As I was rewatching this episode, I knew the whole "flash back" was really a flash forward. However, I am confused why Jack consistently makes references to his father. When attempting to renew his prescription for oxycodone, he tries to use a script written by his father. More importantly, when confronted by the new Chief of Surgery at the hospital, Jack tells him to go bring his father "down here" and compare who is more drunk.
At first I was just thinking this is the shows way to show that Jack's father's death continues to haunt him -- evidenced by how he has essentially become his father with his drinking habits. But the other doctor doesn't seem too confused when Jack talks about his father (and being the new chief of surgery, he would likely know that he was replacing Jack's dead father). Maybe it was because he was more worried about Jack's obvious abuse of alcohol and drugs, and how he was obviously planning to kill himself on the bridge? I don't know if any of this is worth thinking about, but it just confused me because it's almost like it was there to try to mislead people into believing it was a flash back even though it wasn't (although I feel like him seeing Sarah, among other things, did that well enough). |

He was drunk and addicted to drugs, he obviously wasn't thinking clearly. |

Even after rewatching this so many times, it still blows my mind every time. I think this still stands as the best Lost episode, and it would be awesome if the series finale can manage to outdo it. The pace is perfect and there's so many intense moments-- one that I really like is when Ben's trying to convince Jack to give him the phone or he'll kill the guys at the beach. The music and the way they cut it and the actors are all so good in that scene.
Charlie's death always makes my eyes water. Even if it's unrealistic for him to drown, it's so convincing and it's awesome to see how far he's come from how he was before the crash or even in seasons 1 and 2. I still hope we see Claire and "the baby" get on a helicopter sometime, I don't think Desmond was making that up, and I have a hard time believing he saw Kate or Sun with Aaron and assumed it was Claire. I love how they cut from Charlie's body to Aaron crying too. There's so much in this episode it's unbelievable they managed to do it so well. Danielle finally meets Alex, Locke betrays the survivors, Jack and Kate leave the island... How could anyone not like this episode? Incredible.

Still don't know why Sarah came down to the hospital...She could have given the hospital Jack's Moms number or many other things...Why go all the way to the hospital and refuse to give him a ride?

^ I always thought that was a total biotch move, too. Drive down there so you can rub your pregnancy in his face and be condescending towards him, and then refuse to even give him a ride.
I swear, the minor characters of this show consist of some of the worst human beings possible. |

I know it's mostly a way to justify the main characters reasons for doing whatever they do...But this time...It was just plain out of place. As much as I dislike Jack, His past really makes him who he is. |

A Ben quote I found interesting in this episode "Jack, listen to me. If you phone her boat, every single LIVING person on this Island will be killed."
