Yesterday, a thread I started to discuss Desmond's Whiskey was hijacked by petty arguments and sniping. The arguments were allowed to continue until the thread was overrun with them, and then locked.
Instead of taking that approach, which punishes the people in the thread who are on topic as much as those who are engaged in a flame war, why not simply delete personal attacks, warn violators not to do it again and temporarily ban repeat offenders?
That way a few bad apples can't ruin entire threads for the rest of us. As it is, I feel like my topic was never fully explored and now it probably never will be.
