the barracks with a small film crew. They are filming the DHARMA barracks orientation film. As he wraps filming, he walks over to the older man.

CANDLE: Well, I think this one is all set, I just have to head over to the Flame to make the video there.

OLDER MAN: Well, we have already found a pretty reliable worker to man the Flame station.

CANDLE: What if he gets injured, or worse, killed?

OLDER MAN: Oh, I really doubt that will happen…

The blond woman walks up to the older man.

OLDER MAN: Karen! How does everything look?

KAREN (YOUNG WOMAN): It really did turn out just as I had planned…

The young man is looking at them from afar with a look of disappointment and anger.

KAREN: I just hope we don’t get any trouble again…

Karen, Candle, and the older man laugh. Suddenly, they hear a strange pulse, followed by gunshots. They look worried and duck. However, Candle is shot in the upper left arm as blood pours out rapidly. He screams in pain and falls over. A mass amount of gunshots are heard and loud screams follow. Then, quiet. It seems DHARMA has killed some hostiles; apparently, DHARMA was quite prepared coming to the island. The film crew exits a house and finds the reels of film with bullet holes in them.

FILM MAN: Interesting. Uh, Mr. Candle?

Candle looks up in tremendous pain.

FILM MAN: I think we may need to do another take…

Candle groans.

ISLAND: At the radio tower, Ben and Locke are quietly slouching on the tree.

BEN: Well you’ve really done it now, John.

LOCKE: Excuse me?

BEN: You had the chance to shoot him, and you didn’t. You had the chance to keep people on this island, and you didn’t. You had the cha—

LOCKE: Shut up! Don’t you get it? I’m not doing this for you, or for your island. I’m doing it for them. I know that they are not supposed to get rescued. You know just as well as I do, Ben. So you might as well save your breath…

BEN: They won’t get rescued anyways…

LOCKE: What? What do you mean?

BEN: He took your compass. The man on the phone told him to go north and I don’t know if you’ve noticed John, but north on this island is a little different. They’ll be lucky if they even see the boats before they go out to sea again.

Locke reaches down towards the knife by his leg.

BEN: You can’t reach it. This is the fifth time I’ve told you, John.
LOCKE: Don’t tell me what I can’t do.

Locke, in pain, grabs the knife and cuts his rope free. He starts to walk away.

BEN: John!

Locke turns around.

LOCKE: You want me to untie you?

BEN: Well that would be the polite thing to do…

LOCKE: You shot me…

BEN: I’m sorry; I don’t really know what this has to do—

LOCKE: How could I trust you wouldn’t do it again?

Locke turns.

BEN: John, John where are you going!

LOCKE: [under his breath so Ben cannot hear] I’m going to find Richard.

BEN: John!

Locke walks away as Ben continues to yell.

Jack and the survivors continue walking through the woods. Claire begins to cry.

ROSE: Aww, what’s wrong honey?

CLAIRE: I can’t leave without him.

ROSE: You gotta have faith, dear.

CLAIRE: What if something happened to him, Rose?

ROSE: You know, for over a month, people tried to convince me that my husband was dead, but I knew he wasn’t. I knew that Bernard was alive. As long as you believe and pray, my dear, I’m sure Charlie will be fine.

Claire tries to smile.

SUN: Jack, have they said anything else?

Jack looks down at the satellite phone.

JACK: No, not yet.

SUN: I mean Jin.

JACK: Sun, Jin’s fine. I know you’re worried. They are going to meet us at the beach.

Jack smiles and Sun smiles back. Jack takes another look at the compass and then at the sat phone.

Opportunity Knocks

INT. BEDROOM

Early sunlight struggles to break through closed blinds, threatening to illuminate a dim bedroom. A body is hidden underneath bundled bed sheets. Several objects sit on a nightstand next to the bed: a bottle of pills (the label is illegible), a light, a phone; but the most notable object in the room, however, is a digital clock that reads 6:59.

And then 7:00.

Music softly wafts from the radio/clock. Just as quickly as it starts, a hand reaches out to shut it off. The body under the sheets stirs and lets out a moan, but quickly sits up on the edge of the bed. With back turned, we see a MAN in his 60s.

The MAN reaches for the bottle and shakes a pill onto his palm.

The phone rings. The MAN puts the pill in his mouth before reaching for the phone. He picks it up, but doesn’t speak. A male’s VOICE comes from the other end.

VOICE
It’s Minkowski. Just got off the phone with a Jack Shephard. Says he’s a survivor of Oceanic flight 815.

The MAN’S posture stiffens at this news.

MINKOWSKI (CONT’D)
The others are here and awaiting your orders.

A click indicates MINKOWSKI has hung up. The MAN places the phone back in its cradle, visibly inhales and looks toward the ceiling.

CUT.

EXT. RADIO TOWER - DAY

We watch LOCKE as he walks away from JACK and the group of survivors he was once a part of. As he rounds the radio tower station and out of view, cheers erupt from behind him. Visibly distraught, tormented, he stops and turns back.

LOCKE
Fools. They don’t know –

Frustration owns LOCKE’S face. He turns away from the cheers and briskly walks off into the jungle.

EXT. RADIO TOWER – DAY

JACK has just gotten off the satellite phone with MINKOWSKI. The plane survivors are cheering. Several people come to congratulate JACK.

SUN
Thank you, Jack.

JACK nods. SUN hugs JACK. A MAN comes up to JACK and shakes his hand. CLAIRE smiles at JACK. The look on his face tells us he is relieved, but another emotion has moved in. We know something is bothering him. KATE takes notice.

JACK turns away from celebrations and sees NAOMI lying prostrate on the ground, motionless. JACK walks over and kneels to check on her.

KATE walks up behind JACK.

KATE
Is she . . .

JACK
Yeah.

KATE
So, what now?

JACK stands and turns to KATE. He looks at her for a moment, before speaking.

JACK
Take this –

JACK puts the satellite phone in KATE’S hand.

and lead everyone back to the beach. Wait for word from the boat. Someone needs to bury her.

KATE
What? We can bury her at the –

JACK
(a little too forceful)
No.

KATE is taken aback.

JACK (CONT’D)
(softer now)
No.

Softer, as he tries to placate KATE’S curiosity. It doesn’t.

KATE
What’s this really about Jack? I would think saving 40 people might bring a smile to someone’s face. Even yours.

She attempts to disarm him with a smile, but JACK doesn’t respond. Instead, JACK is even more uncomfortable now, desperate to avoid KATE’S eyes.

She reaches for him.

KATE (CONT’D)
What’s going on with you?

JACK composes himself and looks her in the eye.

KATE (CONT’D)
Jack, what’re you going to do?

She searches his face for answers, for reason.

JACK
I have to go after him, Kate. I’m going after Locke.

CUT TO BLACK.

Eerie music as one word, ‘LOST,’ floats in from darkness.

EXT. JUNGLE – DAY

LOCKE rampages through the jungle, throwing branches and vines aside. Despite stumbling, he keeps moving forward. It’s evident he doesn’t know where he is going and suddenly realizes it. He stops for a moment – just a moment – to look around. In this instant, we get a good look at him.

His face is contorted in a knot of desperation, fear and budding fury. Not so much a man as an animal trapped in a corner.

Frantically, aimlessly, he blazes off further into the jungle.

EXT. FLIGHTLINE MOTEL – DAY (FLASHBACK)

LOCKE sits with his head against a steering wheel, staring at something in his hands, his face stained with tears. Off camera we hear a familiar flip-clop sound. The something is a ring box, the sound is John opening and closing the ring box.

LOCKE opens the box and stares at the ring for a while. Runs his fingers over it, losing himself in thoughts of what could have been had it not been for his –

The thought infuriates him and he flips the box closed again with a loud CLOP! He slams a fist into the steering wheel causing the horn to go off, surprising even himself. LOCKE buries his face in his hands and begins to weep silently.

LOCKE
I’m sorry . . . I’m sorry . . .

Outside, we see a woman has walked up to the truck. She taps on the window.

LOCKE looks up to see a woman staring at him through the window. We know her as CASSIDY.

LOCKE swiftly wipes the tears from his face and rolls down the window.

CASSIDY
Are – are you all right?

LOCKE’s attempt to put on a friendly smile instantly melts into sorrow.

LOCKE
No.

CASSIDY
Is there anyone – anything I can do?

LOCKE looks at her, numbness setting in, freezing the depressed features on his face.

LOCKE
No. Nothing.

EXT. RADIO TOWER – DAY (END FLASHBACK)

KATE hovers over JACK’S shoulder as JACK prepares his pack.

KATE
Jack, you can’t do this. These people, they need you.

JACK ignores her and continues packing. She walks around and kneels in front of JACK.

KATE (CONT’D)
Jack. I –

Now she has his attention. He looks at her.

KATE (CONT’D)
I want to – I want to help. But I can’t go with you. Not this time.

They both stand up.

JACK
I’ll be fine. Just make sure you get on that boat when it comes, whether I’m there or not.

Without giving her the opportunity to rebuke him, JACK walks off to address the group, which has gathered, apparently waiting for his instructions.

JACK
Well, we did it.

There are several shouts of joy and sporadic claps. JACK forces a smile.

JACK (CONT’D)
Kate is going to get you started on the way back to the beach. Someone needs to take care of –

JACK motions toward NAOMI, now covered.

JACK (CONT’D)
I’ll catch up as soon as I’m done.

The crowd disperses to prepare for the return journey to the beach. KATE and JACK come together.

JACK (CONT’D)
Keep an eye on him.

He motions toward BEN, still bound, being helped by ALEX and KARL.

JACK (CONT’D)
Hurley has the other walkie, in case you need me. I’ll make it back as soon as I can.

JACK turns to go.

KATE
Jack –

As if expecting this, JACK turns. KATE is busting to say something, but words fail her. JACK understands.

JACK
I will.

EXT. JUNGLE – DAY

LOCKE has stopped in a clearing. He is in a frenzy. He paces the jungle floor back and forth, talking to himself, gun in hand.

Suddenly, a few whispers can be heard, leaking from the trees and foliage. Yet, LOCKE doesn’t seem phased at all, but the pacing quickens.

More whispers now as LOCKE begins to bite his nails and run his hands over his head.

The whispers are ubiquitous now, and loud, but still unintelligible. LOCKE has come to a breaking point. He throws the gun into the forest furiously and throws his arms up.

He screams/pleads to the trees, as if speaking to the whispers.

LOCKE
I HEAR YOU! BUT WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO?!!

