So it was obvious good luck he ended up in Oceanic815? Oh the flash of the pillar of smoke at the end of the 1st part was spooky. Its like weee lets all wave and cheer the raft getting to sea but oh thats right the damn others are coming..! |

I'm way behind everyone else on the rewatch, and just finished S1 last night. After reading all the posts, I thought I'd just mention one other scene that caused me to reflect on a much later Lost scene. It was when Arzt and Hurley were sitting outside the Black Rock waiting for Locke, Kate and Jack to come back out. It reminded me of the scene in late S4 where Ben and Hurley are stitting outside Jacob's cabin, waiting for Locke to come back out. Surely this one in Exodus was not nearly as funny as the later one (Hurley sharing the Apollo bar with Ben) but still, there are similarities.

Sox Girl, I have you beat in the "way behind the rewatch" category.
Anyway, I wanted to share some of my thoughts on Locke. First of all, I'm totally square now with the Two Smoke Monster theory that others have mentioned. Clearly, Locke was assuming his run-in with the sentry would be like his last - lots of cuddling, cooing, and reflecting on the true nature of the island. He looked so scared in the finale when he realized that things were going down a completely different way (i.e. him.. going down.. through a hole in the ground). Second, I found it interesting, in Locke's brief flashback on the 815 flight, how he was really intent on grabbing the brochure or whatever it was that had fallen out of his reach. I think the brochure was the safety guidelines for the airplane.. in case of an emergency! Very ironic that no one on that doomed airplane could possibly have applied any of the standard safety procedures! (The other bit of airplane irony I liked: the gate agent telling Hurley that this is his "lucky" day.) |

I think everyone else has covered everything I wanted to say but the one standout scene from the two episodes which took on extra meaning for me, knowing what we now know is the scene on the raft where Michael gives the watch back to Jin before Jin gives it back to him. It is filled with Michael commenting how he wishes Sun had made him a dictionary, how lucky Jin is and guilty looks when he does get given the watch back. Also, the awkwardness between Sun and Michael as they are about to hug before the raft sets off. Both of these really signpost to the fact that something potentially was going on between Michael and Sun but we didn't get that reviled until much later on in the missing pieces episode Secret Moments! Fantastic writing right there! |

Anyway I only had to wait 2 or 3 weeks before season 2 started. And now I don't have to wait at all. "Nobody can tell ya There's only one song worth singing..." |

I'm in your league. Just finished the season. I've got to finish the other 4 before February!
I loved when Michael asked Sawyer at the end ; "You're either a hero, or you wanna die". Sawyer : Well, I ain't no hero. Ironic, since he has already established himself as one, and by the end of the show, I think it will be he who controls everything. |

thoughts from Exodus part 1:
how'd a ship end up in the middle of the jungle? must be somewhat close to the shore, though they went inland to get to it. Shannon's a bitch in flashbacks, as usual, and can't even hold onto the dog the second after Walt gives him to her. "they" took Alex, as in Ben... smoke, stealing babies, exodus, egypt...biblical references some racial profiling in this one with the flashbacks the purgatory idea...being punished here Also, in retrospect, it looks like the Others really went out of their way to get Walt, only for that to be a dead end and they send Walt away. I don't think it was a really long con to get Michael on the freighter working for Ben (Ben just uses opportunities as they come along, more on-the-spot cons). How could they just drop Walt? and, in hindsight, the raft is really disappointing. All that effort for nothing. Then again, Desmond made it in a sailboat....well, not out of island orbit exactly...nevermind And Danielle's able to survive, alone, on the island for 16 years. catch food. (likely without guns to save ammo) It's impressive. She's probably the toughest one because the Others and Dharma have outside civilization help and they, and the Oceanic crew, have a bunch of people to work together. She has nothing. It makes sense that she wouldn't have any Other run-ins, since they were mutually avoiding each other ("if you want Alex to live, run the other way when you hear whispers"). But Danielle never found the other Dharma stations?! |

thoughts on Exodus part 2:
I know he complained, but I liked Arzt a little, about how the main group just took all the main trips, like they were better etc... and this time I knew he was going to blow up and I still jumped explosives weren't the only way, they already surmised there was another way in, try to find that. considering Hurley's luck, he should've carried the dynamite. I think Jack should've let Kate carry the dynamite. trust issues..or maybe because he cares...or maybe because he has to be in charge instead of letting fate decide. I don't think Locke saw a different monster. The first time it was serene or enlightening or something. This time, he expected the same and didn't get what he expected. I bet it frightened him, but probably same monster appearing as something else...maybe from his past or him seeing his death or something? but he still trusts it, doesn't want Kate to throw in the dynamite, trusting he'll be fine if he fell in...maybe it's a shortcut to the temple. |

Did anyone notice the similarities between Danielle's "The Others are coming" line, and the last line in S5 finale: "They're coming"? When I heard Danielle say that this 2nd time around it jolted me and made me sit straight up. That's what's so great about this show AND doing a rewatch. There is so much foreshadowing you couldn't have possibly gotten it all the 1st time around.
