- we get an amazing one-man-show of Charlie trying not to read Claire's diary (amazing how much time they spent on such tiny, relatively unimportand scenes ... and how much these scenes added to the greatness of LOST)
This had to have been the greatest scene of the episode. It cracks me up every time. I can only imagine what the crew did right after they cut. Probably burst into laughter.

Overall decent episode though.

i really didnt fine anything special (haha) in this ep.
i dont like michael...i dont hate michael....
i hope brian feels really bad....
weird that we were introduced to two characters named bryan/brian in two back to back episodes.....

i loved charlie reading claires diary. i forgot how much i loved them as a couple....and charlie talking about her with kate is also pretty adorable...they are soulmates or some other cheesy/lame thing! apperantly im a sap.

and how about that john locke guy.....every episode he gets more mysterious.

Am I the only one who kinda feels a tad sorry for Michael during this episode? I mean we see him go through a lot, from the highs of being a father like picking out the babies crib and virtually naming him, down to not being able to see him in the later years, his wife leaving him, being knocked down. On-island too, I know how I would react if some guy was giving my son a knife like that to throw around.

Granted Locke was right about the whole thing, maybe Michael was being a tad harsh on Walt at times, but he's a first time father, and he's only just getting to know his kid during all of this, the plane crash and everything. I don't have kids but I bet it's not easy, and to adapt to all this must be hard for Michael. Don't get me wrong, he's not one of my favourite characters, and I could probably think of 10-15 that I like more than him, but I think he got some unfair critisism on this one.

As for the episode, this is the first time we really find out that Walt is something different, unique even. Let's hope that the writers go back to this in Season 6, and give us some answers as to why he's different. From what we know/can gather he wasn't born on the island, and it seems Michael hasn't been there before. Surely random kids can't just be born special on LOST? There has to be some kind of communion with the island I'd imagine. Locke made up big time for the whole Walt thing when he gave Michael a hand helping him, especially after the fractured nature of the two's relationship. Fair play Locke.

Quite a better episode than I remembered first time around, Claire coming back at the end really put some emphysis (sp?) on the next episode, and also the way she came back, totally out of colour with the odd bruise and bump on her face. Thinking back I'm totally glad the writers filled in the gaps for us while she was away in Season 2.

And, only Locke and Boone know about the hatch and nobody's scared of opening it (yet).
after Walt confesses to setting the first raft on fire Michael tells him that they can stay and Walt's eyes get big and he tells Michael that they must get off the island.

This was the episode that made me really like Michael. That's why I hated how the writers turned him into a murderer in Season 2. They could have at least have shown Michael being brainwashed like Karl was. He was a good person and I don't think he would have killed Ana-Lucia and Libby in cold blood.

I agree, I mean they could have just had Michael sell out the surivors to the others but not straight up murder two women. It was an unbelievably violent turn for a non violent character, and I think it sucks for Harold Perrineau that they did that to his character.

The only way it would have worked for the character, would be if Michael lived almost to the end then made an ultimate sacrifice. But instead they gave him a weak death in season 4.

I disagree, we were seeing a desperate man, and deseperate men can do awful things. Michael did what he had to do to get his son back, later when he was off island he came to regret his decisions and saw that he couldn't live with them, and we all saw him trying and failing to kill himself because he was still needed. And with that he saw an opportunity to make things right again, to atone for his sins. So he went undercover in the boat and played his part and finally was granted his wish, to just die and forget.

Agreed. Michael still annoys me though--he's way too emotional and doesn't calm down in order to figure things out, or listen to anyone else. I'm glad he turned into pink mist in S4--easily my least favorite character.

At some point, The Others must learn about Walt and his actual, or potential, "specialness". Why else would they know to target him later in the season. Are there any hints in this episode that they might be learning things about Walt already? Perhaps Locke IS being used (by The Man in Black/Mr X) in this respect, even if he doesn't know it.

They targeted Walt for the same reason that they did the kids in the tail section of the plane, because they are kids, and kids are good, so they are always automatically in the list.
