Lost Rewatch discussion for "Tricia Tanaka is Dead"
http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Tricia_Tanaka_Is_Dead I remember people complaining about this episode when it first aired. People thought it was just filler. People didn't realize then that it foreshadowed "The Man Behind the Curtain," Hurley's actions in "Through the Looking Glass," and the entire last half of Season 5. |

Yes, the way it leads into "The Man Behind the Curtain" is brilliant. An episode where the van brings a moment of joy, to one where it's a vehicle of death

"Roger Workman"
![]() I do really like this episode but I can't remember what I thought the first time. It's a nice bonding thing with all the guys and I like how even Jin had a good time despite not being able to communicate.

I really like this episode. It's probably in my top 5 all-time Lost episodes, alongside story-heavy episodes like The Constant, Collision, Walkabout, and Ji Yeon.
This season is filled with Flashbacks that don't really mean much (at least right now) in the great scheme of things--Locke meeting the undercover cop, Sayid confessing to torturing a woman he never met, Jack's tattoos--but this one was a sweet story that ended up meaning something, come flashforward time (Hurley's dad, the car). The on-island stuff was great too. You've got stuff that will pay off soon (the van, Roger Workman), as well as some great character moments, like Hurley visiting Libby's grave and Charlie facing his fear. And one of my all-time favorite moments, Sawyer confronting Hurley in a rage about the empty scotch bottle, only to be overcome by a joyous Hurley. It's really the epitome of their relationship. Nobody, even a surly dude like Sawyer, can really be mad at Hugo. And finally, the song Shambala (the 70's track that plays at the beginning and end of the episode) just encapsulates the episode. It's very carefree-sounding, which works with the whole buddy aspect of TTiD, but it's also sort of sentimental sounding, especially with Michael Giacchino segues the track into a beautiful orchestra song. So, yeah. I really like this episode a lot

I watched this one today. It's definitely one of my favourites ever. Hurley in this and Enter 77, when he beats Sawyer at ping pong, are the best Hurley bits ever.

This episode is such an emotional highpoint for the series, it has so much heart and love for the characters. I wish there was some of this in S4 and S5.
I wonder if Cheech is on to something in terms of the show's big picture when he says "Having hope is never stupid. You've got to believe good things will happen and then they will. In this world, son, you've got to make your own luck." On-island Hurley says "we could all use a little hope" and Sawyer replies "If it's hope you're looking for ese, you're on the wrong damn island. There sure as hell ain't no hope here." Later Hurley prays for help and gets his idea from Sawyer. Very Lost-ian and kinda interesting in terms of Sawyer's character arc. Also, what's up with that dart Sawyer stepped on? |
