HA! Look at that, my first POLL! :)

Well, I was going to try my hand at doing a POLL, but I couldn't figure it out. :) So, I'm wondering about TATTOOS. Seeing as how one of our first LOST epi's after the break is supposedly going to tell us what Jack's tattoo means, I thought we could share tattoo stories.

How many of you's have tattoos? How many tattoos do you have? Do you want more tattoos?

I have 2 tattoos~ a very small letter J on the inside of my left middle finger. And a ring of 4 small Rasta Flowers w/ vines and leaves that wraps around my belly button. http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e352/BMW-1/th_Angieendingweek16III10-07-04.jpg (http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e352/BMW-1/Angieendingweek16III10-07-04.jpg)(I was 16 weeks pregnant in this pic)
I've been wanting another for a long time, I just can't decide what to get, or where to put it!

OK, who's next? http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e352/BMW-1/LOST%20STUFF/th_tattoo.gif (http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e352/BMW-1/LOST%20STUFF/tattoo.gif)

Well, I'm no Rolls Rocye. ;) I have one tattoo on my right calf, a bit bigger than the palm of my hand. I have attached a pic.

I plan to get a smaller Aquarius symbol on my chest (middle of left pec), and, if I'm brave enough, rich enough, and have it designed well enough, it would be awesome to get a masked cyborg angel on my right shoulder blade... but that'll take some work.

I've got a claddagh on my left upper arm (I'll try to find a pic). My wife and I both got claddagh tattoos on our first anniversary. Hers is all dainty and mine is a little more masculine.

I'd love to get several more...just need to find the time to pick something out worthwhile.

I have a small heart w/ a ribbon on my ankle that I did myself, YEARS ago, back in junior high with a straight pin and indian ink. :D

I recently had a stillborn baby though and I'm going to get it fixed and made into a butterfly to remind me of her. My sis's new boyfriend is a tat artist and offered to do it for free for me!!!

Such a cool idea! I would love to do that w/ my hubby, but he's a MAJOR wimp!! He's got this thing about needles, but he also has a nipple piercing, so go figure!

I have five.

Chinese symbol for friendship on my right upper arm.
A Rose with two hearts entwined on my right shoulder (my first one)
A rose with a celtic design underneath on my left shoulder
Four feathers on my left thigh
A dolphin on my right inner calf.

I'm trying to pluck up the courage to have the tops of my feet done. I'd also like to have something inside my wrist.

My husband wants to get a tatoo, but he's not exactly the tatto type so I think it has to be handled very carefully. He wants something relating to our little one - like her handprint - but I think he's being too literal. Designs are under way and any help/suggestions would be welcome.

I think a handprint is a cool idea, actually. I saw a Miami Ink in which a father got his children to write their names and the artist traced over them. I think that's kinda neat, if your child can write...and write legibly. What age is your child? Boy/girl?

I'm a banker and and keep a very conservative appearance and I've got a tat. I heard a survey that about 1/3 of Americans under the age of 40 have one...so there are a lot of people who aren't the tattoo type who have tattoos. Once you get one...you usually want more. I bet if he gets one, he'll get 2 or 3.

One last thing, as far as the pain goes, it all depends on where he gets it. My artist told me to use the sunburn test. Tattoos will hurt more in places on your body that would kill you to have sunburned...belly, underarm, etc.

Oooooh~ So close! Actually, it was a mid-night game of croquet and well..... Let's just say that a frog has no business on a croquet field in the middle of the night! :o

The hand print is TOTALLY doable. My sister-in-law is going to get her son's foot prints on the back of her shoulder. If you want the detail of the lines and such, they just have to enlarge it some before placing. I like the idea of her hands being 'around' his heart w/ her name and DOB maybe? Kinda like butterfly wings, w/ the thumbs touching and the fingers splayed out.... Hard to explain, but it looks good in my head!

Maybe it's because of your avatar but I just pictured that scene from Alice in Wonderland, where they are playing with upside-down flamingos. :)

Yes! It was totally an Alice in Wonderland moment! I'll never live it down. Good thing it was a Jamaican frog, he was probably so stoned, he didn't know what hit (my foot! :o ) him!

I can't wait to hear what your hubby thinks. I also watch Miami Ink and saw the epi that the pp mentioned. That guys baby feet tattoo turned out sooooo good! I wish my hubby would do something like that, but his a weenie! :p

I have an irrational fear of needles, so a tattoo is out of the question. I have an eye disease and when they were first diagnosing it in fourth grade, they gave me a ton of blood tests. And the nurse was doing it for her first time, so she ended up putting it in my arm wrong, and instead of taking it out and replacing it correctly, she just wiggled it around!!!! I have been terrified of needles ever since.

