On another note, this episode and the one before this one is probably the biggest reason why I dislike Locke. Locke just seems so arrogant and like "I'm so cool, being BFF with the island, and everyone should be just like me." He made fun of Sayid for actually following an accurate map while he brags about himself accidentally finding Mikhail's house, he pushes Mikhail into the sonar fence, and then he ruins Jack's and Juliet's chances of going home by blowing up the submarine. I understand that Locke wants to stay on the island because he's afraid of getting paralyzed again and meeting up with his father, but he seems very uncaring and selfish by going to extreme measures to make sure that no one can ever get off of the island. |

Another favorite John Locke episode!! Directed by Jack Bender it really gives us lots of twists and turns to the story. I really love the John and Ben scenes as they play off each other so well. One thing I noticed though that may be nothing is the way Ben wants Richard to bring the man from Tallahassee. I am thinking that this was an immediate request and that Cooper was nowhere on the island at that point.
This kind of reminds me of the conversation that Juliet had with Richard about having her ex husband hit by a bus and then it just happens. I think that these Others/Richard can just bring Cooper right out of his accident he had in his car right to the island by some way they can control events of time. I always kind of felt that Ben said exactly the right thing when he told Jack that he was doing a good job of rescuing himself by leaving the island. I guess it seemed pretty selfish to me that Jack was leaving the rest of the Losties at this time even though he claims he would come back for them all/Kate. The shock of seeing Cooper react so quickly to John's threat as he pushes John out the window still is there each time I see it. I thought of Jacob this time as John falls down to the ground. The worst part of this episode is that we had to wait so long to see the return of the scene of Cooper on the island! 5 long weeks!! |

Ben gets the award for funniest line in this episode, which is rare because most of the time that honor goes to Sawyer or Hurley.
Anyway.... (excuse the paraphrase) Locke (about Ben telling Richard to bring the Man from Tallahassee): Was that a secret code or something? Ben: No...I'm sorry John. We don't have a secret code for "There's a man in my closet, ready to kill my daughter'........ Although apparently, we should. Hahahahaha! |

I think this is the first episode in the rewatch that I've liked a lot more than the first time. This was an awesome way to show how Locke ended up in his wheelchair... they totally did not disappoint there. I thought the CGI looked fake the first time, but for some reason, it was better this time.
I still couldn't stand Locke being manipulated into blowing up the sub, though. I liked Jack playing the piano and the moment when Danielle saw Alex. There were also some hilarious lines between Ben and Locke. |

Can you receive disability benefits for non-physical problems, like depression?
Juliet doesn't exactly look like she's ostracized, all smiley while Jack and Tom throw the ball around. Peter Talbot looks like Eddie doesn't he? It couldn't have been too long from when they were on Hydra to Jack at the barracks. a week maybe? doesn't seem long enough to be ingratiated. maybe they subjected him to room 23. It does seem like it's Locke's plan all along to blow up the sub. (maybe, as Ben said, out of fear of Cooper) I agree with someone's comments earlier that, though he's probably not fLocke here, he might be a bit influenced by him...hitting Sayid over the head, blowing up two hatches and the sub... not that it was necessary, since the explosion, there's no communication and the sub can't work. I think the guy Ben orders to bring in Talahassee could be Richard. Does off-Island Locke have money from the last run-in with Cooper? probably couldn't bring himself to keep it. such a brilliant scene between Ben and Locke in Ben's house. (like end of s.5). Locke is so confident and in tune with the island and the Others are cheating. They have tests and machines, refrigerators, electricity...they're not living off the land, hunting boar with knives, trying to listen to the island with psychotropic drugs and sweat lodges but I think Locke does have a point. I was wondering, though Ben's very convincing in a cult-leader way that he needs the sub to give the people the illusion of leaving (and Locke doesn't buy into Ben at all in this scene!)...that maybe Ben's lying in a reverse psychology way to get Locke to blow up the sub. The more he protests that he doesn't want Locke to do it, the more it'll push Locke to do it to piss off Ben. So Ben gets to keep Jack, his doctor, on island, while still upholding his end of the bargain. although Ben needs that sub for all his mainland contacts and stuff... Ben was right about that last bit. Locke could just let the sub go and it can't come back, but maybe Locke doesn't believe him. or maybe Locke has to keep Jack on the island. also, the freighter can make it to the island so maybe the sub can.....yeah, the more I think about it, the more I think Ben conned Locke into blowing up the sub, so he can keep Jack, Juliet, and Kate and Sayid. Maybe Locke sortof had that idea already and Ben conned him to make sure it would happen. and then Ben can look all innocent and everything.

I know Ben admits that he manipulated John, but it did also look like it was originally Locke's idea...
wonder if the "magic box" is the island itself? in response to someone posting earlier, yeah maybe Alpert plucked Cooper (and others) out of time/space... it could be pastCooper or something? |
