an alright ep. made kick ass by the fact that we know sawyer was watching kate deliver aaron...

christian and jack talking by the pool was also a good scene...

its hard to watch jack pumping his blood into boone, when i know it wont work...and it seems so dangerous to have untrained people delivering a baby in the middle of the jungle....you would think that he could have maybe sent sun...i realize she isnt a doctor, but she does have medical knowledge from somewhere....and shes considerably calmer in these situations than charlie and kate.

"it knows i dont want it, i was going to give it away...babies know that stuff" hahahahahahaa

oh...and sun....dont tell jack what he cant do!

i think this was one of my number one crying episodes first time around. for some unknown reason sarah and jack always made me cry...and boone dying...its just sad...mostly because of the way shannon must feel...(while i dont cry for jack and sarah this time, i cant say the same for boone and shannon)

i guess really this is an important episode...aaron being born, boone dying...but it isnt spectacular really....

I love this episode, probably my favorite Jack centric next to TTLG and really close to MOSMOF.

life and death theme at the end of this episode is gut wrenching. I love Shannon and this episode is so sad. It kills me every time watching her come back with Sayid.

Poor Boone. He survives a plane crash from thousands of feet in the air with barely a scratch and a 20 footer kills him.

Question timeline confusion

I'm a little confused about the timeline of this episode and the previous one, "Deus Ex Machina"...In "The Little Prince", the time skippers see both Aaron's birth and the light that Locke sees from the hatch occurring on the same night, but in these two episodes theses events seem to take place on different nights...

Locke bangs on the hatch door right after dropping Boone off at the caves, at night. Jack proceeds to try to save Boone, and sends Kate to the beach for alcohol. Kate arrives at the beach early the next morning, and Claire delivers Aaron that night...am I missing something, or is this a mistake?

Locke brings Boone to the caves in late afternoon. Kate goes to beach camp and arrives at duskish. She returns to the caves, but finds Claire in labor on the path and delivers the baby that night, just as Locke is reaching the hatch.

The flashbacks aren't that great, but the on-island stuff is awesome. Sun's finally free and getting involved with the other survivors. I love when she comes back with the sea urchin and Jack and Charlie are just like "uh...wtf". Boone dying doesn't get to me as much as seeing Shannon come back and crying over his body while everyone else is all happy because Aaron's born.

Jack shouting Locke's famous line at Sun was cool. Actually this episode shows us a lot about Jack and his inability to admit defeat... eventually going as far as detonating a bomb in hopes of fixing his past mistakes.

Aaron's birth is great too. Kate did a good job considering she's never had any medical training. Claire holding her breath is so funny! But its sad when she explains that she's scared Aaron won't want her. And like someone said, it's cooler now that we know future-Sawyer's creeping in the bushes.

No problem. It is rather confusing, and I think transit times between caves, camp, and hatch throughout the series have varied to accomodate the writers. Glad I could help though.

I really liked how the various characters worked as a team in crisis situations and how much they cared about one another (Jack and Sun working together was awesome)... it was a real strength of Season 1. Even though I knew what was going to happen, it was still a very tense episode. I felt more sad for Boone this second time around, though it might have been more poignant if he got the flashbacks. Still, I liked Jack's ones especially the pool-side scene with his father.

It's neat that last episode, we followed Locke with the hatch light and this episode actually backtracked to show what happened while Locke trekked back to the caves. I had forgotten they were already using this strategy so far back since I was sometimes annoyed by it in Season 5.