I have two at this moment.

One on the outside of my left thigh, it's a cute little blue bird and I have my Virgo symbol on my shoulder blade.

I plan to get more but I have three designs and have not narrowed it down. I don't want to get all three

I think I will have a vote with my friends and the top two will make it somewhere on my body :D

Hmmmm. I dont know whether I want one. I think some of them look cool. But I have heard some people say they really, really hurt. Its not like I have a fear of needles or anything but if its very painful I think I will give it a miss when Im old enough.

I don't have any tattoos. A couple months ago I was going to get a lily with the words -saku- under it, on my right shoulder blade.
BUT, I changed my mind.
Which is probably why I'll never get a tattoo.
I change my mind too much. :\

Tattoos are worth it. Sure they hurt, but you get something special and personal permanently making you more unique. I'm needle-phobic and certainly no masochist, but I'd do it all again, no doubt! You'll hurt for an hour, and love it for the rest of your life!

Arm bands are really cool. Just make sure you design it your self or something, so that way you know for SURE that it's gonna be a one and only.

How old do you have to be in England and Canada to get inked? I think it's 18 in every state that allows tattoos here.

Well, there's unlimited potential for you to personalize a thing like that... like making it come around and wrap around a design/symbol of your choosing in the centre of your arm... or whatever! You should be making sketches and play with it a whole lot before settling on something.

I've got, if counted individually, some 20 tattoos... but most are smaller parts of larger pieces, so I just count them as "every limb, plus my front, back, and one hand is tattooed." I was actually a tattooist for a few years myself, and the person who steered me that way was none other than my lady Freckles - that was 9 years ago and we weren't really romantically involved until last year. I did a few of hers, even, and she has a bunch.

I am getting some of my lesser-quality ones lasered though, will cover them up with better art when light enough. THAT costs much more in dollars and pain than getting the tats in the first place, but I was more concerned with giving good tats than getting good tats at the time I got most of them.

I've got, if counted individually, some 20 tattoos... but most are smaller parts of larger pieces, so I just count them as "every limb, plus my front, back, and one hand is tattooed." yin yang-inner right forearm

moon & star around navel (counts as 1)

Flowery tribal thing-small of back (Dave did this one)

Awesome purple scrolly armband with egyptian "goddess" symbol-left bicep (Dave did this one, and it's my favorite to this day!)

H.R. Giger alien baby-right calf (Dave did this one)

Hello Kitty-left ankle (que "one of these things is not like the other...") (Dave did this one for free cus he had a crush on me :D )

Eye of Rah-mid back

"K" right wrist, "L" left wrist (got them together, but I count them as 2)

Chinese "Little Sister" right bicep

Chinese "Mother" and "Soldier" under the other chinese ones

Two sets of two cherries, one just under each clavical (Dave hates these)

HA! I thought for sure mine eyes where deceiving me!! Glad to see you on again. I think you started your own hiatus shortly after I joined. I so enjoyed reading your thoughts on the show!! *Look out new members, Freckles is one smart cookie!!*

I took a look @ your page. Great tatts!! I don't see how Dave doesn't like the cherries~ they make such great targets!!! :p I'm a myspace looser and only have like 8 friends or something like that, so I sent you a friends request. (that is IF I did it correctly!)

Great to see you here again though. Hopefully you'll get to come hang out when the fun is happening! ;)

PS. to Dave~
Is that a six string your playing? My hubby's 'lady' is a light colored wood 4 string Ibeneze (I'm sure I butchered that spelling!!) He's also got a 5 string 'clunker' as he calls it. I think it's the same maker as the new one.

Sorry for bumping an old thread but I'm a really big fan of tattoos. I've got 2 that I've designed. The first one I have is on my upper right arm is a tribal-ish sun with the chinese symbol for Happiness in the middle. My other one is a Nautical Star with flames coming down from the bottom of it, it's on the back of my left arm. Just above my elbow. There's a bunch more that I want, namely a big oriental dragon probably on my arm.

has anyone had laser treatment to remove a tattoo?

I have, somewhat extensively. Feel free to spill all the details of the tattoo (size, age, colors, current integrity versus new) and I can give you an idea of what you'd be in for.

