Why no "only open this letter 6 hours before the incident" back to the future type letter? Hawking had about a billion ways she could have warned Daniel, not only by warning him directly, but also by using the half dozen people she had contact with very recently that would be going back to meet up with him in the past.

You could tell he died when he went still in the last seconds of the eppy. Plus, it would be really anti-climactic if they brought him back all of a sudden.

Confirmation in the trailer for next week, when Jack and Kate were talking about what Daniel wrote in his Journal and what he had known and such. Daniel, we hardly knew ye.

Good point. Maybe this fall along the lines of everyone calling Locke, "Bentham" for no good reason according to the back story we saw.

Or, perhaps the past has been altered

eloise is either

a) a douche
b) cares more about the island than her son
c) knew this was the only way to save the "space-time continuum"
d) a douche

i really don't like that they brought daniel back to the island for all of 2 hours before he got killed xD

As soon as Daniel said the variable was free will I screamed "Yes!" The slogan before the season began was "Destiny Calls." I was pretty sure at that point that the show was going to tussle with the idea of destiny vs. free will. For quite a while it seemed to be leaning towards destiny winning with "whatever happened happened." But now there is hope, despite Eloise sending Daniel to be murdered by herself.

Exit question: If the variable is free will does that imply that Desmond, who was featured in "The Constant" does not possess free will. Perhaps that's what makes him special. Just throwing that out there.

This episode was riiiiiiidiculous! Couldn't believe that happened to Dan. And just the what they are setting up plot wise is for lack of a better word epic.
