Lost Rewatch - Live Together, Die Alone

http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Live...her,_die_alone

Incredible finale! There is so much in here that I don't even know what to say. Desmond and Inman in the hatch. We meet Charles Widmore and Penny. Libby gives Des the boat. Desmond causes the crash of 815. Amazing flashbacks!

The present story doesn't even need my praise. I love how Sayid sees right through Michael and how Jack has learned from the past and actually trusts Sayid's accusation this time around. I loved seeing the four toed statue now knowing what the rest is -- and who might be inside it at that very moment. I love the Losties figuring Mike out and all that tension, everyone was awesome in that scene, from Jack freaking out in Mike's face to Sawyer's disgusted expression. And of course, the hatch. Oh the hatch. Locke was super annoying this whole episode. But at least it led to that incredible climax

I liked how every main character had something important to do in this finale. It's too bad the same can't be said for The Incident (which is awesome anyway).

I liked season two a whole lot better this time around. It's gonna be interesting to see how I rank the seasons after this rewatch and compare it to before...

Excellent finale, especially the flashbacks which finally revealed why the plane crashed in the first place. It was great seeing Libby in that flashback... I was already starting to miss her. And in the present, finally, we found out what would happen if the button wasn't pushed. It's cool they spent the whole second season exhausting all the possible storylines that could occur with the Swan and then blew it up to allow new storylines for the next season, thus keeping the show fresh.

Locke was very unbearable in this episode... when he wanted to push the button, he was intent that everyone else did it. And yet now when he wants to see what would happen if the button wasn't pushed, he went to extremes to ensure that Eko and Desmond couldn't. I guess Locke showed aspects of this in Season 1, when he didn't seem to care about Boone dying. But in this episode, he does nothing to stop Eko and Charlie, who could have died from the dynamite blowing up in an enclosed space. He doesn't care after hearing the blast and no answers. He says they're not his friends. And then he goes and breaks the computer after Desmond tells him the electromagnetism downed the airplane.

My first post... woohoo!

Anyway... great finale! I did have some head-scratching moments, though. On the day of the crash, Desmond experiences three important events... he goes outdoors for the first time in nearly 3 years (this would be a big deal for me!)... he discovers Kelvin's duplicity and accidentally causes his death... and he fails to enter the numbers in time and causes the breakup of 815. But then... only 40 days later, Desmond is suicidal?? To me, that makes no sense. While I understand that he felt despair because he was now alone in the Swan... at least he was now able to go outdoors briefly... even simply to sit in the sun between pushing the button. Wouldn't that alone help him keep his spirits up?... not to mention possibly bumping into Boone or Locke!

So, okay, accepting the premise that he's suicidal.... why, when Locke pounded on the hatch, did Desmond simply turn on the spotlight... and do nothing else?? Wouldn't he be excited to know that someone was out there? That has always been one of my pet peeves with Desmond's last month in the Swan... how could he not know that something was going on above ground?

With that said... there were so many things that I loved about this episode. Probably my favorite was the way Ben confidently walked down the pier at end with that totally smug look on his face... completely revealing himself for the first time as the bad guy we've come to know and love. And then Kate, Sawyer and Jack communicating with each other only with their eyes right before the burlap sacks are put over their heads... great scene fraught with anxiety and tension. Also loved that when the Swan imploded and causes that loud, ominous sound.. everyone on the island hears it... from the beach to the pier. Very unique, creative and, as usual on LOST.... mysterious!

Maybe he was in shock that he had accidentally killed his partner? He would also have been on a rough schedule, having to wake up every 108 minutes and thus never having a good night's sleep. He saw the chaos that ensued when the button wasn't pushed so now he feels more trapped than ever.

Though I too am confused why he didn't think Locke came to replace him. Or maybe he thought it was a Hostile and was afraid they were trying to get in.

this was an AMAZING episode.

i dont see how anyone could believe that locke is mr.x at this time, after seeing the look on his face when he realizes he was wrong about pushing the button. this IS john locke. granted, an incredibly annoying john locke the entire episode. such an a-hole

this episode tied in so many things we already knew about and so many things we are yet to find out....the libby/des scene is one of my favourite character connections, right up there with christian/sawyer. i wont even get started on libby.
we see the statue, learn about the plane crash, see kevlin, hear about radzinsky, penny gets that call at the end....next time we see des he will be skipping through time and seeing the future....almost every detail of this episode is important.

this little exchange:

DESMOND: You killed us. You killed us all.

LOCKE: No. I just saved us all.

the second time (i believe) that locke is referred to as someone who will "save us all" (the first time when charlie says something along the lines of: "if there was anyone on this island i would put my faith in to save us all, it would be john locke"). has to mean something...or has to be put there to make us believe it means something.

sayid knowing about michael, everyone seeing the flash (haha bernard and claire together?), the others capturing jack and friends... this is really setting the ball rolling.

and claire and charlie kiss

half of me wanted the season to end with the white flash, but i also see that the end scene is of much importance....

It's funny that we see the statue in the Season 2 finale, but they don't come back to it until Season 5. They're not afraid of making viewers wait... a very long time.

Oh... those are excellent observations, Cam! Especially about the sleep deprivation... I can see where that would really add to Desmond's stress and anxiety levels. Thanks.

When all of the metal objects were being sucked in, it TOTALLY reminded me of "The Incident." I also found it interesting that when Desmond turned the Failsafe key, the screen turned white, just like it did at the end of Season 5. Is there a possible connection, or is it just me?

Really loved the end of the epp- all of a sudden in the totally opposite environment in another hatch like room not having any idea what's going on with two guys playing a GAME and talking about who is going to lose! Just great.

Lots of other terrific moments, but of course I do have a "That's weird" rewatch gripe.

Why did Jack go at all? Sayid was sure Michael was lying, and Sayid had been a good lie detector. Even if Michael was telling the truth- he didn't know where Walt was, he didn't mention seeing Henry Gale- so Henry was an unknown quantity. Jack knew the Others had more than 2 guns- they took more than 2 from the Losties. Kate had found the fake beards- casting doubt on backward appearance of the Others. Too much doubt & risk to follow an obviously unstable Michael.

And Sayid- what was that about? His great idea was that they would surprise the Others with the fact that they knew they were walking into a trap? Then the support plan was to sneak up in a boat- because you can't easily see a boat from an island- then he was going to light a fire to tell any Others around exactly where the Losties were gathering? Since he believed Michael was lying, he must have thought the best result they could get was to get back to camp safely- so why not convince Jack to hold up and try to trip up Michael into breaking down?

I think the reason they couldn't tell the others they suspected Michael was that they all would have said- "No way, not going nowhere!"

I like Mr. Eko's twist on John's line; when john wasn't going to let him press the button he says "Don't tell me what I CAN do".