Basically it's FAR more painful and expensive to get them off than on.

beezly
02-01-2007, 09:20 PM
it's about 2 inches...outline of a five point star (the inside is not filled)...black ink.
age is about 5 or 6 years.
the color hasn't really faded or the ink hasn't really bleed outside of the lines.
it's smack on the inner side of the ankle...meaning it's on a bony area...not a whole lot of flesh around there.

imaginarydave
02-01-2007, 10:03 PM
ah, simple then!

Black is actually the easiest color to remove, I assume because of the higher contrast to the skin (yellow and white are the toughest)...

Basically, they use a Q-switched YAG laser and will trace the line, pulsing the laser a couple times a second. The laser goes through the top layers of skin and when it hits the ink, it heats it up to its "exploding" point. Then the ink particles shatter, and are carted through your system to be expelled as waste (which takes time, and is why it's not an instant removal - you're really just vastly accelerating the deterioration that would happen over time anyway).

It hurts a fair bit - like a rubberband snap over and over, and because the pulses aren't continuous like a tattoo needle, your skin has that fraction of a second to relax in between - which means the snap is a brand new "ow" every time it pulses. You can use a topical gel an hour beforehand to try to numb the area, or if you're feeling adventurous, they can inject a similar solution and you won't feel a thing - but I personally had a weird reaction to the injections in a couple places.

Interestingly, have your surgeon run the laser across an uninked part of skin if you like - you can almost not feel it at all, as there's nothing for the laser to ram into. That's why there isn't much, if any, scarring - it doesn't actually hurt the skin layers themselves.

Most tattoo removals happen over 6-10 sessions, spaced a month to 2 months apart for maximum fading in between. Each session is a few hundred dollars.

Your tattoo, as described, may only take 2 or 3 sessions, especially if you have extra time to wait in between, and each session should only be about $200, if that. Pure speculation, of course, as *I* get so much removed per session it runs me 7 to 800 each time I go.

I know a great guy for it here in the DC area, but you're in Chicago... Just make sure you get an actual doctor, with a good rep and track record. It's a form of cosmetic surgery, after all.

Hope this helps!
Dave

Waterlily, I'm very sorry about your loss. I couldn't imagine anything more tragic. :( {{hugs}}

Whew, rough segue into tattoo talk! ...Anyway, there isn't an answer for my option. It's not needles or pain for me (I've had two children for gods' sake! ;)), but tattoos are just not my "thing." I think at 32, I sort of missed the wave where "everyone" in their twenties seems to have them nowadays. All of my younger cousins do, and it's almost like a given for any college-aged person to get them now. I really don't understand how/when/why that happened, but somehow I missed the memo. :D ;)

I don't blame ya. It doesn't sound worth all the pain to me. I can handle getting tattoos no problem, but I've seen Dave right after getting the laser treatment, and no thank you...

Cap'n, cap'n, cap'n... If you only had enough for three letters, you could have gotten the L on one cheek, and the S and T on the other cheek....

Anyways, If I get time I'll try that L/M thing for ya, Kittylili. Not sure what you mean by "turning them just the right way" but I can def. give it a shot. I am currently working on art for a video game that is in production, and just finished a book cover and a painting for a friend.

I'm not going to toot my own horn because I have an actual slice of humility, but if anyone would like to see the very limited selection of stuff I have online, hit up http://www.absolutearts.com/portfolios/d/ddixon/

blkmrkt - I really like the Alpha and Omega thing. On my inner forearms, I have the Kanji for "Beauty" and "Pain" - the inseparable basics of tattooing, as I see it. (Note: the "pain" character literally translates to "bitter" but it's the closest thing I could find in Chinese.)

Cheers

I only have one and it's unfinished. It's the outline of the crow from the movie. I plan on adding some flames and the words "Buildings burn, people die, but real love is forever" on the inside. It's in the middle of my upper back.

I have ideas for a couple more. I want a fairy on my bicep. I have a really great pic of this fairy with some celtic knotwork that will go around the rest of my arm. I also want a sun and moon, but not really sure where I want it. My husband and I might get the "Aquemini" symbol from the Outkast album done. He's a Gemini and I'm an Aquarius. We figured it'd be better than getting each other's name.

