Default 1.15 Homecoming

Random thoughts:
  1. Charlie is weak and given a choice, will make the wrong one. He has a huge need to feel like he's taking care of someone (needs to feel needed) but he isn't usually capable of even taking care of himself.
  2. LOST is being a little unrealistic. The kidnappings would have the Losties in a state of panic by now and most of them would have retreated to the caves. I was surprised the writers didn't exploit the confusion and fear angle to flesh out more characters. This would have been a hugely significant moment in real life.
  3. Claire's lack of memory seems a convenient way to avoid learning anything about the Others. On rewatch, I wonder if that means she was at the Temple. But it's more likely the result of a drug administered by Juliet.

We see in season 2 exactly where Claire was. I agree that there would have been more excitement about the kidnapping but it is a magic island that can be moved by turning a donkey wheel. Are we really going to split hairs about what is and isn't realistic?

Ok who didn't cheer the first time when Sawyer said "Uh, uh, uh, jungle boy. Not even for one second."

My thoughts/observations/things I liked in this episode:
  1. Here's one for the time-loop reset theorists (though I'm not buying it myself): Jack actually says, regarding Claire's amnesia, "It is possible that her memory reset to the crash."
  2. It must have made Charlie really buggy when Lucy says to him before his first day at work, "Dad's put the fix in" (while Charlie's sweating bullets in withdrawal).
  3. Did anybody else notice that Jack was wearing black and Locke was wearing Mr. Clean white nearly the entire episode?
  4. And finally, after all their internal disputes, it was nice to see the Locke/Jack/Sayid/Sawyer/Kate group working together as a team.

I liked that too, its fun to see the group dynamic. Ensemble shows always tend to lose that at some point.

That was sweet. Even though Sawyer is still being portrayed as an S.O.B. in this season, we are getting hints and snippets of what's underneath all the snarls and snarky lines.

Ethan was so badass and creepy. I miss the old school Others.

yeah, Ethan was a machine ... I loved that

the Island part of that ep was amazing (as usual in season 1), but I thought Charlie's flashbacks were kinda pointless (funny, unfortunate, weird and all ... but I don't see how they really contributed to Charlie's character ... at least not as powerful as The Moth did)

Locke's smile when he gets his hands on a gun ... creepy (I remember watching this the first time around I thought: this man will sooner or later kill somebody just for fun)

Considering everything we eventually learn about Locke I've always found it surprising that he is able to kill someone (Naomi for instance) without batting an eye. And yet he's still able to be so insecure that he wants to hang himself.

But like you said, he was uber creepy to me during the first season.
