View Full Version : The single greatest Lost moment... EVER

We've all got favorite characters, favorite seasons, favorite episodes, favorite scenes, but what is your single most favorite Lost moment?
Maybe its one line of dialogue, maybe it was Jack fighting Ethan, maybe it was Sawyer, Jin and Mikey getting battered by Eko at the end of Adrift, maybe it was The Others seeing the plane break up in A Tale Of Two Cities.
I realize I start these "Whats your fav..." topics quite a bit, its probably quite annoying, but I think picking one single moment that you would call your favourite is pretty challenging and hasnt been done in our dark little corner of Lostpedia.
If I was to pick one moment that made me think "F**k me, this show is a gift to humanity from the practical joker we call God" it'd be Eko staring down The Smoke.

Very good.
I do admit that Jack FIGHTING Ethan was pretty good, Ethan PWNS!, but not the greatest moment in the shows history.
Three moments I'll throw out there to get the convo going are:
The Pilot: From that first pan around Jack to reveal the chaos of the crash to when the wing explodes with a piece landing RIGHT next to Charlie and him giving a "WTF..........did that nearly.......WTF" look around.
The Other 48 Days: Serene beach scene, you start hearing a noise, suddenly half a plane drops into the shot, all smoking and freaky, and a plane seat comes at the camera.
Man Of Science, Man Of Faith: The whole "Play Your Own Kind Of Music" sequence.

You turned my brown eye blue with that one.
(Family Guy reference).
Desmond turning the failsafe key gets honourable mention from me because it created so much speculation (in my head, atleast) about what would happen next.

The single greatest moment... I will go for
Desmond hears Locke pounding on the hatch door. Then they are connected by the beam of light. As it was the climax of two great scenes, Desmond's Depression and Locke Lamenting.

Good one. Although I have a question, which particular one did you prefer, Locke banging on the hatch and the mysterious light coming on or seeing Desmond turn on the light, knowing the story behind it.

There's just sooooooo many!
That what's makes it a great show :D
For me though, I aways remember (2nd ever episode?) when Sayid and few others went to get a signal and picked up the message (we didn't know who by at the time) that had been playing for 15 years.....
That just made me think, "WTF is going on here?!!!"
I was hooked !!!
But other's that spring to mind was Ethan's evilness and discovering he wasn't one of the Losties and when Walt got abducted.
Then there was the four toed statue:eek:

It was indeed the 2nd episode, part two of the pilot.
Locke's "DONT TELL ME WHAT I CAN DO EVER!! THIS IS MY DESTINY! ITS MY DESTINY!!!" freak out at the walkabout office was awesome too, O'Quinn was born to play John Locke.

Maybe a Jin/Sun moment? Actually, that's highly unlikely.

As much chance of it being a Pikki moment anyway. ;) .

You better *shakes fist*.
Although we're currently up-to-date with you guys. But I guess thats ends soon. Bummer.
The moment they/we realized there were "Others".
Would that be Hugo telling Jack that Ethan wasnt on the manifest or Ethan, in all his weirdness, stalking Claire and Charlie? or both, including Sayid saying "We're not alone!" Quite the coincidence how all of that come together at around about the same time.

I'd say the build up to Desmond turning on the light, with him ready to kill himself and then reading the letter from Penny. And then of course the actual turning on of the light.

Me too. Its interesting though that they both restored each others faith without knowing it. I mean, obviously they knew there was someone else out there, but I dont think Locke ever realize he saved Desmonds life (although, Desmond did tell him before turning the failsafe, "You saved my life, so I could save yours,") and I definitely dont think Desmond knew that Locke was losing his faith in the island.
I think its a shame The Swan is gone, since it was such an important part of the first two seasons, aside from it giving Desmond the power of preminition it almost seems as if it was pointless, although without The Swan we probably would have Desmond, and we wouldnt know much about Dharma, and the producers have said that the reprecussions for Desmond turning the failsafe will be massive which will be interesting, assuming its not just seeing Charlie dying.
Thats probably all mumbly, I'm very tired. I was up until 3 last night rewatching the pilot episodes.

What about when Sayid kicked the sh*t out of Ben and even though he was badly hurt , he still managed to give Sayid that "psycho look":D

I think those are two of my favorites also.
I'd also add the first times we have the monster show up when it pulls the pilot out of the plane, and the night scene at the beach when they hear/see it moving through the jungle. Those scenes may seem kind of passe now, especially for those that know what's been going on or joined the series partway through. But they had a big impact on me, watching from the beginning. I knew there was going to be strange things going on before the show began, but those two scenes really gave me the "WTF?!!" reaction.

Oh yeah, Ben in the cupboard gave us some wonderful moments. "He's a great man, a wonderful man, but not a forgiving me." and "I was coming here John, I was coming for you." Being two of my favs. And Ben owning Ana Lucia.

I too have to go for "Ben in the cupboard", he was IMHO, the best character in the show when he was in there, (now I just feel he's dull by comparison). Also, I loved the scene where he was settling down for his 'Dharma-bix' after he'd sent Ana Lucia et al looking for his baloon, and he's all: "of course if I was this man you think I am" or something like that, that's my favourite Lost moment for sure.

Indeed, Emerson stole the show and him and O'Quinn was guarantee'd TV goodness. His performance was so good they made him a regular, maybe they shouldnt have, I'd have rather remember Ben/Henry as that awesome character who was in the last six or so episodes of season two than the dull guy with the tumor in season three.

i wouldnt want to see the end of henry not until we see some flashback action of him at least.
my favourite moment was the cost of living, eko dying was sad but all the epic smoke monster action was top notch. the opening of tale of two cities was genius as well

I have two favourite Henry Gale moments:
1) He tells John that he never entered the numbers and John accuses him of lying but Henry just says, calmy and straighforward, "No, I'm done lying" The delivery of that line is just class.
2) John's pounding on the door asking Henry whether he entered the numbers and we move up to see that delighted little smile on Henry's lips.
I do agree that Henry has lost some of his menace as Ben in season three. Come on man, give us some calculated evil.
It's possible that Henry would have been more effective if he had been killed at the end of season two. He would have remained this mysterious menace that had a huge impact, but that we never learned anything about.

Indeed, the "I did not ask for this life, but with it I have done my best" "You speak to me as if I were your brother" scene was excellent.

I quite like those comedic relief sort of moments, one that springs to mind is s02e16 - The Whole Truth (http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/The_Whole_Truth), Benry is currently prisoner in the Swan.
Jack steps out the shower, and there's Locke cool as a cumcumber having a shave - Jack must be thinking WTF you doin in here? gimme some privacy dude!
I enjoyed Eko's scenes too - his death scene was mint, and in 'The 23rd Psalm' (http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/The_23rd_Psalm) where he takes out 2 guys with one swipe of his machete

Eko's flashbacks are the best. In that scene you mentioned I loved the line "Its true what they say about you, you have no soul." And in Cost Of Living when he butchers those guys in the church and then right before he kills the last one he says "You do not know who I am."
Eko~!

That was awesome, hence the quotage in my sig. I had built Patchy up to be something really special after seeing him for only a few seconds in The Pearl feed, I was worried he wouldnt live up to it, but he certainly did.
