Lost Rewatch - One Of Them
http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/One_of_them Henry Gale! ![]() This episode was pure awesome. Sayid's been moping around since Shannon's death and now he's finally back to badass torturer mode. Once again Jack came prancing in with his holier-than-thou attitude and almost caused an implosion... the way he looked at Locke was super annoying, like a "I decide what's right and what's wrong and you better obey" look or something. As far as Danielle's actions around Ben... To me, it's believable that after being alone for so long on that crazy island she did go a little crazy. Maybe she even knows it. The way she looks at Ben in this episode, on rewatch, seems to me like she faintly remembers his face, can't quite place it or maybe she even doubts that she's met him before, but knows that something about him is evil. I don't think it's that big of a stretch to say she could not remember because of the traumatic circumstances in which she last saw Ben-- plus, it was at night. |

Yeah it's a bit cheap to explain it that way, but it's very much possible Rousseau barely remembered her previous encounter with Ben.
I especially liked the flashbacks - the shot of Sayid as the trucks drive away on the road is very very beautiful. Even CGI-Iraq was really kickass looking.

About Jack, I would like to say that I think it was more Locke being like that. He was forcing everyone else to push the button. IMO

This is my favorite non-finale episode of the entire series. Sayid had been in the background since Shannon's death, then just comes out and lets loose all of his emotions onto "Henry Gale" or Ben. I still think his "You would remember" speech is one of the most powerful scenes of the entire series. But the thing I like most about this episode is that Sayid was right the whole time, and he was 100 percent certain about it.

this was an amazing episode!
ben is a master manipulator, and this is the first time we see him in action. he does seem convincing, but i recall the first time around, not buying his story for a minute (ok, maybe ONE minute)...ben does a great job of keeping up with his henry gale story despite fact that he has an arrow through his shoulder, and then is being pelted with questions and fists by sayid. the sawyer story was so unnecessay...we already saw that animals can piss him off..but this time he actually killed it. oh and hurley is hording food. how revealing.... i liked the scene with charlie and sayid at the end, it reminded me of the last time they sat on the beach and discussed how you feel after killing someone....which is guess is probably what it is supposed to remind you of..... there are a lot of episodes so far that i have felt are important, but this one really is the start of a whole new lost.

I actually enjoyed the Sawyer-Hurley bit. It was a curious and cute little side-character story. The writers could still afford to do "filler" stuff back then, and it made a nice counterpoint to the much more intense happenings with Ben.
The end scene was really good, I agree. Rather creepy and stuff. Looking back, it sucks for Sayid since all he had on Benry at that point was his hunch, which is even harder to believe (from Jack's point of view) than John's whole "the island is special" routine in most of S2.

Woo hoo, welcome Henry Gale! "But know this -- he will lie -- a long time. He will lie." Oh yeah, and that's an understatement.
Always love to see the character connections. This time around Kate’s dad meets Sayid in Iraq; Kelvin Inman meets Sayid in Iraq. I suppose the tree frog stuff was meant to be funny. In the end I thought it was just mean and cruel. Though I did like the way the scene cut from a squashed tree frog to a close up of Benry’s blood-soaked towels and gauze. As Sayid begins to break down emotionally, Benry starts in with his, “Did you lose someone too?” bit, turning the tables and attempting to get into Sayid’s psyche, just like the good old Ben Linus we know and love. And hey, we got to see the Egyptian hieroglyphics on the Swan’s countdown timer! |

I have watched this ep so many times, I can almost recite the script with the actors. The appearance of Henry Gale would have not captured my imagination if it hadn't been done by Emerson. My jaw literally dropped when I saw his performance. He was so good. It's such a rare thing in modern TV shows. It just jolted the show several notches higher. The game got a whole lot more serious, and the performances, which were already good, that much better.
But this show also has a lot of other good things. Naveen's performance in the "You would remember" scene was riveting. It just demonstrates how horrifying that whole experience might be. And the further information about the Dharma Initiative with the appearance of Kate's dad and Kelvin Inman was so neatly tucked into the U.S. military. But I am now convinced that the DI had trained Sayid to be a torturer. Notice that the unis have no names or marks such as stripes or other marks of military rank and identification. Sgt. Austin has a "1" on his shoulder? They're the operation of the DI that dealt/deals with behavior modification and psychological research, which begs the question that likely won't get answered: Who was the pilot? And this ep has what still is the funniest scene in the series for me, although I'm not sure it was meant to me, but Henry Gale writhing in the hatch with an arrow through his shoulder just Cracks. Me. Up. It's so improbable; it's like cartoons. His spiky hair and the spiky arrow. ROTFL! As for Jack and Locke, those two are hopeless rivals. There's little anyone can do except try to protect the dishes and furniture when they're around.

This episode is indescribable. This is why we watch and fawn over it so much. The performances by all the actors in this ep were phenomenal and if there was any doubt about the direction of the show from this episode until the finale, it wasn't coming from me. All the best scenes have already been described, but Sayid vs Ben round one was riveting, as was the tension with Jack, Locke, and the timer. Impeccable.

I really hated Sayid for beating the crap out of Benry
and for some reason this was the first episode in some time where I was on Jack's side: WTF is wrong with Locke leaving some random person with Sayid to torture?! this man is a freaking monster ... and he totally lost it in that armory. absolutely out of line, even if Benry were an other ... this justifies nothing and then there was Michael Emerson ... LOST just had reached a whole new level of awesome. amazing ... and we get an insane Jackface deluxe ... plus some Sayid ol' puppy eyes looks the frog stiry was kinda funny, but really: it wasn't necessary. I would have preferred seeing more Benry Galus instead of watching Hurley and James stomping thru the jungle hunting a frog
