kate was such a bitch (forgive me) in this episode....she was also a bad liar when telling jack the guns were the only thing in the case.
i loved the scenes with rose and charlie, especially when we see him crying...i loved charlie. haha i have to admit it struck me as seriously nerdy when jack was threatening sawyer... sawyer is just badass and jack just isnt (ok...he has his moments, but this isnt one of them). man boone is NOT happy to see shannon singing to sayid (i on the other hand, was very happy)....i think the scene was very lockesque. when everyone was talking about the lock, i was hoping to hear something that would connect to locke...like a pun, double meaning, etc. alas, i was dissapointed. |

At the end of Season 5, I'm at the point about Kate where I think that well, whatever, she's the scary-hysteria babe you don't want in your getaway vehicle and the actress prolly has a contract through Season 6. But at this point in the show, she still had her game left, but this is where she starts to lose it seriously.
And now after Season 5 we see that that plane has got some serious history. It goes back to when Tom and Kate were JDs, and Tom was playing with that plane outside Ames Central General Store before they dashed in to nick a lunch-box (the same lunch box, btw, they buried out in a cow field with … the plane): What's more we know now that Tom saw Jacob, whether he knew how significant that was or not. Just another piece of "Lost" minutiae that shows the writers had their game on from the start. It would be kinda cool at the very end of the show we'll see the O6 boating away from the island with Vincent watching them on the shore, and there's the little toy plane on the beach as if someone tossed it out. Then we see Jacob reach down, pick it up and drop it in his shirt pocket. Not saying that should happen, but just a nice thing to think about while we wait 'til the snow flies when Season 6 starts up. GAH!!!

not the best Kate centric, but not the worst by far
amazing cut / scene: Charlie asks Rose "Who's going to help me?" and then cut, shot of the cross under witch Mars was buried it's really amazing how Charlie and his faith, his Christ-like martyrdom and stuff are included in such subtle images (like in All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues .. Charlie depicted as Christ himself twice ... then resurrected)

Surprised that no-one (apart from Sam, damn you!
) has realised that the waterfall at the start of the episode that Kate and Sawyer take a dip in is the same one that Hurley, Kate and Jack are flashed to out of Ajira flight 316. Not that important, but a nice little nugget put in by the writers. Didn't watch this whole episode as I fell asleep during the rewatching of it last night, so I'll finish this soon and hopefully be able to write more about it, although I do seem to remember it's not one of the strongest episodes of season 1, but does set up things further down the line, as other members have commented.

Small bit I know, but I'm surprised no one, especially Sawyer and Paulo, never went back to that waterfall and checked out the other stuff under the water.
And if anyone could have cleaned up the dead bodies in that pool, it would have made another great place to live, since that is probably fresh water. Sorry, I'm just hung up on all those people living on the unprotected beach after they find out people are trying to kill them..lol.

Unless Paulo had already taken his bag, I'm surprised Sawyer didn't see it and check out what was inside. He would've been delighted to find a bag full of diamonds.
Anyway, while watching this episode, I got kinda bored and stopped paying attention to the story and focused on how beautifully the show is shot. Every scene is perfectly composed and the colors are amazing.

I think I did. But I saw most of season one out of order (long story) and didn't know anything about her past at that time.