EXT. FLIGHTLINE MOTEL – DAY (FLASH)

LOCKE is still in his truck. CASSIDY has moved on. LOCKE is composed, but stoic now, blank. He takes one last look at the closed ring box and tosses it in the glove compartment.

He reaches into his jacket pocket for his keys, but comes out empty-handed. He tries his pant pocket – nothing. Exhausted, he sighs and looks up to the second floor of the motel – to his father’s vacated room.

INT. FLIGHTLINE MOTEL

LOCKE stands on the threshold of the motel room. LOCKE can see his keys on a table at the far end of the room. Slowly, with empty movements, he walks through the room to the table and lethargically picks up his keys.

As LOCKE walks toward the exit, his eye catches something lying on the smaller table that stops him in his tracks – the $200,000 COOPER left for retrieving the money.

LOCKE stares at the stacks of cash briefly before continuing out of the room. The money is left on the table.

EXT. JUNGLE – DAY (END FLASH)

LOCKE sits against a tree. His tantrum has passed, the whispers have subsided. The same detached countenance we saw in the truck now haunts his face as he stares off at nothing.

A slight breeze begins to pick up shaking the bushes, branches in LOCKE’S field of view. The breeze grows steadily stronger.

Leaves, dust, debris drift past the area LOCKE seems intent on winning a staring contest with. Nothing that tumbles by seems to interest LOCKE in the least, until –

The look on LOCKE’S face changes. Gone is the blank stare – erased by a look of intrigue, interest, perhaps some disbelief. His body straightens. The wind has carried something of importance and brought it here to LOCKE – another sign.

The unseen object propels him from his seated position. Hastily, yet cautiously, John makes his way to the object, bends down.

A small sheet of paper is entangled in some vines. LOCKE carefully plucks it from the leaves and looks at it. Surprise is now on LOCKE’S face as he reads/looks at the paper.

A refreshing air has breathed life back into LOCKE’S face. He crumples the paper in his hand, grits his teeth as if to say: Now I know what must be done.

CUT TO BLACK.

Do The Right Thing

Scene 1

The group at the radio tower are in a blissful shock about the impending rescue, they talk and hug among themselves. Kate speaks to Jack

Kate “So we really going home then Jack can you believe it?”

Jack Staring at Ben with malice
“Wait here Kate I need to talk to him”

Kate looks at Jack with familiar disappointment then stares out towards beach camp

Jack walks up to Ben tells Carl who is still hanging around to leave them alone.

Ben “Well Jack I hope your happy now, you’ve won Jack you’ve saved the day”

Jack “It’s not over yet Ben when I get of this Island I’m…

Ben I don’t think you understand Jack nobody will be getting of this Island alive! We all going to die right here as soon as your rescuers come for you, Locke knew but he didn’t have the courage to do what had to be done. I tried Jack but you had to stop me you had to ruin it for everyone.”

Jack Leans in close to Ben now getting angry but keeps voice low so as not to cause attention
“What are you talking about why should I even listen to you, your nothing but a liar…”

Ben “Because right now Jack, right now I have nothing left to lose apart from my life. I don’t want to die Jack and I’m guessing that neither do you or your people, so I’m offering my assistance I’m offering my help Jack.”

Jack Still leaning close eyeballing him now… he turns and walks away not wanting to hear what Bens got to say

Ben Waits till Jack as walked away a few meters then shouts to him
The group all go quiet so they can listen.
“Jack when they get here they will kill everyone, they can’t let survivors from flight 815 mysteriously show up now. The wreckage was already found weeks ago, your all dead to the world Jack and if you or any of you leave this island they will make sure you stay buried.

This causes commotion in the group people start talking to one another and seem worried Jack stares at Ben and walks back to him,

Scene 2
Flashback

Juliet in Otherville with Goodwin again, they are taking a stroll and chatting, Goodwin is explaining a bit of the history of the Island to her.
He explains that people have lived here for a long long time and that up until recently had no contact with the outside world

Scene 3

It’s the beach camp Sawyer Juliet; Hurley Sayid Jin & Bernard are moving the bodies of the others and stripping them of weapons. Sawyer walks over to the Dharma Bus where Hurley is shifting a body.

Sawyer Breaks out some beer left in the Dharma van and pops one open. Offers one to Hurley.
“Well Hugo you sure did pop up in the nick of time I guess I owe
You an apology”

Hurley Accepting Beer from Sawyer
“Na dude we cool, but man what you did to him……. (Pointing at Tom) That was cold man cold”

Sawyer “You and me both killed people today Hugo and I’m for one am sure not going to lose any sleep over one of them. Best I sees it was either them or us.”

Drinks beer quickly, and looks away from Hurley towards Sayid & Juliet

Camera pans out over Jin & Bernard who are moving the corpses to Sayid & Juliet, Sayid is sitting down checking the guns, Juliet walks over to him and talks.

Juliet “Sayid I need to talk to you”

Sayid “really and what reason do I have to listen to you Juliet”

Juliet “That women Naomi she’s not who she claims she is and If Desmond & Charlie have been successful in stopping the jamming then everyone on this Island will be in serious danger.”

Sayid “Why are you telling me this?”

Juliet “Because she wasn’t part of the plan Sayid she wasn’t supposed to arrive on the Island.”

Camera pans closer to Sayid & Juliet’s Faces

Sayid “Plan?”

Juliet “Ben sent me here to check up on the pregnant women in your camp, we wanted to know how many had conceived on the island.”

Sayid “I don’t understand how Naomi fits into this”

Juliet “That’s because you don’t understand this place Sayid. Have you not wondered why we are here on this Island what we are actually doing? Have you not thought about the hatch’s you keep discovering and why they were built? Have you not wondered why injuries seem to heal a lot faster than they should? What about the cloud of Black Smoke that makes a habit of killing your people? Sayid this place is special, special and well hidden and for as long as we have been here others have been searching for it.

Sayid “Right now I just want to get of this plac..”

Juliet “People are searching for this place Sayid they know this place exists and will stop at nothing to find it and exploit it, Naomi we think is here representing those people”

Sayid “Why should I believe they would be any worse than your people?”

Juliet “You don’t have to Sayid but believe me when I say in the eyes of the world your already dead, they found your plane and all the bodies sitting at the bottom of the ocean. How do you think this will be explained when 40 odd people all show up again? It won’t Sayid because THEY won’t let it happen your already dead and that’s the way they plan to keep it”

Scene ends suddenly

Scene 4
Flashback

Goodwin & Juliet again, this time in her house, Juliet asking more questions Goodwin saying he doesn’t really know the answers to them, What he does know is that they are not the only group interested in this place, and that certain groups will stop at nothing to get a foot hold on the Island.

Scene 5
Radio Tower

Kate Jack & Rose are talking about what Ben said, Ben is just behind still tied to the tree. Rose seems inclined to believe him, Kate seems very cautious now as well. Jack is adamant that Ben is making it up.

Jack “Listen this man is a manipulator we cant trust anything he as to say to us. He as lied to us on countless occasions, he as taken us, imprisoned us, murdered us, and now you want to listen to him just when rescue is coming, I’m not buying it he just doesn’t want us to leave.”

Kate “This don’t feel right Jack if Naomi was telling the truth about the plane being found. Who would create a story like that and why? Maybe we should hear him out?”

Jack “This could be our only chance of get..”

Rose “Jack ever since we arrived on this Island you’ve been so busy in keeping us alive and waiting for rescue that I don’t think you’ve considered just how special this place is. Now I know you’ve seen things on this Island we’ve all seen things we can’t explain, but Jack before I crashed on this Island I was dieing of Cancer, since I’ve been here I can’t feel the Cancer anymore Jack, I’m certain this place as healed me, now I know how hard this is to believe Jack but we all survived that Plane crash and even you have to agree that was impossible, so ask yourself what else is possible on this Island?”

Jacks lost for words Kate & Rose are staring at him waiting for his response. Ben talks from a distance.

Ben “Rose is right Jack this Island is special you all know it why are you so afraid to admit it? Most of you don’t even have a reason to leave this place anyway” (Staring all bugged eyed at Jack & Kate)

Kate “Do you know who they are? The people on the boat do you know who’s coming?”

Ben “Yes Kate I believe I do and when they get hear and find out what’s been going on they are not got going to be happy.”

Scene 6
Flashback

Juliet arguing with Ben, about wanting to leave the Island promising never to tell anyone about the place and that she doesn’t even know where it is. Ben quite calmly telling hr that she knows far too much and if she had never snooped around she could have gone home.

Scene 7
Beach

Sayid “So your saying that the day the Hatch exploded, the day the sky turned purple, the day you captured my people? The Island revealed itself to the world just for an instance? I find what you’re saying hard to believe how does an Island hide itself”

Juliet “I don’t know all I knew was it had something to do with the Electromagnetic build up in the Swan Station, Ben always told us to leave it that place alone, we had always left that station untouched until your people discovered it.”

Sayid stares at Juliet trying to decide if she is lying

Juliet “Look the bottom line is that others found this place on that day, they discovered the Islands location and they have been waiting here ever since hoping that the Island would reveal itself again, and now your people are about to bring them all here”

Sayid “Just for one moment lets assume your telling the truth, how do you purpose we stop them from coming here?”

Juliet “Hopefully Charlie and Desmond haven’t turned of the jamming equipment in the Looking Glass yet. If that’s the case we are safe for now. If they have then I really don’t know. It may not be possible to stop them finding us now.”

Sayid “I do not trust you or your people Juliet but what worries me more than anything at the moment is that I don’t believe your lying to me, I need to talk to Jack we need to let him know what you just told me”

Sayid/Juliet Both look over to where Hurley Sawyer Jin & Bernard are drinking beer by the Van, Sayid shouts out

Sayid “Hurley”

Hurley looks over still laughing with the rest of the group

Hurley “Yo”

Sayid “Come quickly bring the radio”

Hurley finishes beer and grabs radio out of van, comes over to Sayid/Juliet as fast as he can

Hurley “He we go man what’s up?”

Sayid “I need to talk to Jack”

like a piece of trash, Your

girlfriend dumped you, You didnt

fit in with the commune, Your dad

tried to kill you and you ended up

here.

(Ben laughs again)

But this place is different John.

This is the first place youve been

accepted the first place youve

been loved, My people understand

you, This island gave you back

everything you lost from the

outside world and if you ever leave

you know that you will go back to

your sad life where you are nothing

but a paralyzed regional sales

manager at a box company who

couldnt go on his walkabout

because he couldnt walk.

