Episode 9 - Namaste: runway question

I've been re-watching the show and came up with a question while watching "Namaste". I always assumed that the other's were building the runway for the ajira flight to land, but if the ajira flight landed back in the seventies, why would the others be building it in the 2000's?

The flight did land in the 2000's. Just some of the passengers went back to the 70's.
