stunning episode ... 3 different stories (+ a few other scenes) interwoven, and it works perfectly
Michael turns more and more into the jerk we will learn to dislike a lot we get the button, the Swan logo, first glimpse at the DI O'Quinn is amazing, and so are Kate's breasts when she's crawling thru the vent I love how they intertwined the two different viewpoints of Jack (in MOS, MOF) and John's way down the hatch (Adrift) ... this episode is LOST storytelling at its very best best line: "Ah yeah? Watcha gonna do? Splash me?!"

I was a little bored by this episode on rewatch. That, and Michael was seriously annoying. Not only his yelling but he was being a total dick to Sawyer after he just saved his life. Michael is an interesting character for me... on-island I never liked him, but in his flashbacks I really feel bad for him and hate how Walt's mother ruins his life and basically... turns him into the jerk he becomes.
The hatch bits are cool. Kate finding all the food and sneaking the Apollo bars Locke entering the numbers for the first time... and the end with the crazy Tailies and Jin's "udders" <3

I remember reading somewhere that the Sawyer flashback had something to do with the, as of yet, and probably never to be explained, Tampa job. At best it may appear in the Lost dvd release of the complete series, assuming of course that this is going to be released, as a bonus to help fans justify spending who knows how much on shows that they already own on dvd. At worst it will be put in the secret vault alongside the footage of Back to the Future where Eric Stoltz played Marty McFly where it will never see the light of day.

Waaaaa-aaa-lllt!
Michael is so annoying (as if we don’t already know that). I mean, I get weepy in even the most minor of sentimental Lost moments; you’d think an episode whose major storyline was devoted to losing/giving up your child would have me cryin' like a little baby. This did absolutely nothing for me. Michael's characterization just doesn’t move me. Sorry, he's a dufus. And, yeah, Walt's mother is a real piece of work. On a different note, I did think it was cool how Jin got blown up on raft and ended up on the beach similar to the way he will get blown up on the freighter and end up on the beach. |

I watched this yesterday and I finally felt some justification as to why Sawyer shot Tom in cold blood at the end of S3. I always thought that was a pretty low thing for him to do but, I think it all goes back to what happened on the raft and how screwed michael and sawyer were after. Sure Michael is annoying but Sawyer really felt bad when Michael accused him of being at fault for the whole thing. If you piss Sawyer off you are a marked man and your days are numbered.
As Sawyer put it when he killed Tom "Thats for taking the kid of the raft." Guy def holds a grudge. Susan Lloyd is def a candidate for most evil person in the show. She totally ruined Michaels life and it never got any better for him. Sad really. Overall this is a better episode than I remember it being at the time. |

I think season 2 maybe my favorite loved the whole season..anyhow i thought when sawer shot tom it was kinda cold but rewatching the raft scene and then when tom has kate at gunpoint and forces the group to drop their guns and go back or he will shoot kate...reminds me of the whole grudge thing..Sawer sais "we ain't done zeek" guess he was right

The first thing I noticed when watching this episode is that it was weird that Michael acted surprised when his lawyer told him that Susan wanted him to give up Walt for adoption so Brian could become his legal guardian. I'm pretty sure that this is exactly what Susan told him on the phone just before he was hit by a car in NYC. Unless the hit gave him temporary amnesia (joking), there's no reason he should have been that surprised the second time.
Speaking of Susan, I sort of go back and forth with how I feel about her. I sometimes think of her attitude and manipulation as a sort of Catch-22 in how it affects Michael's relationship with his son: she says that Michael can't support Walt and that that is why he needs to let Walt go but it is entirely her actions that put Michael in that situation. So, I start to think that it's really Michael's fault how things turned out between them and feel Susan is justified until I remember that she perpetrated evrything that lead to their custody battle. So then, it's only in this rewatch that I've realised how selfish, evil and manipulative Susan is. Also, I've nevr understood why Susan insisted that Michael sign away his rights to his son. It was only after she brought up the idea that he pursued custody of Walt, so had she not brought it up, she and Brian could have gone on living their lives with Walt without that complication. It's not like Michael was providing Walt with financial support or, thanks to Susan's letter interception, had any interaction with Walt. I just don't see why Susan and Brian had to do any of that. Interestingly enough, I was first annoyed with Michael in the beginning of this episode rewatch, as I am anytime he yells "Walt!" However, after he explains to Sawyer that all he has to hold on to is the hope that Walt can hear his voice and know that he's alive and coming for him, I felt compassionate and sympathetic towards him. Of course, I know those feelings won't last long. Quote:
No way! I watched the S3 finale with a room full of 300 other 'Lost' fans in Philadelphia and we all cheered when Sawyer shot Tom and again when he delivered that awesome line: "That's for takin' the kid off the raft." The Losties and Tailies had been terrorized, kidnapped, beaten and murdered by The Others for the past 90 days prior to that moment and I thought it was well-deserved and well-written.