LOCKE

And you dont want to take me back

to your people because when I tell

them about Jacob, You dont want

them to know that im special

because when they found out I heard

Jacob they will realize they no

longer need you and they will kill

you.

(Short Pause)

So ill ask you again, Will you take

me to your people

BEN

Youll have to kill me, Sorry that

you cant

Locke hits Ben over the head with his stick knocking him
down. There is then a camera shot from Bens PoV.

M'Aidez

Scene 1:
A blue eye opens, followed by a sigh. The eye reflects a blinking red light from somewhere overhead. The eye belongs to a man in his mid-30s. The figure, silhouetted in the dark, sits up and sighs heavily as he places his head in his hands. The blinking red light overhead flashes continuously. The man reaches out and grabs an old alarm clock from the bed stand. The time is 8:42 am.

Scene 2:
The man is bustling through the inner workings of what appears to be a ship. Several men are hurling coals into the steaming engines, and there is much shouting and machinery noise. The man climbs a steel staircase and walks through a metal door. After trudging through several grubby and filthy corridors he arrives at a door marked Bridge, which is guarded by two men dressed in black.

First man: (mocking) Nice of you to drop by Marc.

Second man: We’ve only been waiting twenty minutes for you.

Marc: After nearly four years of waiting, I think another twenty minutes wouldn’t matter so much.

First man: (sarcastic) Well you were obviously bored of waiting, just like us. Why you had to get her....

Marc: I’m well aware of what I did, and it doesn’t change her place on this mission. Are you going to let me in or what?

The two men snigger and let Marc through into the bridge. Marc is greeted by several men and someone who is obviously the captain of the vessel.

Captain: Excellent, you’re here at last.

Marc salutes the captain.

Marc: What’s the situation, sir?

Captain: We picked up a radio transmission this morning.

Marc: What?!

Captain: It’s incredible. After nearly four years of searching, I think we may have finally discovered it.

Marc: (awed) What were the... I mean, what did the message contain?

Captain: We haven’t been able to translate yet. There’s too much interference in this area, but I’ve got my men working on it.

Marc: When are we going in to investigate?

Captain: Immediately if you like. I’ve assembled a team for you.

Marc: Captain, I have my own team. You know that.

Captain: Yes, I know Marc, but after... recent developments, I don’t think she’s fit for going.

Marc: Sir, my wife is more capable of doing her job than most men here, regardless of her condition. I’ll have my team ready in twenty minutes.

Captain: Marc, I strongly advise...

Marc: I’m doing it my way, or we can forget everything.

Marc turns and storms out of the room.

Scene 3:

A storm is battering the side of the ship. We see several men loading supplies into a smaller vessel attached to the side of the ship. Marc is directing the men to load food, electrical equipment and what appear to be packs of weapons.

Marc: Get those batteries loaded while I fetch the rest of the team.

Sailor: Yes sir.

Marc turns and heads back into the ship. As he proceeds down a long corridor another sailor stops him.

Sailor 2: Marc, the Captain wants to speak to you immediately. They’ve translated the message. He wouldn’t tell me what it said, but he seemed shook up about it.

Marc: I have no time Fran. We have to go now, before the captain...... Before he stops us.

Fran: What? Why would he stop you?

Marc: Because what we’ve found is not what he’s looking for.

Before the sailor can speak Marc turns and rushes down the corridor. He stops at a door and opens it up. Inside is a woman, silhouetted against the light, packing her belongings.

Marc: Are we ready, my love?

Woman: (in a strange accent) Yes, I’ve been ready for ten years.

Marc: (nodding) We’re heading out immediately.

The woman sighs, then zips up her cases. Then she turns to Marc.

Woman: I love you, Marc.

Marc: I love you too, Danielle.

Scene 4:

The scouting vessel is being lowered towards the raging ocean. The storm buffets the boat, but the men on board keep it under control. The boat lands on the surface and the ropes are cut. Marc turns on the motor and prepares to set out. However, the captain’s voice suddenly crackles over the radio.

Captain: Marc, what are you doing? Get back on board immediately.

Marc: I can’t do that sir.

Captain: Look, that transmission we picked up is not what you think. It’s a short series of numbers. That’s why we couldn’t translate. They’re just numbers repeated on a loop.

Marc: I know.

Captain: Repeat that Marc. You’re breaking up. I thought you said, “you know”.

Marc: Yes, that’s right sir.

Captain: But, that means.... Marc, what have you dragged us out here for? The Auriga isn’t out here is it. You’re looking for something else.

Marc: Not looking for sir. Found.

Marc engages the motor and heads out into the storm. As the boat pulls away we hear the captain’s voice shouting over the radio.

Captain: Marc! Marc Montand! Return to this ship immediately! That’s an order! Marc!!!

Lost

Scene 5:

Present day: On the island, Jack’s group are preparing to head back after the successful transmission made by the radio. After waking Ben and untying him from the post they drag him behind them. Jack gets on the radio.

Jack: Sawyer, you there?

Sawyer: What’s up Doc?

Jack: We’re heading back to the beach.

Sawyer: Well, that’s good to hear. You’ll be here for Zeke and the others’ funeral. Did you reach Naomi’s ship?

Jack: Yeah, they’re on their way.

Sawyer: Well, today just keeps on getting better. So, we in line for being rescued?

Jack: Just be on the look out.

Sawyer: You got it Doc.

Jack: How are Sayid, Jin and Bernard?

Sawyer: Yeah, the three amigos are just peachy.

Jack: And Juliet?

Sawyer: She’s fine too. Freckles there with you?

Jack: She’s here.

Kate: (standing next to Jack) Hey Sawyer.

Sawyer: Hey Kate. You up for some rescuing?

Kate: Sure am Sawyer.

Jack: We’ll see you in a few hours.

Sawyer: Jack?

Jack: Yeah?

Sawyer: Try not to kill yourself.

Jack smiles and ends the call. He turns to the group.

Jack: Ok, we’re heading back to the beach. I don’t know when rescue’s coming, so we should hurry back and pack our belongings for when they arrive. Rousseau? (Danielle turns to Jack). What’s the quickest way back to our camp?

Rousseau: The quickest way is through the dark territory, past the Black Rock. But it is dangerous, and you should stay alert.

Jack: (nods) Let’s go then.

Ben: Dark territory? Is that what you call that place?

Jack: Shut up.

Ben: Why don’t you just leave me here Jack. I did everything to stop you killing your friends, but it seems you have to do this. Let me go back to my people. My work is done.

Jack: No, you’re coming with us. Your work’s not done yet.

The group head out.

Scene 6:

Several hours later, the survivors reach the border of the dark territory.

Rousseau: Jack. Inform everyone to stay alert. This place plays tricks with your mind.

Jack nods. Ben looks at Danielle and smirks that smirk of his.

Ben: You’re afraid of this place aren’t you.

Danielle: (looking at Ben) No. Should I be?

Ben: It’s where you killed them isn’t it? And your husband.

Danielle: That was a long time ago.

Ben: Not long enough for you to forget.

Danielle turns away from him.

Scene 7 (Flashback):

We see a young Danielle Rousseau sitting in a large lecture hall, surrounded by several students. A lecturer is pointing at a large chalk board with a stick. The board is filled with writing and equations.

Lecturer: And so, as we can plainly see, there are several factors that govern the continuing survival of a given species. Scientists have postulated that there are six numbers that represent these values of survival, and it is our ongoing task to discover what these numbers are.

Danielle: (Puts her hand up) Sir?

Lecturer: Yes, Danielle.

Danielle: If we were to discover the numerical value of these factors, wouldn’t they just change to something else?

Lecturer: We have never had cause to find out. These supposed six numbers are only a fraction, indeed they are solely the basic principles, of the complex “Life” equation. It will be a long time before we even grasp the full structure of this equation, but it would take the most brilliant human mind to comprehend it.

Danielle: Have any of these numbers been discovered?

Lecturer: Not yet. One person came close, a man named Valenzetti I believe, but he died just before his work could be completed. I seriously doubt whether the numbers he postulated were indeed correct anyway.

Danielle: What happened to his work?

Lecturer: I’m afraid nobody knows the answer to that question. (He continues to discuss further, but Danielle’s mind wanders.)

The seminar finishes and Danielle is outside, walking towards the College cafeteria. As she walks, her lecturer approaches her from behind.

Lecturer: Danielle, I’m glad I caught you.

Danielle: Yes, sir?

Lecturer: I could see I struck a note with you about Valenzetti’s numbers. My discussions seem to go over most people’s heads, but I see you were most attentive.

Danielle: I find the idea of a series of numbers that govern a species existence most interesting.

Lecturer: Indeed, my thoughts exactly. I’m afraid I had to lie a little about the known whereabouts of Valenzetti’s work. Here, take this.

The lecturer hands Rousseau a book. The title reads “Islands of the Pacific”.

Danielle: What’s this?

Lecturer: The last known whereabouts of Valenzetti’s work. Check page 143.

Danielle flicks through the book till she reaches the page. It shows a large expanse of the Pacific Ocean with a question mark drawn near the centre.

Danielle: What’s this? A treasure map?

Lecturer: It’s more of a map to the most important equation in Human history.

Reprieve

MAN: Honey, can you pass the salt, please?

WOMAN: Of course, darling, here you are.

MAN: Thanks. So, Josh, what did you learn about in school today?

JOSH: We were studying contemporary culture again. Mr. Cantos has this real thing for TV shows, I tend to just humour him, if it means a good report card so I can go to away this summer...

WOMAN: I'm not sure I like some of the stuff that school teaches. We spend all this money on a private education, and you're learning about being a slob who spends all his day watching TV and ordering take-out. Whatever happened to basic literacy and etiquette in our schools nowadays?

MAN: You said it Marge, I mean you know about Mark's son when he was temping for us at work, he couldn't even spell the company name right. He kept putting it as...

WOMAN: Well that's the McBrien's for you through and through, if Kristen wasn't too busy polishing off a bottle of wine, maybe she'd teach her son some manners and basic skills. I told you about the time she turned up for bridge, I could smell the drink on her from down the hall.

[Girl enters the house]

GIRL: Oh my God, you have to turn on the TV!

MARGE: And where have you been? If you've been seeing Sean again, I swear, the only memory you'll have of your prom is a photo of all your friends in the yearbook enjoying themselves.

GIRL: Mom, seriously, turn it on!

MARGE: We will do no such thing, we are eating!