I have a bundle, and I draw lots of flash for my buddy here in Calgary. most of my tattoos are hidden really well right now, with a few exceptions, like a dead bird head and its wing stick out under a button up longsleeve, and a star on my drawing hand..which has been there a LOOOONG time, because until recentlly I was an architectural designer.. bleh, who wants to be in a suit anyways! so I'm thinking of celebrating my independance and working on a possible neck piece in the near future :)

Theres a pinup firl I have to draw this week, with an xray of her bones as an overlay, for my buddies next addition lol.. i dont ask, i just do!..

There should be another option on that poll:
No, I can't afford them

Because there are at least 2 tattoos I would have if it weren't so darn expensive.

I'm more of a piercing person though anyways. But even those I gotta save up for (except my last one, my best friend paid cause she's super special and she made a 10 year wish come true!)

For a decent sized tattoo with pretty colors? Over a hundred, sometimes a couple hundred dollars, depending upon how "good" an artist you go to. Plus tip, which should be equal to 20% of the tattoo cost. So it ain't cheap.

vs. $35-75 for a piercing plus tip. Still not cheap, but cheaper.

Oh right. Cool.

He had one priced up at a respectable place and they would charge him about 40 pound.

Which now sounds pretty decent.

Sometimes a couple hundred dollars? Where do I get one that cheap??? The last place I went wanted 100 bucks for an itty bitty tattoo...just to "fix" the one on my back (it's a little faded) I was quoted 400 bucks! I didn't even ask how much extra it would be to add to it as well (which is what I eventually want to do). I'm probably looking at 800-1000 bucks to get what I want! Sure, I have that kind of money to blow...

How much are the tattos that fold in and make a new picture when you push yuor shoulder blades in?

PseuMdoYnym
03-07-2007, 08:51 PM
I didn't think those existed outside of Popeye, but I would guess a TON, because it would be very intricate. Think of tattoos as paying for an original work of art, it's gonna cost a good buck.

I got quoted at this place near me (RI, USA) $90 for two small (like real small) paw prints that were black and white. They actually charge different amounts based on where you want them. Cause this girl wanted them on her chest and she got quoted $60, I wanted them on the underside of each wrist and they told me $90. I decided against it though because of the price and because if I get a tattoo I want it to be unique to me. I've always wanted (not sure where) a Blue Nile Lotus on my back with my name in an Egyptian cartouche next to it (first name in one, then the lotus, then my last name in another). I'm a bit of an Egypt freak (I wanted to be an archaeologist when I was a kid).

But the point of that long message was that it'll probably be significantly more to get a "folding" tattoo. You can always go and get a quote from a shop. A good resource for Body modification information is BMEzine.com
Search through some of the piercing pics, I'm in a couple of different sections! :)

I guessing it would be a good fit for a "folding one". My star (my avatar) was done in 2 sessions. 1st session was the black part of the star no other colors and no flames and that was $50. Then the red in the star and the blue flames was done the 2nd time. That was $90. It all depends on the artist really.

I was fortunate in that I composed both of my tats on my computer and that they are both black...pretty cheap. The biggest deal with an artist is making sure that they can physically do the work that you want. You are going to get raped on the price if you go in to a parlor looking for a tree frog tattooed on you ankle, butterfly on your lower back, cross on your shoulder, etc. If you have an origional idea and are willing to do some leg work, you can find somebody who will shoot you straight. I am with you on the Miami Ink guys; that crew is legit. I plan to get my inner bicep piece next week at the Palms, which will definately be overpriced but quality.

Ew I hate keloids. I've got a *small* one forming on my nose right now. I'm sea salt soaking it nightly so hopefully it will disappear. I'll cry if I have to take my nose ring out, I've only had it for 2 months and I waited 10 yeras to get it done. . .

I've thought several times about getting my eyebrow pierced before but never have.

Um, the only thing that hurt were the nipples. And really, it wasn't too bad. When he did the first one I felt like someone had just put a white hot poker through me, it HURT. But it only hurt for about 2-3 seconds, then the endorphins kicked in and I was good. The second one I barely noticed at that point, I think because of the shock from having the first one done.

My tonuge was completely and utterly painless. I didn't even know she had pierced it. All of a sudden she's like "ok I'm putting the jewlery in now" and I was sitting there thinking "wtf? Where was I when you pierced it?"

My nose hurt just a pinch, nothing worse than a doctor's shot.

My upper ear piercings were kinda painful, not as bad as the nips though, but not fun. Especially cause you can hear the crunch the cartilege makes. I want to get my conches pierced (through the outside part of the inner ear, vs. the lobe of the ear, it's a cart. piercing) even though I'm crazy scared of the pain.

