View Full Version : Bad behavior

Yesterday, a thread I started to discuss Desmond's Whiskey was hijacked by petty arguments and sniping. The arguments were allowed to continue until the thread was overrun with them, and then locked.

Instead of taking that approach, which punishes the people in the thread who are on topic as much as those who are engaged in a flame war, why not simply delete personal attacks, warn violators not to do it again and temporarily ban repeat offenders?

That way a few bad apples can't ruin entire threads for the rest of us. As it is, I feel like my topic was never fully explored and now it probably never will be.

Yeah, I tried to get things back in-topic, but we had to close the thread temporarily for the flaming to stop, we'll open it back in a few minutes.

I'm very sorry for that exchange yesterday. I think my mommy defenses against playground bullies kicked in. :o I'm very glad to see everything was deleted. I'd like to suggest that all off-topic comments about the fight be deleted, too. I know those posts aren't breaking any of the rules, but I feel they are still distracting from hipnerd's thoughtful insights, as people who "missed" the whole mess are still left wondering what they missed and might continue to post about it. Again, I apologize. Thanks.