MAN: Listen to your mother.

GIRL: Urgh!

[She turns on TV]

REPORTER: Again, we have breaking news that the remains of Oceanic Flight 815 have been found, just off the Bali coast. A press conference should shortly follow, where we will see our first glimpse of the doomed plane from cameras.

[Marge turns off the TV]

[Short pause]

MARGE: Great, Rebecca, now can we please eat.

[Short pause, faster tempo then resumes as normal, moment was fleeting]

GIRL: Pardon me for showing an interest in current affairs.

MAN: Sweetie, the news is for people who have nothing better in their lives to have a care or opinion about.

GIRL: Sheltered much.

JOSH: Don't worry, Dad, Becca's just going through her “I have an opinion” phase.

GIRL: As opposed to “deluded narcissistic jerk”?

MAN: [Sarcastically] Isn't it nice that we can all sit together and chat about our days?

GIRL: Fine whatever. Anyway, I wanna call Alan.

WOMAN: Why do you want to bother him? Your brother is doing important work, Rebecca. Besides, you probably won't be able to get a secure signal.

REBECCA: Well I can try. I mean he has his phone. And yeah, I'm sure he's so busy looking for a place which he's spent the last month not being able to find, to just take a quick phone call from his sister.

[Marge becomes serious and approaches her daughter confrontationally]

WOMAN: That “place” is key to everything lest you forget! Or would you rather we not try and change the world as we know it.

[Pause]

REBECCA: No. I'm sorry.

[Long pause]

MAN: [To wife, big cheesy smile] More peas, sugar?

CREDITS

[At the radio tower, everyone stands without words]

JACK: Is she...

KATE: She's dead.

JACK: What the hell was he doing? Has he lost his mind?!

KATE: He's gone, and we're going home, that's all that matters now.

CLAIRE: All that matters? He killed Naomi, and tried to kill Jack too. He's dangerous.

JACK: We can't stay here now.

SUN: We should go back to the beach, so we can all be together when rescue arrives.

KATE: She's right.

JACK: We don't even know where they're gonna arrive from.

KATE: Well... ask?

[Jack holds the phone to his ear]

JACK: Hello? [Pause] Nah he's not there, but the connnection's there so the trace is on.

ALEX: They'll be coming from the West.

ROSE: I thought they were East?!

ALEX: [Firmly] They'll arrive from the West. It happens.

JACK: Well that's on the opposite side of the Island. We won't be able to make it there in time.

ALEX: We can, but not all of us. There's underground access connecting the DHARMA facilities. There's one near here.

JACK: What?

ALEX: It doesn't always work too good, but it'll get us there twice as fast. Only problem is on it'll only fit six.

JACK: Why didn't Juliet...

ALEX: She doesn't know about it. Ben kept it need to know.

[Jack and Kate look at each other with distrust]

KATE: The satellite phone won't work underground.

JACK: Then I'll lead everyone else back to the beach. You head West with them.

KATE: No, you're the one they know, our leader. You need to be there.

SUN: Yes, Jack, you should go. We will be fine by ourselves, you've already brought us this far.

[Jack pauses then hands Kate Ben's walkie and the satellite phone]

JACK: Radio Sayid and tell him to meet you part way.

KATE: Got it.

[They exchange brief glances. Jack turns to Alex]

JACK: OK, so who's coming with us?

DANIELLE: [Looking at Alex] I will.

KARL: Me, me too.

JACK: [Motioning to an unconscious Ben] We'll have to take him too.

ALEX: That leaves one more space, if anyone wants to come.

ROSE: If you will Jack, I think Claire and Aaron should go with you. [To Claire] You're already worn out, sweetheart.

CLAIRE: No, I wanna be here when Charlie calls.

JACK: Claire, Charlie's fine, he turned off the jammer didn't he?

[Claire looks distant]

JACK: Come on. You'll see him soon enough. [Speaks to the group] All right. I'm gonna head for that shore and meet up with the boat, I want all of you to head back down to the beach. Its safe there now. Sayid will meet you there, and then just wait for me. I'll bring the boat to us. [To Kate] I'll see you later.

KATE: Yeah.

JACK: [To Alex] Lead the way.

[The groups head off in different directions]

HURLEY: Do you think they did it?

SAWYER: Of course they did it, Hugo.

SAYID: I have every confidence in Jack. We're going to be rescued.

JULIET: Its not over yet. You don't know Ben like I do, he will do everything in his power to keep us from leaving, including killing every one of us if he has to.

SAWYER: [Sighs] Well ain't he just a sweet little poppin' fresh.

HURLEY: How come he cares so much anyway?

JULIET: I don't know, but my people always had to be secrecy around outsiders, especially when recruiting off-Island. I mean, he said Jacob wanted it that way but never....

HURLEY: Er guys.... look.

[On the horizon is a freighter. The rescue boat]

[FLASHBACK]

[Some dinner function is underway, with the men in suits and women in summer frocks. Hurley walks through the crowd towards the buffet. His shirt is untucked etc. A man is stood chatting with a few other business types]

SUIT MAN: And so, of course, that combined with fuel prices, their stock plummeted just as I predicted.... Hugo!!! I've been looking all over for you.

HURLEY: Oh, hey Mr. Deakin.

DEAKIN: Harry, please. And how is my favourite entrepreneur?

HURLEY: I dunno, OK I guess.

DEAKIN: OK?! Hugo your enterprises are doing fantastic. And I must say I'm surprised also by the serendipity you've encountered. I mean the accident at that orphanage, you must have made millions in liable...

HURLEY: Erm... yeah. Nice talking to you, Mr Deakin, but I gotta go meet my financial advisor.

DEAKIN:[Chipper] Always work work work with you, eh Hugo. Well, I won't stand in your way.

HURLEY: OK, later.

DEAKIN: Just a second Hugo. Just remember that no matter what, certain people are born with luck. Life is chance, but there's a line between success and failure that comes naturally to some.

[Shrugs off the philosophy jargon upon seeing Hurley's straight face]

DEAKIN: You're a lucky man, Hugo, its time you started appreciating it. [Short pause, then big grin again] Now you go on, you scamp, haha!

[Hurley walks on with a long stare]

The Future Ain't What It Used To Be

[Shot of an eye looking unfocused and a bit blood shot. Camera pulls back showing us Claire sitting with a group of young people around a table in a crowded bar. They appear to be drunk. Claire, looking disheveled, is sitting, nursing her drink looking unaware of her surroundings. The television mounted above the bar is on. Various posters of touring bands are right below it. Camera shot tightens on the television. The TV reporter is on an “Entertainment” show.]

TV ANNOUNCER: [Cheerful, gossipy voice] Yes, as you’ve probably heard by now, Charlie Pace has died of an apparent heroin overdose! He was the bass player for the band ‘Driveshaft’ which had that one hit smash “You All Everybody”.

[Music cues, song starts. Claire raises her head and looks blearily confused at the TV screen].

TV ANNOUNCER: [continues over the music] Charlie was found dead two days ago lying in an alleyway in Manchester. His brother, Liam, who lives right here in Sydney said that he and Charlie had become estranged and hadn’t spoken in some time.
[TV shot of Liam talking to a reporter]
LIAM: Charlie had some substance abuse problems the last few years. Ironically, initially I was the one with the problem and he tried to save me. I always thought that he too would turn it around. It just feels overwhelmingly sad, and strange, really, that it happened this way.
TV ANNOUNCER: Liam left this morning to attend the funeral. [Shot of Liam boarding plane] Charlie was a fan favorite, always clowning around…. [On the TV: Shot of Charlie laughing and moving his finger in a circular manner (like telling someone to wrap up the song) Close up shot of the DS ring.]

[Shot of Claire’s shocked face in the pub followed by in quick succession: Flash of Charlie making similar hand motion with the fake jar of peanut butter. Flash of her on the beach when she first met him. Flash of them releasing the gull. Flash of her reading the “Greatest Hits” list and holding the DS ring (In this shot she should be wearing the same clothes as she wore in the finale on the hilltop). Flash of Charlie holding and rocking Aaron.]

CLAIRE: [jumps up, spilling drinks, nearly knocking over the table. She yells.] Aaron! His name is Aaron!

GUY WHO IS NEXT TO HER: No, actually the name is Barry….

CLAIRE: Not you! You effing idiot! My baby! My baby’s name is Aaron!

GIRL AT THE TABLE: I thought you said they named him Clarence.

CLAIRE: Ohmygod, Ohmygod, I wasn’t supposed to give him up! His name is Aaron. I must have met Charlie?..He..? [Looks confused, and then resolute] Oh God I have to get Aaron back!

GIRL: Well they aren’t going to give him back, are they. You signed papers, remember? And that was what? Months ago? Come on, forget about it girl, sit down, drink up, have some fun—you don’t really want to be a mum.

CLAIRE: [tears streaming down her face] I have to get Aaron back. [Staggers towards the door. The remaining friends roll their eyes]

GIRL: [sarcastically] Like even a one-hit-wonder would have anything to do with her.

BARRY: I wonder what the hell she was drinking [looks hopefully into her glass]

************************************************** *************

[Desmond is seen in the Looking Glass Station facing the flooded com room. There is a loud persistent rhythmic banging (as heard in the ‘Finale’). He seems to become more aware of his surroundings. He turns to see that a portion of the floor that had initially pulled back is just now slowly banging its way back into place. He walks hesitantly towards the rim. We see a tube like entry descending down, at the end of which is a murky filmy plasma like substance. It clangs shut. Desmond looks around. Nearby on the wall is a clipboard with a series of equations on it. He pulls it off the board, looks at it, but without a look of recognition. We see him checking the various areas of the station. Shot of the sub dock, etc. He then walks across the floor to where he had dropped the two wetsuits and oxygen tanks. He pulls one on, sees the other suit (Shot of the suit that he had taken down for Charlie), then pulls out Charlie’s “Hit List” from his shirt on the floor and carefully transfers both it and the equation sheet into a plastic waterproof bag that was attached to his BCD. He looks again where the plasma pool had appeared, the floor cover is smooth with no visible handles or mechanism. Finally Desmond lowers himself into the original entry pool. He swims around the outside of the station looking carefully at its surface.]
[Suddenly a boat appears overhead. Three men splash into the water, two carrying ASM-DTR underwater rifles, and the other a speargun. One of them gestures to the other two and points. We see that Charlie’s body has become caught in the porthole. It now suddenly breaks free and starts to float upward. His body is immediately shot through with at least twenty steel rods, followed by the speargun. Desmond, unseen, had initially started to move forward, now jerks back reflexively and quickly moves under the station. Camera again on Charlie. Massive amounts of blood are dispersing in the water. Two divers are approaching his body. The third is swimming into the station. Desmond puts the station between himself and the divers and then hurriedly swims the opposite way, back towards the shore.]
[We see Desmond come up on the shore hidden behind a reef outcropping. Camera shot looking back towards the station reveals a boat bobbing in the water with two armed men on board. They have pulled over the canoe and are examining it. A freighter is off in the distance. Desmond sheds the oxygen tank and then begins to run all out towards the beach camp.]