I've never had my eyebrow done, but my best friend got her's done when I got my nose done (3 of us went and we each got something different pierced, it was buy 2 get the 3rd free, and I got the freebie :) ). She said that it hurt a good deal, but (no offense Mal I love you) she's a big giant woosey. So I wouldn't worry.

I find I always get supper freaked about it, and then the pain is never really as bad as I had imagined. It only lasts a few seconds, and once it's all said and done all it is is a memory.

on my calf i have a skull, two crossed american flags, and two rifles with a banner that says "not in my name" referencing my feelings on the shift in our (being the US) foreign relations policy in the last 60 years from "the will of the people" to "the will of the corporations"

on my shin i have a pretzel, with two crossed pretzel sticks so that it looks sort of like a jolly roger skull and crossbones with blood and cheese splashing out from behind it with a banner that says "Pretzel", because i'm from Hanover, PA, where they make Snyder's Pretzels, as well as about 6 other types of pretzels that are only locally distributed (Freckle's should know Utz, the best f*ckin chips ever)

i have a small, green, cartoonish shark on the inside of my leg, just below the knee which i got for no reason at all, and it doesn't fit with the tattoo style that i'm going to have covering that leg, so it's getting covered by...

an octopus, which will be just below my kneecap, just above my pretzel, and the legs will drape down either side of my leg. on one side i will have an ink cloud with chinese stylized waves at the edges (this will be covering the shark), and on the right the legs will be wrapped around an anchor. I like octopuses, the ink represents the past, and the anchor represents finally being grounded and stable in my life.

Tool does F***in Rule!!!

Ive said before how many tattoos I have, there are 13 pitch black stars(there are more within other tattoos though, maybe 20 total?) around my body, a sun on my stomach(which we are turning into one of those old fashion bombs from old cartoons in 2 weeks ;)). I have a decaying zombie girl coming down my right shoulder, her torso has been eaten.. its creepy. There is a wishbone and a flaming black heart on my wrist/sleeve. And then my favourite is my dead bird on my right arm, which was for my cat who died.. used to bring me dead birds all the time, and it turned me veggie so that he could continue the killing and I wouldnt feel bad about the loss of souls lol.

Also a few weeks ago I got a big black rooster tattooed on my side between a constellation of stars, he has another 5 stars built within the feathers, but there is no fill yet, its about 2/3rds the size of a real rooster, and he too has X's through his eyes like my arm bird.

I draw LOTS of tattoos for my buddies at www.deadlytattoos.com and they are amazing Tat artists!

I've also tattooed my own left thigh, and every now and then I add to it, there are squid tentacles, and old oriental style colouring, but I'm one of the only people who know its there.. shh ;) A few months ago I tattooed the punisher (not the symbol only, but the punisher with his smoking gun) on a good friends thigh. Hes across Canada right now, but when he gets back I'll take pictures of the healed bit. All my tats I draw myself otherwise I'd feel like a corporate sponsor lol.
I've just started a blog, which so far has only had a few art-ish posts, but soon enough I'll update a lot more of what Ive done, but trying to keep it relevant with when I actually do the work, so you wont find much old stuff there.
www.caperzmob.blogspot.com
Below is my bird, and in August I have an appt to get two birds flying up my back and onto my neck, they will be Cinderella birds, but dead and with X's in their eyes, pulling between them a tattered pirate flag, and the Skull with white swords will be branded(yes like a cows brand) after the tattoo heals as well, which will be neat since that part will be visible above my collar lol.

Are you building to that arm before you peruse other chunks of skin? When we were going over my sketch for the birds and my pirate flag yesterday, the guy was worried about branding my neck, and branding over a tattoo, I called him a pussy and threatened to take it to another artist, and they could do something actually new to someone instead of him, and I reeled him back to reality lol, so now his whole shop is stoked to do it, and they will make my brand and do that part for free because they havent really seen anyone willing to do something new in a looong time, I cant friggin wait, but the searing flesh thing creeps me out a bit lol.. but I like creepy:D

There isn't many feeling in the world better than after your tat is finished and they put they spray on it to clean it. :)

Yessum! I have shoulder tats and I just need the fill inbetween soon, and I've drawn a few things up (there is a decomposing zombie girl on my shoulder right now, so the death theme is going to stick lol). Also I have more on that arm you cant see on the other side of the bird, and stars on the top of my hand, and a red seven of diamonds(full size) on the palm of my hand.. my best friend and I both have it, and the wishbone crossing my wrist me and 3 of my best friends have.. but they are pusses and have it in other less painful spots ;)

I just got an outline for a black rooster on my side, its effing huge, and still wicked scabby, still no fill there, but its almost lifesize, and my whole body has black filled stars of all sizes like alll over... so I think I will be one big sleeve in a few years!

