I finally completed my full Rush Chronology and I am super happy. My father played rush from when I was in the womb until the day I left home, and guess what, I became a musician. So I was wondering if anyone else here is familiar with Rush, past a passing glance. I say that their 80's cd's were the top, as opposed to the 70's and 90's. When they brought in major synths and strayed from the sci-fi lyrics, it just came together. But i Might be biased, since I grew up in the 80's. Anyone else like Rush?

Ohhhh, okay, Rush, I know who you're talking about. I saw you mention Rush in another thread and I didn't make the connection. Yes, Rush, the metal band from the 80's. I barely remember that I had a cassette called "White Hot: Masters of Metal" and it had a song on it by Rush that I really liked. Now I can't remember what it was called. That was about 20 years ago. ;)

I'm old... Ha not even half as old as some of the people on here. And yes others may say my love of Rush comes a decade too late, but I bite my thumb at those types of people. Yes RUSH. They do RULE.

how funny. ok dec 18th, last day of finals, my train leaves the 20th. what do I do? I get drunk and play guitar heroes 2 in my living room. What song do I play first time around? yyz. and guess what?? Alex liefson and geddy lee can kiss my ass cause I RIPPED it. I murdered that song, I guess cause I know it by heart. Once I learned Neil Pearts drums to the song, the rest was childs play. I guess drummers do do it better. Sorry to everyone else....:(

Rush is amazing, although I do think that 2112 was their best. Neil Peart is one of the best drummers in the world, and i'm really diggin the paragon series, although i have zildjian k's right now (cymbals). I'm guessing you play drums?

Rush...Tom Sawyer, Closer to the Heart, 2112...heck yeah, my dad raised me on them, brotha. Neil Pert may be the best drummer of all time. One of my favorites...How 'bout Jethro Tull? Any Ian Anderson fans out there?

About a year ago I had all of the Jethro Tull records taped to my wall, but then they fell :( I still think the best band in the world is Muse though.

Only heard a couple Muse songs, but I liked what I heard. So do you like neo-prog rock bands like Coheed and Cambria and The Mars Volta? They're not my favorites, but they do have some pretty cool songs...

I'm a big Rush fan from way back (well, I wasn't born until 4 years after their first album or so, so not THAT way back) - but listening to Rush is what taught me to play bass. I'm no Geddy Lee, but an inspired and quite satisfied musician for the most part =0)

I'm also a huge fan of acts like Porcupine Tree (surpassed Rush as my favorite band ever!), King Crimson and Ozric Tentacles. Loved the first Mars Volta album, didn't like Frances the Mute nearly as much.

Frances the Mute grows on you a lot! i felt that way at first too, but then i saw them live and the "Frances the Mute" songs sounded sooo much better than those from "Deloused in the Comatorium."

Ha the first time I heard Coheed I thought it was Michael Jackson, but that was way back in like 02 or 03, before Second Stage Turbine blade came out. They used to be one of my favorite bands, alot of people compared them to Rush early on, but they kinda got a little wierd later on. I'm not a fan of the mars volta though, my old singer was really into them and the blood brothers and I just can't get down with that crazy stuff.
tiramealasaranas2005: How are the Paragon series? I only use Zildjian cymbals, aren't the paragons sabian or paiste? Yeah the first time I saw them at guitar center I freaked though, anything that Neil Peart is behind is good in my book.

How did you mistake coheed with michael jackson?

The begining of "everything evil" sounds like michael jackson, it was the highest singing voice I'd ever heard since good old mike. Honest mistake though.

I don't own any paragons. Like you, I only play zildjians, they are the best by far. I like the paragon splash a lot, but the zildjian k custom 10 inch is much better. And yeah, paragons were designed by sabian with the help of neil peart. I'm glad theres another drummer on here!

I know this was an old thread but I'm bored tonight so i'm going thru lots of stuff. I've been a Rush fan since 2112- love Farewell to Kings, Moving Pictures, Hemispheres, Signals, -I also like the later ones, especially Roll the Bones. Rush told stories-sort of like Lost for rock music. My brother and I would research the background of the songs-Ann Rand, the greek myths, bastille day. He plays bass so I would bring him to see Rush every year for his birthday.
Love jethro tull too. I'm a keyboard player who started out playing classical music so the old 70's bands with classical influence were great for me.

I like Rush. I was born after they were popular, but I own a Neil Pert instructional DVD for drummers.

Rush is a truly great band and one of my favorites of all time. Their sound is unmatched and the level of musical intensity and complexity they get out of a 3-man ensemble is astounding.

I agree that their 80s work was top notch, but I still love the 70s classics just as much.

Also, I think Alex Lifeson is one of the most underrated guitar players of all time. That guy can rip.

I thought you were talking about Rush Limbaugh. I was going to go off on you. He is from my town and I am proud to say that he flunked out of my alma mater.

Rush is awesome
as a drummer, it's always entertaining and challenging to listen Neil's parts, and as a whole, the band is pure genuis, Neil's lyrics are wonderful too

I hope the rumors of a Rush concert in Chile are true
And it would be on May 1st...The Working Man's day!!!

I may or may not have thoroughly embarrassed myself this morning when I mentioned to Dave that I thought the singer for Rush was a woman :o His exact words to me, "I don't think this is gonna work out"