************************************************** ****************************

[Claire is also running all out. We see that she’s running towards a baby stroller. Aaron is crying very loudly.]

[Noise that indicates a flashback]. [One week earlier:]
CLAIRE: [Standing on a sidewalk talking on a cell phone. People are walking by]
Hello? Mrs. Stewart? This is Claire. Please listen. I’m so sorry about last night. I was pretty smashed. You know how that is? [Nervous laugh]….I…I just wanted to see Aaron, that’s all. Just see him. I didn’t mean to frighten you. [Voices, banging phone noise. Man’s voice comes on the phone]

MR. STEWART: [Tersely] Claire? This is Mr. Stewart. As my wife reminded you last night, the papers you signed agreed that you would have no contact with Clarence.

CLAIRE: But I just want to see him, just once. Please.

MR. STEWART: [Anger boiling over] Listen. This morning I took out a restraining order. I’m warning you! YOU LEAVE MY WIFE AND MY SON ALONE!!! [Phone is banged down]
[Claire looks bereft.]
[Noise indicating return to current scene with Claire]

[Again we see Claire running towards a baby stroller. Aaron is crying very loudly. We see a teen aged nanny about 30 feet away from the stroller, completely ignoring Aaron. She’s standing in the doorway of Marveletti’s Comics chatting, flirting with a young man. She laughs at something he says. Claire reaches the stroller. Aaron sees her, stops crying and reaches up to her. Claire’s face is filled with love and happiness. She reaches down and picks him up. The nanny notices that Aaron isn’t crying and turns to see what’s going on.]
NANNY: Hey! What are you doing? Get away from him!

CLAIRE: [looks up.] It’s ok—I’m just holding him for a minute. [Claire reluctantly starts to lower Aaron back down]

NANNY: Oh s**t! Jason I think that’s the girl the Stewarts told me to watch out for!

[Jason started moving towards Claire before the nanny even started her sentence. Claire looks up, sees Jason who appears threatening, running towards her. She hesitates, then lifts Aaron back up, turns and runs. She arrives at the corner but there is heavy traffic. Claire stops, looks upset, but does not move forward. She starts to turn back, and then we see a man’s arm push Claire]
[In slow motion we see Claire fall forward. Aaron is no longer in her arms. We see her reaching out. Her purse falls next to her into the street. Cars are stopping. Her cell phone skitters out of her purse across the pavement. Claire lifts her head; we see that her face is scraped. She tries to look around, sees something outside of our vision, pain/grief suffuses her face. She silently mouths the word Aaron, and then closes her eyes.]
[We see a male hand pick up her cell.]

Other Side of the Glass

[A tape deck is turned on, and Sex Pistol’s “God Save The Queen” begins blaring in what seems to be the front of a car. Through the windshield it is raining heavily. The car suddenly skids to a halt. Single images begin to quickly recount the events of “Through the Looking Glass” including Jack’s flash forward. Then a shot of Desmond’s eye.]

SOLDIER 1: Des, mate, are you alright? Maybe one too many at the pub?

DESMOND: Yeah brother, I’m fine.

SOLDIER 1: Well hurry on then, you know how the captain lays into us when we’re late.

DESMOND: Then I guess we should hurry on.

[The car begins its journey again and the rain on the window gets more intense.]

-LOST – Intro-

[In the Looking Glass Station Desmond kneels next to the door where Charlie sacrificed himself]

DESMOND: …and I will dwell in the valley of the house of the Lord, forever. Amen.

[Desmond stands up and puts his scuba gear and jumps into the water]

[At the radio tower]

BEN: You’ve killed us all Jack.

JACK: I’ve just saved us all.

BEN: Let me go, I don’t want to be saved. This place is special and you all know it. They are
coming now are going to destroy us and this island. I’ve been here too long to let that happen.

ALEX: Who are they?

BEN: Those people coming are part of a group of scientists that used to inhabit this place, and they
are very angry we are here now. They are intending to return the favor. That’s why we have
intended to shield them from coming here, to prolong the inevitable.

[Kate turns to Jack clearly confused]

KATE: We will just explain to them that we crashed here.

BEN: As far as the rest of the world knows, Miss Austen, you’re dead underwater near Bali.

-COMMERCIAL BREAK-

[Desmond reaches the shore, unpacks, and begins heading back to camp looking back once more
and reflecting on Charlie’s death]

[As Desmond’s car pulls into the barracks he is greeted by highly armored personnel who inspect his
car and identification thoroughly]

SOLDIER 1: One of the higher ups must be passing through; we never put on a show like this.

[Desmond rolls down his window, the rain still unrelenting]

DESMOND: What’s all this about?

GATE GUARD: Sorry

[The gate guard hands Desmond his I.D. back]

GATE GUARD: They’ve asked us to step up security since receiving our new visitors.

DESMOND: Visitors?

GATE GUARD: Move through mate, the captain will probably want to brief you.

[In the barracks briefing room]

CAPTAIN: Pleasure you could join us Lance Corporal Hume.

DESMOND: My apologies sir, the rain has been causing quite a bit of problems on the road.

CAPTAIN: I don’t think that’s the liquid that has been causing the problems. Take a seat.

DESMOND: Aye sir.

[Desmond sits among other soldiers getting briefed]

CAPTAIN: At 0600 this morning, The Royal Scots in conjunction with MI6, captured 4 suspected
terrorists their origin is, we believe, from…

[A Soldier rushes into the room pulling the attention of everyone]

SOLDIER 2: Captain, sir, one of them has escaped.

CAPTAIN: How in the bloody hell did he manage that?

SOLDIER 2: I don’t know sir.

CAPTAIN: Alright men, go out and find him. You will be given his profile in the motor pool, Hume, you
come with me.

DESMOND: Sir?

CAPTAIN: You’re going to talk to one of them.

-COMMERCIAL BREAK-

[Desmond reaches camp to find Hurley, Sawyer, Juliet, Sayid, Jin, and Bernard noticing the
corpses.]

DESMOND: Looks like it all worked then?

HURLEY: Not exactly, dude, like, they were captured, and we came back to help and then Sawyer
didn’t want me to go but I did anyway, and I…

SAWYER: Spare him, stay-puffed.

[Looking towards Desmond]

SAWYER: Yeah, we got them. Did you deactivate that jammer whatever?

DESMOND: Charlie got it, yeah.

JULIET: Where is Charlie?

DESMOND: There was an explosion and the room filled too quickly and he didn’t make it out. He
drowned.

[Silence surrounds the camp]

BERNARD: He died to save us, quite the sacrifice.

DESMOND: Aye, he gave me a message though, I need to get it to Jack quick.

HURLEY: Here, we grabbed the walk-talkie from them. Jack is on the other end.

[Desmond begins to transmit his message]

DESMOND: Jack, are you there?

JACK: Desmond? It worked, we got the signal out. Help is coming from Naomi’s ship.

HURLEY: It worked!! We’re saved! Good bye scary island.

[Hurley picks up Juliet and gives her a hug, Bernard is explaining to Jin what has happened, and the
other castaways are reveling in their salvation]

DESMOND: Jack, brother, it’s not Penny’s boat.

JACK: What?

KATE: Who is it then?

BEN: Jack, please! Will you just listen to me?

SAWYER: If it’s not Penneria’s boat, who is coming?

DESMOND: Her name is Penny brother, and I don’t know.

[Desmond is walking down a dark corridor with his Captain]

CAPTAIN: This one has been giving us no cooperation. Insisting no affiliation with the others.

DESMOND-Hesitant: What exactly is it that you want me to do, sir?

CAPTAIN: Talk, find out what information you can. If you can’t get anything, you are going to take
more drastic measures.

[The captain opens the door to find a person seated in a chair with a bag over their head. Desmond
walks in, the door shuts behind him, and he slowly pulls the bag off to reveal Nadia.]

-COMMERCIAL BREAK-

[On the beach Hurley, Juliet, Sawyer, Desmond, Jin, Bernard, Sayid are burying the last of the
bodies and make an extra cross for Charlie]

HURLEY: So do we have an idea who’s coming for us?

[Jin looks out to sea in reflection]

JIN: Boat!

[The others look where he points, the image of a boat breaks the horizon.]

SAYID: I think we are about to find out.

[Sayid grabs a rifle.]

HURLEY: Whoa, dude what are you doing?

SAYID: These people are not who they say they are Hurley, I want to know why.
SAWYER: He’s right Yokozuna, Naomi told us they were here for Des.

DESMOND: I don’t think we should say ‘Hi’ with gun in our hands, we need to find out what their
motives are.

SAYID: I believe that time has come and gone my friend.

DESMOND: This isn’t the wild west brother, we can’t just go in guns blazing and hope to get
answers.

[Desmond sits in the interrogation room with Nadia]

NADIA: I’ve told you, over and over again, I left Iraq going where I thought they could never find
me. I am not a terrorist.

DESMOND: You’ve been here for four days, they will not let you leave until you tell them what you
know.

NADIA: I know nothing! I sought shelter and they provided it, I ate, work, slept, I make dinner not
bombs.

[The door behind Desmond opens]

CAPTAIN: Hume, I need to speak to you.

[Outside the room, the Captain and Desmond speak, the Captain hands Desmond a toolbox]

DESMOND: What is this for sir?

CAPTAIN: Enough with the talking Hume, we need to know what they were doing.

DESMOND: I don’t think she knows anything sir. I can’t do this.

CAPTAIN: This is an order Lance-Corporal Hume, failure to comply will have its consequences.

[Desmond grabs the box and heads inside]

-COMMERCIAL BREAK-

[Nadia sits as Desmond enters with his box]

NADIA: I knew it would come to this.

DESMOND: Please, just tell them what they need to know.

NADIA: There is nothing to tell.

[Desmond hesitantly puts the box onto the table]

NADIA: Your eyes are kind, they remind me of a man I was in love with.