That new neck tat rules! I like how rugged and clean it looks at the same time! Cant wait for my tat day for my neck and back to come.. soon.. almost toooo soon! Whats next for you?!?

what would say was the most painful spot to get a tattoo for you so far? btw with all the tats you have it makes me like a beginner! : ) a death themed sleeve - that would be pretty darn awesome. have you drawn all your own stuff?

thanks bout my tat - it is the coheed and cambria (not sure if you've heard them) symbol, the keywork. I am sure what is up next for me - I need something to fill up my back more. Either some kind of teared flesh exposing "weird" (aka I haven't figured it out yet : ) things inside my spine, or I may do this spiral thing from tool's laterus art work.

p.s. i love that you have a zombie girl on your arm, not only do i love zombies, but living dead girl by rob zombie was my friend and i's theme song in HS so it makes me think of that : )

underthesetears , I have drawn all my own tattoos, and I draw tattoos for my buddies at www.deadlytattoos.com they do awesome work! My buddy James is considered the best in Canada, and one of the tops in N America. Actually the only tattoo I havent drawn is the zombie girl on my sleeve, and thats from the back page of a comic called "The Walking Dead", and she is eaten up to her shoulder, parts of her ribcage and innerds are sticking out, and her heart is still there, also there is chunks of clothing on her shoulders and a brastrap thats been knawed off lol. But unless someone really impresses me I wont let them draw or change my flash, I even draw my own outlines so they dont screw up lol.

I didnt realize it was the C and C logo, thats rad. I just drew the walking hammers from Pink Floyd and my mom got them tattooed around her ankle, they go from little to big.. its neat! I wish I got it lol.. hopefully a new pink floyd tat will be in my future, but alas the process of waiting takes sooo long, and this year I wont be getting much more work after the summer.. unfortunately.

I have def. seen some poorly done tattoos but I went to someone that I was referred to and had seen their work so I knew I could trust him and that he did/does good work.

I am more nervous that I will twitch and ruin it for myself. My back spasmed (totally spelt wrong) before so that made my heart skip a bit.

Yup, I've actually tattooed before, and at one point owned my own equipment, but I'm too a.d.d. to sit still for a few hours to hardly make any progress lol. I'd much rather draw flash and airbrush, or paint.. where i feel like I actually make progress. But the tattoos I've done are every bit as good as the flash I've drawn, and my buddy James invited me to work at 'deadly tattoos' which is kind of an honour here in Calgary. In a few years I may actually get back into it once I settle down some, and right now James is working on my new tattoo gun, it cost me a bundle, but he sets them up so clean and perfect.. I want to finish tattooing my legs myself, or as much as I can see of them anyway. Never know, I have a design degree, a fine arts degree and a bunch of other random stuff.. so I never really know where life is gonna take me next.

And I promised mom I wouldnt fill my whole body before the end of the summer, and decided shes right, so I'll finish my rooster, my cinderella neck birds, and my pirate branding.. and maybe if I can squeeze it in, I'll fill the rest of my right arm... but yeah, Im trying not to make mom too crazy lol.

Curb, the only time someone has screwed anything up was my buddy punched me during a tattoo because I said if he screws up a line on me, I would get to tattoo an anchor on his balls... so now he has an anchor on his package:p.. FOR REAL!!! And generally, I draw all my own linework, so its my fault if the lines arent right because they are essentially following my lead.. and I only go to people I reeeeally trust, luckily I have 4 really close friends who tattoo.

What have you guys heard about Pneumatic guns? I'm not a big fan of photo-realistic tattoos but the July issue off Skin And Ink had a profile of a guy named Mike Devries who uses one and his work portraits are stunning! I'm sure the machine he uses isn't a huge factor in the quality of the work but I was wondering if you guys have heard much about how this effects the process.

