Lost Rewatch discussion for "Enter 77"
http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Enter_77 I love the game-playing juxtaposition. Mikhail refers to his dialogue with Sayid as a game, while Locke plays chess, and Hurley and Sawyer play Ping Pong. And I'd bet that at while this is all going on, Jack is playing chess with Ben. I always thought that it was odd to hide the self-destruct control behind a chess game. If the hostiles are attacking, there's no time to play a game to get to the command menu. Unless, of course the game was set up to accept only a pre-scripted list of moves (hence the "it cheats" comment). Locke seems genuinely surprised when The Flame bursts into flames, yet we know from "Par Avion" that he knew about the C-4. Bad direction? |

I remember thinking, upon first viewing, "why 77???"
Rewatching this after S5, "oooohhh..77, as in 1977?" |

I think this episode is the exact halfway point of the series isn't it? Nice to think how far we've come since episode one to this one, and from this one to where we are now.
I don't know why Sayid insisted on keeping Mikhail alive though. Maybe I'm missing something but to me it doesn't really seem to fit with the flashbacks. I like how simply Danielle puts it- he said he'd kill us so why don't we do it first?

Refusing to kill a helpless man? It was an act of compassion. It had everything to do with the flashbacks.

So whats the deal with John blowing things up? And major things too...the hatch, the sub, and this station. There were a lot of supplies and food lost b/c of him. I would be pissed. Especially all that beef!

why is sawyer so convinced he can win at ping pong? i guess if hurley perfected his game in santa rosa, sawyer might have done the same in prison....
i love when sawyer asks nikki who she is.....god i hate nikki and paulo. i liked seeing mikhail and the flame, and ms. klugh getting shot im not totally sure why mikhail shot her...i just looked at the transcript to see the english translation of their conversation, but it doesnt tell me much. shes just saying that they cant let the losties get into the territory and they only have one option...mikhail is saying there is another way..... i guess they have been told to die before giving anything away. i dont feel the flshbacks let us in on any new information about sayid. it just repeated the ideas about his character that we already know...but it was a good story. also, the comment above about 77 as in 1977....good thinking..

I think that part of the point of the story was to clarify Damon's and Carlton's stance on torture. Prior to that, I know of at least one person that thought that the show was making a case for justified torture. In fact, he thought that the characters had ended up on the island so that they would learn/accept things about themselves and Sayid was meant to accept that he was supposed to be a really good torturer. Of course, this same person thought for the longest time that Jin was an actual hit man for Paik.

I LOVE the bit from this episode in the blooper reel...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrGdTzG6aUE at 5:09 -Well, if there's anyone else here, they're hiding pretty good. I...I checked every nook and cranny." -"NOT EVERY NOOK AND CRANNY, JOHN!" ... -"Good GOD, Holmes!" LOLOLOL |

I guess so, but it doesn't make sense to me how Sayid would just let Mikhail come along when a few weeks ago he was beating "Henry" up because he was sure he was "one of them." He knows they aren't helpless is what I'm trying to say.