DESMOND: Please stop.

[Desmond opens the box to view all the instruments inside, turns around, and knocks on the door, it
opens and he exits with the box. Upon exiting he hands the captain the chest.]

DESMOND: I can’t sir.

CAPTAIN: You will reenter that room, and obey the order.

DESMOND: No, sir, I will not.

CAPTAIN: I am sorry it has had to come to this Hume.

DESMOND: Sir?

CAPTAIN: Guards, please escort Lance-Corporal Hume to the holding area where he will await trial
by military tribunal.

[Very early morning on the beach reveals Sayid standing watch towards the boat on the horizon.
The sound of a small boat grows louder.]

SAYID: Everyone get up, they’re here.

[Suddenly a spotlight lightens the area on the beach, illuminating Sayid who stands alone. The boat
pulls ashore and multiple figures step forward to greet Sayid. One steps forward into the light to
reveal Michael Dawson.]

MICHAEL: Hello Sayid.

Our Mutual Friend

INT. OFFICE -NIGHT

CLASSICAL MUSIC PLAYS softly in the background. On a wall is
a MAP OF THE WORLD. There is a RED CIRCLE marked around an
area in the South Pacific. Several PUSH-PINS of various
colors are tacked within the circle and just outside of it.
A POST-IT NOTE is placed next to the circle. Written in pen
on the note is: 04-11-27.

A MAN sitting at a desk, we can only see his hand, is
mimicking conducting an orchestra to the sound of the music,
using a DART like a conductor’s baton. The MAN sets down the
dart and picks up a GLASS OF ALCOHOL. When he sets the glass
down on the desk, it is empty. The MAN takes a bottle and
pours more alcohol into the glass, as he sets the bottle
down, we see it’s MACCUTHEON WHISKEY.

The MAN is lifting the glass again to take another drink as
there is a BUZZING sound. With his other hand, the man
presses a button on the phone and as he takes another drink,
we see the MAN is CHARLES WIDMORE.

CHARLES WIDMORE
Yes, Kim?

KIM

(from phone)

I’m patching through Minkowski from

the freighter.

CHARLES WIDMORE nods as if KIM could see him, sets down the
glass and picks up the dart again. He begins twirling the
dart in his fingers, as:

MINKOWSKI

(from phone)

Mr. Widmore, we’ve lost contact

with Naomi’s freighter.

CHARLES WIDMORE
That’s not good news, Minkowski.
Keep trying. And, never forget, our
enemy’s on that island.

MINKOWSKI
Yes, sir. Of course, sir.

CHARLES WIDMORE
Namaste.

CHARLES WIDMORE presses a button on the phone, cutting off
MINKOWSKI. He throws the dart. The dart lands within the red
circle on the map.

2.
CHARLES WIDMORE (cont’d)
(O.S., smugly, whispered)
Bull’s eye.

CUT TO:

INT. LOOKING GLASS STATION -EARLY EVENING

DESMOND, nearly in tears, looks at the body of CHARLIE
floating. He pounds on the glass.

DESMOND
(with a tear, whispering)
Charlie... God be with you.

DESMOND scrambles to put on the scuba gear when he pauses.

CUT TO:

EXT. BEACH -EARLY EVENING

A DISCOLORATION of the shot suggests this is one of
DESMOND’S FLASHES. DESMOND, JIN, BERNARD, HURLEY, SAWYER,
SAYID, and JULIET are all at various places on the beach
looking out to the water. A SMALL BOAT is off in the
distance. All of them are waving their hands, trying to get
the attention of the boat. But the boat appears to be going
to down the coast away from them.

CUT TO:

EXT. JUNGLE -NIGHT

FLASH EFFECTS CONTINUE. DESMOND sees HURLEY lying on the
ground, bleeding and clutching his shoulder. HURLEY nods to
DESMOND, as if telling him to look behind him.

DESMOND turns. A BURLY STRANGER whacks him across the head
with the butt of a gun.

DESMOND falls to the ground.

DESMOND’S POV: DESMOND stares into the barrel of the gun as
the BURLY STRANGER starts to pull back the trigger.

CUT TO:

3.
INT. LOOKING GLASS STATION -EARLY EVENING

DESMOND, confused over his latest flashes, looks toward
CHARLIE’s body in the adjacent chamber.

DESMOND
(whispering)
Not Penny’s boat. Then whose?

Realizing he needs to warn everyone, DESMOND quickly
continues putting on the scuba gear.

CUT TO:

LOST

EXT. RADIO TOWER -EARLY EVENING

JACK, KATE, DANIELLE, and ALEX hover around BEN, tied to a
tree, quietly discussing what to do about him.

BEN
You really should’ve listened to
Locke this time, Jack. And me.

JACK
And why should I trust you, Ben?

BEN
Ah, touche. But I’m no longer Henry
Gale, though I suppose I deserve
the proverbial boy-who-cried-wolf
status you’ve adorned me with.

JACK
You certainly do.

BEN
But this wolf’s coming for us all,
Jack, can you handle that?

JACK
Gag him.
(a pause, then screams)
Gag him!

BEN
And as the leader shows weakness,
the followers show fear.

KATE whacks BEN across the head and then gags him.

4.
EXT. BEACH -EARLY EVENING

SAWYER drinks a BEER near the DHARMA VAN. JULIET walks away,
apparently disgusted by something he said. HURLEY takes this
as an opportunity to approach SAWYER.

HURLEY
You okay, man?

SAWYER
What? Are you looking for a
thank-you present? Take a beer.

HURLEY
Nah. I mean, you just shot that
guy, kinda cold-blooded, you know?

SAWYER
And when he took the kid, was that
a warm-and-fuzzy moment, Hugo?

HURLEY
Bet’s off, man. You can call me
Fatso -or Hagrid -or, I don’t
know Sir Ton O’Lard.

SAWYER

(laughing)
Sir Ton O’Lard? Well, thanks for
the permission, Hugo. I’ll keep it
in mind.

HURLEY
Okay. Fine. Well, I’ll see ya.

HURLEY walks off as SAWYER laughs, shakes his head and takes
another drink of the beer.

EXT. BEACH -EARLY EVENING (A LITTLE LATER)

HURLEY is walking with DESMOND, who has just told HURLEY
about his premonition.

HURLEY
Dude, why can’t your flashes ever
show good things?

DESMOND
Let me guess. You want me to see
what the winning lottery numbers
will be the week after we get back.

5.
HURLEY
On second thought, I’ll take bloody
Hurley.

INTERCUT BETWEEN:

EXT. BEACH -NIGHT

SAYID is speaking on the the walkie-talkie. DESMOND and
HURLEY look on.

WITH:

EXT. RADIO TOWER -NIGHT

JACK and KATE sit on the ground, talking. Everyone else is
out of earshot, and DANIELLE is watching over BEN.

SAYID
Jack. Are you there?

JACK
Sayid! Yes. I’m here. It’s great to
hear your voice again.

KATE
(shouting)
We’re glad you’re safe!

SAYID
Thank you. But there will be a time
for pleasantries later. Where’s
Naomi? Can she hear us?

JACK
Locke killed her.

SAYID
What?

JACK
He’s trying to sabotage our rescue
again. He’s lost it, Sayid,
muttering something about we’re not
supposed to leave like this. But we
managed to contact her ship.

SAYID
Jack, Naomi was lying. She wasn’t
with Penelope’s boat. Charlie got
in contact with Naomi before

6.
JACK
Great! Then Charlie’s safe, too.

SAYID
No, I’m sorry, he didn’t make it

KATE
Oh my god!

JACK tries fighting back tears.

SAYID
-but he managed to tell Desmond
before he -he gave us a message
that Naomi was not with Penelope.

(pauses)
And Desmond has -reason to believe
-they might attack us.

There is silence on the other end for a moment.

JACK
What -I mean, reason to believe
what’s that?

SAYID
Jack, there’s something you’re not
telling me.

JACK looks to KATE and KATE nods insistently.

JACK
It’s nothing. I mean, Ben said we
shouldn’t call the boat. He said
Naomi wasn’t who she claimed. But
he just wanted to keep us in this
godforsaken place.

SAYID
What else did Ben say?

JACK
He said -he said when they come,
they’d kill every living person on
this island. But we can’t trust,
Ben. Sayid, you know that.

SAYID
What about Locke? And Desmond? And
Charlie? Listen, Jack, until we
find out who these people are and
why they’re here, we must proceed
with caution. In the meantime, we

7.
SAYID (cont’d)
shouldn’t get everyone else too
excited about rescue just yet.

JACK looks up to see CLAIRE and SUN. SUN is holding AARON
and making baby faces at him. All of them are laughing.

JACK
Too late.

EXT. JUNGLE -MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, JUST BEFORE DAWN

DESMOND and HURLEY are looking through bushes. They are
looking at a man DESMOND recognizes as the BURLY STRANGER
from his flash. He appears to be scouting the area. He holds
a GUN in his hand.

HURLEY
Is that him?

DESMOND puts his finger to his mouth and nods. Before he can
do anything about it, HURLEY rushes BURLY STRANGER from
behind and tackles him. The gun flies from his hand. DESMOND
makes his way toward the gun.

BURLY STRANGER kicks backward, landing hard on HURLEY’s
groin. HURLEY rolls over in pain. BURLY STRANGER jumps on
top of HURLEY and tries to strangle him.

DESMOND now has the gun. He aims it at BURLY STRANGER and
fires. BURLY STRANGER falls dead on HURLEY. HURLEY pushes
him off.

HURLEY (cont’d)
Dude.

Broken Alliances

FIRST SHOT: AN EYE. THE CAMERA EXPANDS THE SHOT AND BEN IS TIED TO A TREE AT THE LOSTIES BEACH CAMP. CAMERA SCANS LOSTIES IN GENERAL STATE OF EXCITEMENT. CAMREA FOCUSES ON ROSEE AND BENARD.

ROSE I’m not staying on the island Bernard.

BENARD How are we going to live here?

ROSE Now how do you think I’m going to live out there?

BENARD We’ll find a way, I mean why do you think I risked my life shooting
dynamite?

ROSE I figured it was some sort of he-man foolishness.

CAMREA SHOT OF HURLEY COVERING THE DEAD OTHERS WITH SAND. CLAIRE
IS BESIDE HIM HOLDING AARON.

CLAIRE I don’t see the point Hurley.

HURLEY Their dead. Your supposed to respect the dead, even if they were
the bad guys.

CLAIRE Your respecting them by tossing sand on them.