P.S. mac_ad, your sig reminds me of the cover from the Fear album "More Beer"

I have to plead complete ignorance on this subject, I don't think I have heard about them before. Is it like airbrushing a tattoo on? I am going to have to look into that, I am very interested to see how it works....

mac_ad
06-21-2007, 02:31 PM
Pneumatic guns are really cool and do awesome fine work, but it comes down to the skill of the person doing it, some of the finest painters in the world only use large brushes and you'd never know, and thats the same with a regular tattoo gun. Also you can set up a Tat gun to work under differesnt stresses and qualities, so again its a matter of preference. But for photorealistic you dont need a pneumatic gun by any means, but if you know how to weild it right it will give you a really clean fully filled tattoo.

And UTH, there is no spot that hurts, it ALL feels good!!!:p But the palm of your hand doesnt feel so great, and the ribs.. not so fun, but I smiled and laughed through it regardless.

I've got one sucky tat that I want to get covered up. I got it on a whim one day with some friends and the guy who did it sucked... it's since been touched up by the guy who does mine now but it still looks bad. I'm covering it eventually.

What is tattoo that you want covered up? Is it a large piece?

Some people do some great cover up work when you eventually get that done. I am covering up/changing one of mine as well just waiting for the idea of what to make it to come into my head. I want to make my back a masterpiece! : )

Barney
06-21-2007, 05:45 PM
It's a sun on my right arm with the kanji for "Happiness" in the middle of it. It's not big and I don't think it would be much trouble to get covered up. I just haven't gotten it done yet.

You have some cool tats. What else are you planning on getting done to your back?

underthesetears
06-21-2007, 05:49 PM
Do you know what you are going to cover it with yet? Are there certain things you draw your tattoo picks from? (ex. most of mine are band related)

Not sure about my back yet, maybe the Tool spiral from Lateralus or "torn" flesh down my spine exposing something - not sure what yet.

I may have to find an artist that could draw something that could incorporate what I already have.

Barney
06-21-2007, 05:59 PM
I'm not sure yet. At one time I wanted to my oriental dragon on that arm but now I kind of want it on my other arm with my star so,... I'm not sure. I'm really attracted to like oriental style and fantasy tats for some reason. The Tool spiral would be really cool.

You know whats funny, is I have a sun on my stomach we are covering, but not because its bad, but because I sorta... hate it :p But the artist wouldnt fill my belly button all the way and it pissed me off, so I told him if he didnt hand me the gun and let me do it myself he wasnt getting any tip whatsoever HAHAHAaa.. sigh. All my friends will tat whatever you like but yo have to live with it lol. I dont know what I want inside my lip yet, Im thinking of getting a mini skull and crossbones, or 3 in a row. That may be before the end of summer too.

Ps.. my buddy has tattoo'd the inside of the "get excited" kind of lips... hah...ahaha... yeah. For Real. I think I just got points for the most un-Mod-like comment of the day, but its strictly the truth!

Piercings, I'm growing out of them now that Im older sadly, but I used to love them. I had a side lip ring and the middle done, but I took them both out last year on my birthday because I felt old :( I pierced the middle one myself.
I pierced my nostril myself, and that was the most painful thing I ever did in my whole life, and I've broken both ankles:p It was with a safety pin when I was 14.. so I've had it for almost.. 12 years  And both my ears are stretched, they use to be 1/2" but now they are some size just over 00 because I didnt want them so big, still i can shove a pen through the earring all the way lol. I had an eyebrow ring as a kid too, but it was so cliche and started catching on, so I took it out... it too oozed for a while, but I never did the nipple thing, but just because I didnt want to deform them.

My best friend pierced his belly button cuz he went to army school and couldnt have visible piercings, so he gets made fun of often cuz hes never taken it out.. still... and now he has an anchor tattooed on his sack.. HAHAHA... so bad.

I may put the side lip ring back in because its rad and I miss it. Never thought I'd re pierce anything

Firstly - I think you should put your side lip ring back in. Don't feel old, rock the lip piercing again. Please : )

The friend with the anchor on his balls has his belly button pierced? this dude sounds awesome haha

My buddy has his belly button pierced and he shows it off proudly, hairy belly and all.

I got my eyebrowed pierced when I was 16 cause my mom took me. It was a pain in the butt, always getting caught - eventually it ripped out and now I have a lovely scar to remind me of it for the rest of my life : )

I am going to take my nipple rings out, they are pretty much pointless, but I think I am gonna keep my nose and tongue ring.

My whole thing is even when it becomes a black blob - I will know what it meant to me at the time in my life that I got it. If that makes any sense.

That sucks that your brow ring ripped out !!! Mine got tugged on a bundle too, hence the goo lol. But yes, chances are my lip ring will be in again after that comment.. I guess 26 isnt that old, I just turned and it was devastating!!!

