Does anyone remember seeing Smokie between 1974 and 1977? Other than in FF's or FB's, I can't remember seeing it. The DI people wander around the forest and only seem to be worried about the Hostiles. They built the sonic fence to keep them out, no mention of Smokie, the Monster, or anything along those lines. Just a guess here, maybe "The Incident" was when Smokie got released or created?

Another thought. Could Richard have once been the leader of the Others? Maybe he moved the Island way back when, and like Ben was no longer allowed to lead. He could have been replaced by Jacob. Possibly he got back to the Island on the Black Rock. Maybe he knew where the Island would be and made sure the Black Rock was where it was coming up. I think the Island came up under the Ship which is why it is located in the middle of the forest rather than on the shore.

Any thoughts on this?

"Mr X." is one of the many code names for "Jacob's Enemy." Expect to see it a lot until we get some info on Season 6.

They half hazardly mention Smokey.

In LaFluer when Richard barged into Dharmaville, Horace said they would've turned the fence off for him, but Richard said "your fence may keep out some things but it doesn't keep us out", so I think Smokey was present in the 70s. Plus, the Monster is obviously a sentient being, just not going to be created from a nuke goin off.