HURLEY Nobody will help me bury them.

CLAIRE LOOKS OFF QUIETY.

HURLEY He’s ok.

CLAIRE LOOKS AT HURLEY

HURLEY Charlie. He’s ok. Him and Desmond are just taking the long way back.

CLAIRE. It’s a beach Hurley, how can they take the long way back?

HURLEY DOESN’T ANSWER. CAMREA SHOT OF SAND FALLING ON TOM’S FACE.

CLAIRE. So what are you going to say?

HURLEY What do you mean?

CLAIRE When you’re finished dumping sand on them won’t you give a eulogy?

HURLEY I’m just going to say something simple, that always seems to work.
Maybe something like “Even though they terrorized us and tried to kill us they were still people.”

CUT TO BEN TIED UP IN A TREE. JACK IS WATCHING HIM. SAWYER WALKS UP.

SAWYER Don’t see why you’re keeping him tied up.

JACK I’m not going to let him try something. I’m not going to let him ruin this
for us.

JACK LOOKS AWAY FROM BEN

SAWYER So why don’t you kill him, it would make things simpler.

JACK What are we going to tell the authorities when the find all these dead
bodies?

SAWYER I don’t know, tell them we encountered a bunch of cult loonies and
we had to defend ourselves.

JACK I would rather keep us as clean as possible.

SAWYER None of us are clean Jack. (BEAT OF SILENCE) Some of us are
building a fire on the beach so our rescuers can find us. Was wondering if you would like to help out.

JACK I’m going to keep an eye out on him.

JACKS LOOKS BACK TO SEE ROPES DROPPED DOWN AGAINST A TREE. NO BEN.

JACK Ben!

JACK RUNS TWOARD THE TREE AND LOOKS AROUND IN FUTILITY. HE IS RUIOUS AT LOSTING CONTROL

SAWYER Should’ve killed him doc.

COMERCIAL BREAK

CAMREA IS DIZZY, SOUND IS MUTED. THE FLOOR OF THE JUNGLE, THEN THE SKY, AND THEN THE CAMREA STOPS TO SEE LOCKE PIN BEN AGAINST A TREE.

BEN Hello Locke. I can’t say I was expecting you.

LOCKE PUNCHES HIM ONCE.

LOCKE That’s for trying to kill me. The way I see it, I’m allowed one hit.

BEN As long as it makes you feel better John.

LOCKE You will tell me everything about this island. You will tell me because
both of us want wants best for the island. You will tell me because both of us want to avoid a massacre.

BEN What makes you think I have the answers? Why do you continue to
think that I have some sort of special knowledge that prevents certain disaster? Believe me John if I had this special knowledge things would have turned out a lot different then they
have now.

LOCKE Things have turned out this way because you didn’t follow the island.

BEN Actually I was under the impression that things turned out this way
because you didn’t have the nerve to pull a trigger.

SHOT OF LOCKE SLIGHTLY CONSIDERING.

LOCKE Where are you people going?

BEN Where we’ve always gone in times of need, the Temple.

LOCKE Show me.

BEN If that’s what you want, but it might be in your best interest to bring
some people along.

LOCKE Why? Are you planning an ambush for me?

BEN Now, these are people that Jacob wants. Some people on his list. It
would be in all of our best interests If you invite them along.

CAMERA SHOT OF LOCKE AS HE CONSIDERS WHAT BEN HAS SAID. FOCUS ON
HIS FACE.

FLASH BACK TO LOCKE AT THE BOX FACTORY BREAK ROOM TALKING TO
THREE COCOWORKERS,

ALL OF THEM AT LEAST A DECADE AND A HALF YOUNGER THEN HE IS.

LOCKE But William was declared it for the night. NO matter what territory he
tried to invade, we would gang up on him. So here’s this World War 2 veteran commander cursing at us because we won’t him invade Australia.

GROUP LAUGHTER

WILBURT We ought to play together. All four of us. Listen I have a 1963 risk
set at home. Just got it off some sap at a flea market.

DAVID Nineteen Sixty Three?

WILBURT Yeah only put me back four dollars and eighty one cents. Can you
believe that? Redneck didn’t know what he was losing.

LOCKE Let’s all do that. We can make a weekly game night.

RANDY WALKS INTO THE BREAK ROOM

RANDY So what are you boys talking about a game night? Your starting a
poker league without me.

DEAN (NERVOUSLY) No boss we’re just planning on getting together to player
a little Risk, that’s all.

RANDY Really? I used to play that game quite a bit when I was a kid. I
wouldn’t mind reminiscing a bit about the old game.

WILBURT Well um well we kind of already…

LOCKE It would be a pleasure if you would join us Mr. Nations.

RANDY Good. I’m off this Friday so we can get together then. Send me the
location when you boys have it figured out.

RANDY LEAVES THE BREAK ROOM. THEY WAIT A MOMENT TO MAKE SURE HE
IS OUT OF EARSHOT.

WILBURT Now why the hell did you do that for?

LOCKE I just figured we could have a little fun with Mr. Nations. Just a little
harmless fun you know? The kind of fun I had with my old friend William.

LOCKE SMILES KNOWINGLY AS THE REST OF THE GROUP “GETS IT”.

SYNOPSIS

ON THE ISLAND: Preparations are being made to leave. Everyone is back at
the beach except for Locke.

Ben is tied up to a tree. Rose tells Bernard that she doesn’t want to go back.
Hurley is covering the dead Others with sand. As Jack talks to Sawyer Ben somehow escapes. We later
learn that Locke and set him and free and is determined to stop the invasion/rescue at any cost. Ben tells
Locke to gather some people who are on Jacob’s list. Locke gets Rose’s attention from the side of the jungle. He tells her that he plans on staying on the island, as he’s sure she plans to. Why don’t they join together and make their lives a little easier? Rose is naturally against the idea because of Locke’s actions at the tower but Lock counters that he realizes he made a mistake and reminds Rose that he didn’t pull the trigger. After some thinking Rose says she will join Locke. Locke asks about Bernard and Rose states that Bernard will go wherever she goes. Next Locke gets Hurley’s attention. He says he knows that Hurley was the only person who tried to bury the others. That was a noble thing. Locke says that kind of nobleness does not belong out in the world were it is scorned upon but rather on the island where it is rewarded. Hurley is “I don’t think so” about it but Locke asks him one simple question. Is he happier on the island or off of it. Next is Juliet. He tells her straight up that Ben wants her to come along She says hell no of course until Locke shows her a document. Upon reading it Juliet agrees. We see all three meeting up with Locke at the end of the episode. Jack has followed them. Him and locke get into it and Locke eventually leaves jack with “We are not meant to go off the island. Jack allows them to leave.

FLASHBACK Locke is at the Box factory with some coworkers planning a game
of risk. Randy invites himself in. Locke plans a setup against him. They all plan to gang up on Randy on the game and embarrass him. At the game night, Randy realizes what’s going on and catches Locke in
the kitchen grabbing snacks. Randy makes Locke a proposition. If he allows Randy to win, he’ll move Locke up in the company. Randy can arrange a meeting with “The Big Dude” and make Locke’s life a lot easier. Locke agrees and turns onhis friends allowing Randy the win.

The Prodigal Son

[Walt's eye staring intently. Camera pulls back to reveal Walt hiding in some tropical vegetation and looking out over a meadow. Locke strides into view and walks directly towards Walt.]

Walt: Did you stop them?

Locke: No.

Walt: What? You have to stop them. Whatever it takes, you have to stop
them.

Locke: I couldn't. There must be another way. Help us, Walt. There must be
another way.

[Flashback]

[Walt and Michael in open water on the boat they used to leave the island.
Walt wears a life vest.]

Walt: Dad, how do you know we're going in the right direction?

Michael: It's easy Walt. You see this dial here? [indicates instrument panel]
This is the compass. It tells us which way we're going. We just keep the boat
headed in the direction 325 and we'll be fine.

Walt: Do you think we did the right thing?

Michael: What do you mean?

Walt: Jack, Kate, Sawyer . . .

Michael: Of course, my little man. You don't have to worry about them. The
others were just using them to make sure we left. They were going to let
them go as soon as we left.

Walt: How do you know that?

Michael: They . . . uh . . . they told me. When I visited the first time. They
told me.

Walt: But why – [he stops and looks out over the bow of the boat] Dad, look!

[A freighter is visible just ahead of them.]

[End flashback]

[Walt and Locke walk through the jungle. They come to the powder that
Locke noticed on the first visit to Jacob. Walt stops just behind the powder.]

Walt: You have to go on from here without me.

Locke: Why? What - ?

Walt: I can't cross.

Locke: Why not? What is this stuff?

Walt: You have to go on without me. [Walt steps back into the jungle]

Locke: Walt! Walt! Wait, come with me! I need you. I need your help.

[Jack's group waits by the radio tower with elation. Only Danielle stands
apart from the celebrants, staying close to Ben who is still tied to the tree.
Jack talks into the walkie.]

Jack: Yeah, we made contact with Naomi's ship. They're just a few miles off
shore. They should be here in few hours to pick us up.
[Hurley stands on the beach talking into the walkie. Sawyer, Jin, Bernard,
Sayid and Juliet crowd around him to hear.]

Hurley: Awesome, dude! So should we like light a signal fire or something?

Jack's Voice: Sure that might help. Help the ship find the side of the island
where we'll be waiting.

Hurley: Okay, we'll get on it.

Sayid: A bonfire!

Hurley: So like what's the plan with you guys? You coming back down here or
what?

[Back to Jack watching his group.]

Jack: Yes, we're coming back to the beach. It will be much faster coming
down than it was climbing up here. We should be there by the time the boat
arrives.

[Flashback]

[Walt and Michael motor up to the side of the freighter in their little boat.
Walt waves his arms exuberantly at the men and women on the freighter
leaning over the side of the railing.]

Walt: Hey! Hey!

Man on Freighter: Hi there! Over here.

[He lowers a ladder over the side.]

Man: Climb up.

Michael: What about the boat?

Man: (laughing) You really want to keep that leaky tug?

Michael: No, no.

[Michael helps Walt on to the ladder and then climbs up himself. The "sailors"
crowd around them. They are all dressed in identical unfamiliar uniforms.]

Michael: Oh man, this is amazing, just amazing. I never thought we'd get
picked up this quick. You people are never going to believe what my boy and
I have been through. We were stranded on this island after our plane
crashed –

[An older man walks up as Michael is speaking and interrupts.]