And I think body piercings are cool, my ex has the base of her neck done and 3 on her spine, and they are effing hawt! But the under the skin stuff is creepy, and that dude with the jigsaw tattoos and the coral implants on his forehead to make horns is way out of line, but a cool out of line.

And as for scarring, most of them are gross, but some are soooo cool, and I personally cant wait to get my neck done in a few months. My cinderella neckbirds tugging at a tattered pirate flag will be a cool neck/shoulder tat, buyt the best part is totally the scarred akull and cross swords that is going ontop of the flag tattoo! So I'm a fan, as long as its tasteful and suits the theme. And I've never scene scarring ontop of a tattoo before, of the same picture as the tattoo, I think the 3d like effect should be cool, and very pirate like.. arrrgh!

Stars hey.. *grits teeth* JK. I suggest making it a little different from Jacks, make it personal ;) Just like I suggest never to pick flash off of a tattoo parlor wall because its not personal, it just ends up being like someone elses carbon copy.

Putting on weight before hand is a good idea though, because your tat wont stretch later on, but if you shrink, things may skew lol

26 is not that old at all! okay well since I am turning 26 next week I need to say that to convince myself as well. was it really devastating? I think now that my age number will be creeping closer to 30 is frightening.

Gotta love piercing goo. I must admitt I love the way the Corset piercings look - but my body likes to reject piercings so that would not go over well...

Is the cinderella neckbirds going on the back of your neck or like wrapping around the side?

I have seen a couple scarrings that came out kinda cool, but I would never do that just because I like the way tattoos look so much better.

P.S. I will expect proof that your lip is re-pierced!! ;)

WOOHOOOO! I loved being a redshirt.. that was soooo long ago lol, but Im a huge star trek nerd, I used to skip my afternoons of college to watch 4 hours of star trek on the space channel here in Canada :p

And I think the idea is way cool for your tat, as long as you add your own personal touch;)

underthesetears, oh, you'll have proof, but I'm gonna wait til I go on vacation in september because of presentations to clients and such, I have to wear business clothes and such, and show people my illustrations etc, so they need to understand what I say lol. I wish holes didnt close up!

And yes the birds are wrapping up my neck to about my ear, and down the back of my shoulderblade, and my scarring will be just below collar so I dont make anyone puke lol.

Piercings, I'm growing out of them now that Im older sadly, but I used to love them. I had a side lip ring and the middle done, but I took them both out last year on my birthday because I felt old I pierced the middle one myself.

Wow, i would hate to run into you in a dark alley... :)

obviously...

Proud to be Anti-Curby

would be cool, no?

Could you imagine? Haha, asking a hardcore tatoo artist to tatoo the word Curby on your back? :D

Well in A2L's case there would be a big heart involved with Curby written around it. And maybe my face situated somewhere below the belt.

If you ever hope to be a credible adult and want a job that pays better than minimum wage, then for God's sake don't pierce or tattoo every available piece of flesh. If so, then plan your future around saying" Do you want fries with that?" and Just because your tattoo has Chinese characters in it doesn't make you spiritual. It's right above the crack of your ass. And it translates to "beef with broccoli." The last time you did anything spiritual, you were praying to God you weren't pregnant. You're not spiritual. You're just high.

Good god, you dont understand ANYTHING! I own my own design company, and I work for a huge credible architecture organization. You should just keep your mouth shut because obviously the world doesnt revolve around what you believe.

I just had my house appraised and its now worth 1.4 million dollars, I own 3 cars and have a design degree, not to mention that the least I make in a year is $70'ooo.. On a bad year, last year I made 123'000 and the gov gave me back my taxes.. can you say that? Exactly.

People without talent who have to work regular jobs may have your opinion, but anyone else with a set of eyes can see straight past the facade..

Actually that is not true. I have obvious tattoos and piercings and I have worked in a professional agency setting for over three years now. and trust me i make plenty.

i don't know why you have to be so insulting. the world is changing, tattoos are becoming more mainstream and less of an issue with employers.

you can't judge what tattoo's mean to people. a persons success or failure will be based on what you accomplish as a person way more then any body art or piercings.

that is my two cents

Your jokes are insulting, and quite annoying ;)

And I really do have a great job, a great life, and my tattoos didnt hamper a single thing! In fact I was able to take december '06- may '07 off of work and just paint because I've done so well, tattoos and all.
