How do they get his notebook anyway? It must have been in his pack that he dropped in the others' camp before getting shot. Did they just walk in there and grab it? I also assumed that Hawking was going to smuggle it off the island so she could give it to him upon his graduation from Oxford, but that couldn't be if Jack has it next week.

you know, now that i think about it

other than people born on the island (the others), people brought to the island BY the island itself (desmond in the storm, the O6 on the plane)

everybody ends up dead. i mean, its kinda funny as its almost like the island is choosing who lives and dies (i'm probably reading too much into things)

anybody know a character that has survived without fitting either criteria? (other than miles, wtf?)

i assume after dan gets shot...Jack and kate come running in as Dan told then he needs to blow up the bomb...and they explain what is goin on which is how they get the book......i guess they would take Dan to the temple and "heal" him...