Older Man: Michael. Walt. We've been waiting for you.

[End flashback]

[It is dusk. Locke walks through the jungle and approaches Jacob's cabin. He
hesitates outside, reluctant to go in. The "whisperers" start. Locke turns,
trying to see who is talking, but the whisperers are all around him. Only a few words are intelligible.]

Whisperers: John . . . (unintelligible whispering) . . . the key . . .
(unintelligible) . . . I fell . . . I fell . . . (unintelligible)

[The whisperers fade out. Locke steps up on Jacob's porch and takes down
the lantern. He lights it and enters the cabin. It appears empty.]

Locke: Are you here? (pause) Are you here? I need to talk to you. Walt
brought me this time. Please, I want to help you. They're coming. Do you
understand me? They're coming, and they don't understand the island.
Please, listen to me. I want to help the island.

Synopsis of middle of script

The group on the beach sees the outrigger returning, and Hurley contacts
Jack with the news that Desmond and Charlie are on their way back. Claire is
overwhelmed with relief at the news. It's only after they break the
connection with Jack, that the beach group can see that Charlie is not in the boat with Desmond. Desmond comes ashore and tells them what happened at
the Looking Glass Station.

In the next flashback, Michael is confused about how the people on the
freighter knew he and Walt were coming. He probes for information while still on the deck, and becomes more and more agitated as he realizes something
is very wrong. Walt is able to back away toward the railing of the freighter
because all the attention is on Michael. Walt jumps overboard, and still in his
life vest, manages to swim to the little boat and climb aboard. He starts up the motor and takes off, navigating in the opposite direction from the heading Michael showed him. The freighter is too unwieldy to chase after him.

We next see Locke leaving Jacob's cabin with a new confidence. He knows what to do and where to go. He carries the lantern with him.
No one on the beach wants to contact Jack's group with the news about Charlie. Bernard steps forward and says he will do it, that he couldn't save Jin from capture because he's not Rambo, but he can do this. Hurley hands the walkie to Bernard, whose hands are shaking so badly, he drops the walkie in a tarp trough full of water. They all stare at him in dismay. Sayid takes the walkie out of the water, tries it, and it doesn't work. While Sayid tries to fix the walkie, the rest of the beach group gets started on the signal fire.
In the last flashback, it is night and Walt is close to the island, trying to steer the boat over to the beach where he lived with the other crash survivors. He can see their campfires, but the boat appears to get caught in a current, and he is unable to control its direction. The boat lands on an unfamiliar beach. Walt climbs out and walks into the jungle.

Script

[It is dark when Jack's group makes it back to the beach. The beach group
has a large signal fire going.]

Rose: Bernard?

Bernard: Over here, Rose. I'm over here.

Rose: So you did it. You really did it. Maybe you are Rambo after all.

Bernard: No, Rose. No, I'm not.

Rose: Bernard? What's wrong, dear?

[Kate walks up to Sawyer.}

Kate: Hey.

Sawyer: Hey yourself.

Kate: [indicating Juliet] So, she got you their guns?

Sawyer: Uh, not exactly.

[Jack approaches Juliet.]

Jack: Thanks for helping.

Juliet: I didn't do much.

Jack: The guns . . . thanks . . . I –

Juliet: [interrupts him] There was no gun cache, Jack. Hurley was the real
hero today.

Jack: What?

[Off to the side, Jin and Sun are locked in each other's arms talking rapidly in
Korean. Jin says something, and Sun cries out in horror. She looks around for
Claire.]

Claire: Charlie? Where's Charlie?

Sayid: Claire.

Claire: What? Where's Charlie?

[Sayid looks around helplessly. Desmond steps forward.]

Desmond: Claire, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.

Danielle: Look! The ship!

[The lights from the freighter can be seen in the distance.]

[Locke makes his way purposefully through the jungle swinging the lantern.
He comes to the powder he had to cross to get to Jacob's cabin. He steps
across the powder line, looks down at it for a moment, and smashes the lamp
against it. A wall of fire rages forth that spreads towards Jacob's cabin. Walt
emerges from the jungle and takes Locke's hand. They look at each other
and smile, their faces illuminated by the flames.]

Walt: Come on. You still have work to do.

[Walt leads Locke away from the flames into the jungle behind them.]

[Back on the beach, the group is dealing with a mixture of sorrow and
elation. Most of the attention is focused on Claire. Sawyer looks up and sees
the freighter turning away from their side of the island.]

Sawyer: What the – [he notices the flames and smoke coming from another
part of the island] – Son of a bitch!

Hurley: Oh no. No, no, no . . .

FADE OUT – Run end credits.

Friend or Foe

Opening scene: Inside a board room, many people sitting at a long time that we see length-wise. Lots of people talking over each other, no one seems to be agreeing about anything.
“ After all of the money and time we’ve wasted, do you really think its wise to drop another billion dollars looking for something that may not even exist?” asks one older man in glasses near the end of the table
“ I agree” says a younger man sitting next to him. “ We’ve spent years on this project and its going nowhere. Its time to turn our attention elsewhere.”
Pan down to the head of the table. A familiar voice chimes in, “ If my daughter Penelope believes that she can find this Island with her limited resources, than we’re not going to stop trying.” proclaims Charles Widmore.
An intercom buzzes and another man joins the room. He rushes to Mr. Widmore. “ Sir, contact has been made with someone who claims to have Naomi’s phone.”
“Whose Naomi?” Mr. Widmore asks
“She’s the woman that parachuted from the freighter to the Island, sir. She must’ve made it, because a man by the name of Jack Shepard claimed that he was a survivor of Oceanic 815 and asked our men if they could get a fix on the location. They’re close to reaching the Island as we speak.”
“Very good. I need minute by minute updates, do you understand?” Mr. Widmore ordered.
Back to the radio Tower. Everyone is joyous at the news that rescue could be on hand. People are hugging, tears well up in a few people’s eyes.
“Let’s not get too excited . They haven’t found us yet,” Jack the pessimist said.
“ Have you told Hurley and everyone at the beach yet?” Kate asks
“Not yet, I’m about to. Then we’re going to trek back to the beach so we can all be together if they do show up,” Jack explains.
“When you tell them, ask if Charlie’s made it back yet, will you?” Claire requests, half happy, half worried.
“I’m sure he’s fine Claire. He managed to turn off the jamming device. I’ll ask anyway.” Jack says. “ Hurley, come in. “
“I’m here, what’s up?” Hurley answers.
“We’ve made contact with Naomi’s boat, they’re trying to get a fix on our location. I need for you guys to stay on the beach and we’re going to start walking back. If I here from the boat again, I’ll let you know.” proclaims Jack. Jack turns off the walkie and tells everyone its time to head back. Camera turns to Ben with a defiant look on his face.
“Jack, I’m not going to the beach with you. Kill me here and get it over with.” Ben declares. Alex and Danielle drag Ben away as the camera zooms in on Ben’s face.
[Flashback] Ben is in what looks to be his office at the Barracks. Pickett, his wife Colleen and 3 “Others” we’ve never met are standing around Ben’s desk.
“Ben, you know we’ve wanted to have a baby for awhile now. And the only way we can do that is to leave the island until the baby’s born. Then we’d be right back.” an emotional Colleen cries.
“Oh, would you be right back?” Ben sarcastically replies.
“Ben, keeping us here against our will isn’t doing you or the Island any good. Nobody wants to leave forever, we just need to see the outside world, see our families for awhile,” says a middle aged man standing next to Pickett.
“Dale, I’ve explained this already. I need you all here now. Jacob needs you all here now. Now is not the time for me to be assigning vacations. When the time is right, I will let you see your families and the outside world again. But that time isn’t now.” Ben decrees
“If you wont let us leave and you just keep us here by hanging Jacob over our heads, whose to say how much longer we’ll even want to be a part of this thing. I for one, am pretty sick of this damn island and everything that goes with it,” Dale admits in a rather harsh tone.
Cut to Ben’s face, with a mixture of intrigue and anger both showing [End flashback]
We then go to The Looking Glass where Desmond has just watched Charlie drown. He runs from the door to look for Mikhail’s scuba gear, which is missing. Before Desmond leaves, he runs to check on Bonnie.
“Are you going to make it, miss?” Desmond whispers to Bonnie
“No, I’m dying.” Bonnie mutters
“Hold onto me, I’m going to help you swim to the top. We’ve got a doctor back at the beach, he can help you” Desmond instructs.
“No, leave me. I won’t make it” Bonnie whispers.
Desmond takes one last look at Bonnie and at the rest of The Looking Glass before diving into the moon pool and swimming to the top. We cut with Desmond reaching the boat he dove down from.
Cut to the jungle. Locke is sitting on the wing of the small plan that brought Yemi and the smugglers to the Island. The plane is just to the right of the entrance to the Pearl. Locke stands up and walks towards where Mr. Eko was buried. Locke drops to one knee.
“Mr. Eko, I still don’t understand why the Island chose to take your life. I’m sure there was a reason, I just wish it didn’t have to be.” Locke stands up and walks to the Pearl’s entrance. He opens the doors and proceeds to climb down the ladder. When he hits the bottom, he walks over to the TV’s and flips them all on. At first he sees nothing worth noting on any of the screens, some of the screens don’t even work anymore. The TV in the bottom right corner is showing Locke, standing there watching the other screens. He sees himself and then looks at the other screens before looking back to the screen he’s on. This time, Walt was next to him on the screen. He looks down and Walt is standing in the Pearl next to him.
“John, now is the time. You’ve got more work to do and then you can talk to Jacob” Walt informs Locke.
End scene with Locke’ s reaction.
Back to the jungle, Jack and the gang are making progress. Kate and Sun are in the middle of the pack and Kate is asking Sun questions about her pregnancy, how she’s feeling, etc. Sun tells Kate about certain food cravings she’s been having, which makes Kate laugh. They begin swapping stories about things they miss back home when Kate turns away from Sun and begins vomiting. Sun stops to check on Kate, which draws Dr. Jack’s attention.
“Kate, what’s wrong?” Jack asks
“Nothing, I’m fine Jack.”
“Have you been feeling bad for long? Any headaches, fever, …”
Kate cuts Jack off. “Really Jack, I’m fine. I just need some water”
Ben walks past them and says “I know what’s wrong with Kate. She’s pregnant Jack”
“Oh, yeah? And how exactly do you know that?” Jack questions
“Well” Danielle catches Ben with a hard stomach punch before he can finish. Camera focuses in on a pained expression on B
