Nope, your right. Hurley was in Santa Rosa before the flashbacks in Numbers. The Lost timeline stumps me again! My bad.

Growing up, Hugo (also known as Hurley, for a yet unrevealed reason), was in an accident. A deck collapsed and claimed the lives of two people. Hurley believed he was responsible due to his weight, even though the deck was built to hold only eight people and was holding 23 during the accident. In response to his persistent belief that he was at fault and a deepening depression, Hurley's mother had him committed to the Santa Rosa Mental Health Institute. Nathan, regarding Sam's wife accent. It was ridiculous! I forgot how bad they were aswell. Note: Claire's mum. Eeek. For a big budget tv show I don't understand how they would not cast and australian (im assuming she isn't). She sounded more NZish and it was a pretty obvious transition between this woman speaking to the next scene being Claire with a real accent with hint of american. So funny.

Also-I don't remember Locke helping Kate- but this is my first rewatch. If he doesn't, I wonder why.

In addition to being one of the most grounded Lostaways, Hurley is also the funniest and savviest (sp?). It might look like he's going with the flow, but the fact is Hurley doesn't put it out there until he needs to. When he does he's Hurley on the spot. When Sayid and Jack get tangled up in their egos and hand-wringing, it's Hurley who decides, "oh hell, I'll go get the battery." And he sets off, Hurley style, to git-r-done. Not only is Charlie superfluous to the mission. So are Jack and Sayid. Despite traps, falling bridges, gunfire and bombs, Hurley stayed focused, while those three clowns were out in the jungle being all dramatic and capability joes. Hurley outfoxed the snare, which neither Jack or Sayid can say they did. Hurley crossed the bridge no probs, and skinny little Charlie broke it. And he has the best description so far for the smoke monster: a pissed-off giraffe. Beneath all the comedy and aw, shucks is a can-do guy. Jacob's insight was right. Hurley has been blessed with good luck. It's just that it doesn't go beyond him. In fact, standing next to him might not be a good idea. The good karma is for him only. On another note, I love the line by his accountant: "I'm accountant. I believe in numbers." Nice twist on the ep's theme.

my boyfriend has only seen random episodes of lost...mostly season 4.
during one episode he made a comment about how hurley never really does anything...hes there for comedic purposes...something along those lines.... and i was so offended! i told him thats what he comes across as, but really he does things that you would never expect...which is part of what makes him so great...along with the funny/sweet things he does. i believe shortly after my boyfriends comment hurley ran some others down in the dharma.....hell yeah.

I agree Charlie seems a bit..off..this episode. Especially when he doesn't believe Hurley when he tells him about the money he won. I think this is the result of writing Charlie as somewhat of a counterpoint/foil to Hurley in a number of scenarios.

I didn't find his snapping at Hurley that unexpected... Charlie realized that he almost just died because of Hurley's recklessness so he lashed out. Later, the scene beside the fire where Charlie stomps off in a huff about Hurley being worth millions was supposed to be funny. This was a good episode with lots of interesting twists and good character moments... now all the supporting characters have had their centric episodes. |

I liked when Hurley was drying his shirt over the fire, Charlie makes fun of him, and Hurley says When you find a laundermat on this island let me know...Soon enough they find the hatch with the washer and dryer and Hurley and Libby do laundry together. I think this may be when the writers really started to figure things out...or maybe I am reading too much into what was just a funny comment.
